I love the princess and the pauper and this book gives me that kind of vibes. The characters grow, learn and evolve while also getting their love story. A really good book and I cannot wait for/if the cousin book.

The Heiress Swap is a novel by Maddison Michaels. Evie agrees to swap places with her cousin to go to England and be presented to society. Evie is the illegitimate companion to her extremely wealthy cousin. Alex is a Duke who is convinced Evie is looking for a title. Alex doesn’t expect to fall for Evie’s charms. The couple faces lies and betrayal before they can hope for a happily ever after.

The blurb drew me into reading this book. I love swaps! However, I felt this book was too formulaic at times. The plot stalled in the middle, and everything wrapped up too perfectly too quickly at the conclusion. That being said, the characters and premise were solid, and I enjoyed reading Alex and Evie’s overall romantic journey.

Alex and Evie were excellent characters. I empathized with Evie and her deception. I was angry with Evie’s uncle and Alex towards the end, but it all worked out well. I felt Evie should have had more support from her family. Alex was justifiably upset near the end and reacted as I would have; I could relate to Alex as a person at this time in the book, not just as a duke. Alex and Evie had a solid connection, but their passionate natures didn’t always shine as brightly as they could have.

I liked this book; I did feel there was room for improvement. I would read Evie’s cousin’s book; she intrigued me. This book held my attention, and the characters were vivid and endearing. This was a solid romance, and I would read it to get ready for the next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am not sure why I left this complimentary ARC languishing on my to be read shelf for so long. Likely because I am not the biggest fan of the secret/hidden identity trope. I am, however, a fan of Maddison Michaels and should have trusted her to do the trope well. And Michaels does.

Evie and her cousin Aimee are headed to NY for 6 weeks - Evie, the poor relation, destined to learn about how to be a secretary in her uncle's business and "Dollar Princess" (aka American heiress) Aimee destined to the exploits of the ton. Aimee talks Evie into switching places to give Aimee a chance to learn the business she longs to run and Evie a chance to visit all the museums and see all of the paleontology things she is obsessed with. Love was not on the agenda, but of course, agendas can change.

Alexander, Duke of Hargrave, dislikes all things American for what he believes are valid reasons. But Evie/Aimee changes all of that. Forced into what they decide will be a pretend engagement by scandal, the couple find themselves endangered and enthralled and Evie dreading Alex's reaction should he learn the truth of her identity.

I loved this book. Aimee and Evie are friends as well as family, and they switch places with zero bad intentions. The banter between Alex and Evie is lovely, and the relationship between Alex and his cousins is lovely. The touch of intrigue added to the story without overwhelming it, and the villain was not who I thought it might be. Evie and Alex have great chemistry and the steam is excellently steamy. A satisfying ending and I am looking forward to Aimee's story next.

5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

A story you won't wanna put down.
Maddison Michaels is a new to me author and I can’t get enough. I received this ARC and was so pleasantly surprised by how much I really loved it. When Evie agrees to switch places with her cousin from America she doesn’t realize it will change her life. When she encounters Alexander who is on a mission to expose the real her he doesn’t realize that he is about to fall and fall hard. While she keeps secrets from him they both get wrapped up in each other. He will do whatever it takes to keep her.
I am so happy to have discovered this author. What a great story to start with too. Her writing is so easy flowing and you just fall into the story. Her details and characters make you fall in love instantly and you want to be a part of their world. I highly recommend this adventure to all my historical romance loving friends. You are going to be hooked.

Having read the Bachelor Betrayal and the Bachelor Bargain, I was very happy to see another story of Maddison Michaels popping up on Netgalley.

Maddison’s historical romances are not your average romances, they tend to have a little ‘ bite’. So, the women are typically not the demure wallflowers, which was normal for that age.

No, Maddison creates firecracker women, who do daring stuff and have adventures on their own. Like Evie, who is convinced by her niece Aimee to trade places with her during their stay in London.

Of course, Evie will go on many adventures and she will meet Alexander, who is determined to unmask the ‘American princess’ .

The story flows nicely, the dialogues are funny and the twist and turns keep you glued to the pages. In all, four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

The Heiress Swap was an entertaining read though melodramatic and implausible at times. I also struggled with some of the dialogue, which was stilted at times and didn’t always flow smoothly.
Heiress Aimee Thornton-Jones thankfully made only a few brief appearances in the story, once to convince her illegitimate and impoverished cousin Yvette Jenkins, or Evie to her family and friends, to swap places with her when they travel from New York to London. Aimee came across as a frivolous, giggly teenager with not much beyond cotton wool in her head despite her stated desire to learn as much as possible about her father’s business so he would regard her favourably as his replacement when he retired.
Thankfully Evie was much more likeable and I warmed to her immediately. I loved that she was fascinated with paleontology and laughed out loud when she had her first dance with Alex, the Duke of Hargraves and asked the orchestra to play a Boston Waltz at triple the normal speed. Alex, too, was easy to like despite his grumpy demeanour. The scenes between these two often smouldered and when they weren’t doing that ther was plenty of sexual tension.

