Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read this novel and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Heiress Swap by Maddison Michaels is a story about two cousins from very different backgrounds who decide to change lives for a few weeks. Aimee is a Dollar Princess who is sent to England by her mother to find a husband, and Evie is an illegitimate daughter with little prospects in life because of this, who is also sent to England, but to learn to be a secretary at her uncle's company. Neither of the girls are happy with this plan, so they decide to do a swap. But little do they know that it is not that simple to change lives and that tiny things can alter their fate, like love.
The book is focused on Evie and Alex and their road to love. I enjoyed seeing how Evie developed her passion of archaeology throughout the book. We can also see how she blooms and gains confidence to stand up for herself. The hero of this novel, Alex, is also a beautifully written character who grows and overcomes his prejudice, although he was sometimes a little annoying. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it made me smile and fall for these characters from the beginning. I would also like to highlight Maddison’s beautiful writing and the great character development. I really hope we can read about Aimee’s adventure soon!

This was another fun, entertaining, and romantic read by Maddison Michaels! It has a great enemies-to-lovers romance, and the characters are layered, interesting, and fantastic! I also love the little bit of mystery throughout the story. It adds more suspense and tension to the plot and made for an intriguing and fun read.

Alexander dislikes Evie when he first meets her. Spurned by his ex-fiancée, who was also a wealthy American woman, he dubs Evie another American “Dollar Princess,” and when his cousin claims he is in love with Evie, Alexander sets out to prove Evie simply wants a title and doesn’t care about the man behind the title. What Alexander doesn’t know is that Evie is actually the companion and cousin to the actual heiress, and they have switched places for this trip.

Evie and Alexander have such a swoon-worthy love story. They have fabulous banter, and I love that Evie doesn’t back down from Alexander. She teases and antagonizes him, which most people won’t do since he’s a duke. She definitely gives as good as she gets, and I think Alexander finds it refreshing. Their shared love of fossils is also endearing and brings them even closer together. The scene when he starts questioning her, thinking he’s going to prove she’s lying about her knowledge of fossils, and instead, she proves she knows as much, if not more than him, is fantastic.

I always enjoy historical romances by Maddison Michaels. She has a great writing style that’s immersive, and she creates compelling and dynamic characters. Plus, the romances are always swoon-worthy. I’m hoping that there will be a spin-off of this book or that it’s the first in a series because I want to know more about Aimee and her boss. It sounds like they might have a brewing love story, and I’m eager to find out what happened between them while Evie was pretending to be Aimee. Also, Alexander’s cousin is lovely, and I’d love to read more about him too!

Thanks to Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. all thoughts are my own.

Maddison Michaels is slowly becoming an auto-buy because she just brings so much newness to the historical romance genre. The author has this ability to take the well-known tropes and must haves in the historical romance space and bring something new.

This time, she adds some flair to the usual "American Dollar Princess" and the "Bluestocking" trope. Not just by combining them (as this has been done previously), but adding a layer of uniqueness through the plot of the Duke wanting to disprove our American Bluestocking who...is Parent Trap-ing with her cousin in London so that said cousin can experience life outside of what's expected. Not only is the banter good and character dynamics solid, but as is the immersive descriptions and the way the heroine and love interest bond over a mutual interest.

I'm so excited to read the follow up to this!

FABULOUS!! Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

What an enticing and beautifully written historical romance!! The Heiress Swap has your enemies to lovers trope, secret identities, forced fake engagement and a murder conspiracy! It is filled with drama, passion, suspense, deception, tension, banter, chemistry and sizzling romance. I absolutely loved this book so much!I💙💙 If you are a fan of Lisa Kleypas or Julia Quinn you will enjoy this one too!

Reluctantly, Evie agrees to switch places with her cousin so they can each attain their own desires and dreams. How hard can it be to be Aimee her rich cousin and use an American accent? All seems to be going great until she meets the Duke of Hargrave. He is convinced that she is just after a title and the Duke is determined to prove it. Instead he discovers that they have a common interest in fossils and they both end up falling for each other. Next thing you know someone is trying to murder them. Who is behind the scheme and why are they doing it? When will Evie tell the Duke the truth? Will he forgive her for lying to him?