The Heiress Swap by Maddison Michaels

The Patty Duke Show or perhaps Parent Trap came to mind as I began reading the first pages of this book. My hopes were high though I knew things would NOT go well for Aimee or Evie as they each tried to play the part of the other for reasons of their own – reasons that did not make much sense to me.

After reading the first chapter or two, I found that I was not relating to the cousins situations or believing it could even happen as it did. When Alex, the duke, showed up with all of his heart hardened to women and filled with trust issues…I really did not like him and didn’t warm up to him or his reasons to cozying up to Aimee/Evie at all. So, I skipped to the end to read how it would all turn out for the couple and thought, “Really?” So read some in the middle, went back to read more from the beginning to about 30% and finally decided that it was time for me to move on to another book and leave this romance behind.

I never warmed to the cousins, Evie and Aimee, although I liked them better than Alex, the plot twists that I read were rather predictable and also unbelievable with a fairy tale feel to them, and I decided to let the couple meander their way to their happy ending without reading about how it happened in complete detail.

I am sure some will thoroughly enjoy this book although it is not one that worked for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Michaels returns with an intriguing and unique plot of false identity. As always with this talented author, the writing is flawless and the characters are well fleshed out. I love a hero who has sworn off love, because I like watching the many ways he can fall hard! Evie, the heroine, is sweet, but strong and has a temper when crossed. She can certainly hold her own with the arrogant duke and I loved her! I loved the side characters as well (the aunt is gorgeous!) and hope that Samuel and Aimee get their own stories (separately, of course!)
A really satisfying five star read!

This book was so fun! It had a plot straight out of a hallmark movie – cousins decide to trade places and romance ensues.

Evie and her cousin are complete opposites, but when her cousin convinces her to change places Evie’s life changes. She meets a duke who is gun shy because he has been lied to before by an American heiress. He doesn’t like Evie because he thinks she is her American cousin.

Even though you could see the pending conflict from the start, I still really enjoyed this book.

While I did like many parts of this book, I was definitely put off by Alex just straight up hating women lmao. He was so mistrustful because of TWO women in his life and it just seemed rather dramatic—and when I say dramatic I mean plain rude!! I liked Evie and the cousin swap moment, and I did like her and Alex’s relationship anyways, but the inclusion of a villain was so random and also pointless because it was so obvious who was responsible. I decided to round up to three stars because I want to continue with the series, which means there was enough here to keep me going. I need to know what Aimee and Harrison got up to!!

Evie Jenkins reluctantly switches places with her American Heiress cousin and goes to spend the season in London. She is to be the belle of the ball but reject all suitors who show any interest in marrying an heiress while Amy learns about running her father's business. Alexander Trenton, the Duke of Hargrave, knows a title hunter when he sees one especially when he almost married one. When his cousin believes himself in love with a beautiful American heiress, he knows it is his duty to prove to his cousin that the man doesn't matter as long as a title is on the table. He doesn't expect Amy to be intelligent, kind, and understanding, and maybe she can prove that not all American women are all the same.

Awe, I loved this one so much! I haven't read a good swapping places story since Tracy Anne Warren wrote one, and I forgot how much I enjoy this trope. Alex was cynical, and why wouldn't he be? He was definitely burned by his fiancé, but it was so fun to watch Evie get under his skin and never be what he expected an American to be. I loved that Maddison Michaels made these two characters have a common love of archeology, and it gave them something to bond over leading to friendship then love. The end was super sweet, and I do love when the hero makes a grand gesture, and it was needed since Alex was sort of a jerk during their third act break up. Overall, I am super excited to read another Michaels because this book checked off so much of what I love in romance. While I have been struggling a lot with historical romance lately, this one didn't disappoint me.

I normally don't love false identity books, but there was just something about this one that I really enjoyed. Evie switches places with her cousin Aimee for a few weeks, but the only condition is that she doesn't get herself engaged. Of course, all that goes out the window when Evie meets Alex, a duke who doesn't trust women.

I really enjoyed Evie and Alex together. I loved that they shared common interests, and yet they still had banter that was enjoyable to read. I thought the book was well written, and enjoyed the story as a whole. I liked the action and mystery as well as all the growth of the characters.

It all started with a Fake identity.
Alex and Evie start off as enemies then turn into lovers. Alex is jaded by past hurts then he started to fall in love with Evie. All Evie ever wanted to do is be able to live a life that she wanted. To be able to experience little joys and freedom. Overall, I did enjoy the story but I felt that the fake identity was held in for too long before it was revealed.

The cousin swap sure caused quite a lot for Evie to hide since she didn't think she would fall for a Duke.

This book has a lot of classic parts to it. It has the switching places trope, Alex weary of American Dollar princesses due to his ex being found with another, a fake engagement, and someone set of to scare them away from eachother.

Even though this book too a bit to get going, I really liked Evie's bold nature and Alex pushing the passion envelope. I couldn't believe Alex didn't catch on to the cousin swap.

I hope we get to hear more about the details of what Aimee was up to in a future book. Maybe she will find love.

Great enemies-to-lovers romance.

Evie is a young woman full of passion and dreams. Evie and her cousin switched places, believing that everything would be fine. From the minute she meets Alex, nothing will go as planned for Evie. Alex is an arrogant Duke with trust issues. Because of the swap, the relationship between Evie and Alex won’t be easy.
At first, Alex and Evie, the two main characters, seemed so different, but as we found they shared an interest in fossils, we also found they had much in common. These two main characters have great chemistry. I devoured the book to follow their relationships and discover where they took them.

I loved the epilogue; it was a delightful addition. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this book. I tried to get through it, but I wasn't interested in the characters. They kept repeating themselves and I didn't feel the chemistry between them.

Yvette's cousin Amiee, an American heiress, convinces Yvette to swap places when they arrive in London. Yvette is the illegitimate daughter of her uncle's brother and leads a very quiet, dutiful existence. Even though Yvette isn't comfortable becoming Amiee in London society, her passion for history, fossils and the chance to visit museums, lured her to say yes. Meet Alex, the Duke of Hargrave. His passion is paleontology. A cynic by heart, Alex doesn't trust women, especially an American Dollar Princess. Yvette never pretends to be something other than what she is and falling for Alex is the last thing she should do.
Kidnapping and threats of murder, lead to the question of who benefits from her death and then his? Flows at a steady pace with a frustrating duke, emotionally switching on again, off again and an insane plot for a dukedom.
Descriptive open bedroom door.

If you love a grumpy hero then you should definitely read this. Alex is exceptionally grumpy especially as he tries to expose Evie. Plus there is a little mystery to solve before it's all said and done.

Evie Jenkins very reluctantly agreed to switch places with her cousin, who she's been a companion to and who happens to be an American heiress. All she has to do is spend six weeks among London society and reject all marriage proposals.

When his cousin declares himself in love with the visiting American woman, Alexander Trenton, the Duke of Hargrave, is determined to prove that all the lady seeks is a title. So in order to prove it, he'll expose her through a little seduction.

What he never expected was all the chaos one little kiss would bring. Now in order to save her reputation they'll have to announce their engagement until she can return to America.

Thank you so much to the author, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

Evie and her cousin Aimee are both going to England, but with different purposes. Aimee is to take part in social functions (and maybe find a husband), and Evie will attend some training at her Uncle’s London office. Aimee wants to be a bigger part of her father’s company. She talks a reluctant Evie into an identity swap. Evie hopes to see museums and other sights while she politely refuses the attentions of potential suitors. Evie meets Alexander Trenton, Duke of Hargrave, while she is staying with his aunt who is a friend of the family. Alex, who has been hurt by a past fiancé, is suspicious of the American girl and is determined to prove she is scheming to marry a title. Now, plans don’t always work. This is a delightful story that is reminiscent of The Parent Trap. Alex and Evie may be at odds, but they are attracted. They do have a few interests in common and their chemistry is strong. What will happen when Alex finds out about the swap? He has been betrayed before. This well-written story has great characters, a bit of angst and mistrust, some twists and surprises, and a wonderful happy ending.

This was an absolutely delightful story about two people who would have unlikely met had it not been for the identity swap that caused them to cross paths and find love when and where they least expected.

Both Evie and Alex were compelling characters with unique histories. I found their connection over their shared interest in paleontology to be an endearing trait and it colored their interactions in ways that were special to only the two of them.

While a secret identity trope is not at the top of my list of favorites, I thought that Michaels did a wonderful job of allowing Evie's truly genuine and kind nature to shine when she interacted with Alex and other characters.

The pacing of this novel was perfect and these were characters I wanted to spend time with; additionally, I found myself getting into the story and telling myself, "one more chapter!".

The only aspect of the story that threw my rating off a bit (and this is not unique to this author), is the way in which solutions-which drove some of the tension of the plot-just miraculously appear all at once in the third act. I had to suspend my belief, but it did not impact my overall enjoyment of this book.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series! It looks like it will be an enemies-to-lovers/class difference romance featuring Evie's cousin, Aimee. We get a peek at a few moments in this book between Aimee and the gentleman, and if the next book is anything like Evie's story, I'm here for it!

I read and reviewed an advanced eARC of this book thanks to Entangled Publishing via NetGalley. All honest opinions are my own.