Overall, I was completely captivated from start to finish! This is my first read by Maddison Michaels and it will not be my last! I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book and it deserves all the stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The beautiful cover drew me to this enjoyable Victorian romance. Evie Jenkins is a poor and illegitimate cousin to Aimee an American heiress in 1890. Evie lives as a companion to Aimee and they are fast friends. Aimee parents decide to send her to visit an aunt in London for six weeks while Evie learns secretarial work at the families England offices. But Aimee’s biggest dream is to take over her father’s business interests someday and she begs Evie to swap places. Aimee goes to work and Evie gets introduced into society.

Alexander Trenton, Duke of Hargrave is sure that Evie, posing as Aimee, is looking for a title. He has no interest in marriage himself but when his cousin claims he is falling in love with Evie the Duke decides to show she is a schemer. He is surprised by her unexpected knowledge and fascination with fossils that is also an interest of his.

The books has some twists and turns. Someone is actively trying to hurt Evie or Alex, a fake engagement etc. This is a fun historical romance. Evie is a bit more candid being raised in America and she makes the first moves at times which I like. I assume the author will writes the cousins story and romance while she poses as an office worker in another book. I will look forward to that.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Swap and they did. Evie and Aime had me so amused with their little trick of trying to pull a fast one over on their family and friends. Aimee was more determined than Evie was I think. The story was an absolute treat to read. The characters are superb. Alex is my favorite one. He and Evie surly did not get along to well at first. I loved their building romance. The writer did a great job of keeping me entertained.

Yvette Jenkins, grew up poor but loved, with her aunt in Paris and then London. She grew up the illegitimate daughter to a ladies maid and her uncle's brother. When her aunt died, Uncle Thomas collected her from London and brought her to live with them in New York. Aimee Thornton-Joneses, cousin and her companion for the last six years, who Evie adored but was always trying to keep out of trouble.

Alexander Trenton, the sixth Duke of Hargrave, was raised my a hard, cruel, task making father that was more concerned with appearances than showing he cared for anyone or anything rather than his title. Having been left behind when his mother ran away and divorced the old duke. When his father allowed him to attend Eton school, he gained two friends in his cousins, Samuel Ellingsworth, the Earl of Brexton, his aunt Agatha, Ales father's sister and his other cousin from a younger brother, George Trenton, who is married to Claire.

Aunt Edith, Uncle Thomas, send Aimee to stay with the Countess of Berxton, A family friend, in hopes Aimee will find a match making Aunt Edith happy. Aunt Edith had a carriage accident and now is unable to travel so it falls to Evie to accompany Aimee to London, as Uncle Thomas has asked his London head officer to help train Evie as a Secretary under Mrs. Holbrook.

Aimee comes up with a plan to thwart her mother, gain knowledge of her father's business and allow Evie to have a bit of a holiday and explore all the museums she wants and never had the chance to. Evie declines at first then reluctantly agrees.

Alexander, Alex to family, was engaged to an American Dollar Princess Ten years ago and it has colored his view on Americans and women. Now with his cousin smitten with "Aimee", Alex is determined to prove she is just like the rest to save his cousin Sam.

Some come join the whole wind fun through museums, ballrooms, and country estate caverns as these two butt heads, antagonize, annoy and fall for each other. Such great fun until accidents and mishaps start. Who is the culprit? Why? And what was Some d's plan? What does Evie do in the end? What is Alex response and how does all that's happen effect him? Does he find what he needs and go for it?

Thus is a new author for me and I just can't say how much fun this wad to read! Such great story telling and imagery that gave the impression you are right there in the think of all the action!

A beautiful historical romance that will have you keep turning the pages. I absolutely adored the novel, loved the characters, and couldn't put it down. The story flows smoothly and has all the right ingredients; good chemistry, strong voices, deception, and drama. It's a very fulfilling read for a historical romance lover like me.
Evie and Aimee decide to switch places. Evie is back in London, pretending to be her rich cousin and enjoying a season among the wealthiest Londoners. No one would recognize her, and after a few months, she would return to America. Simple enough, right? But things start to fall apart when a Duke becomes interested in her. And not in a good way.
Alex dislikes American Heiresses who are after titled gentlemen and have no regard for anyone's feelings. When he fears that his cousin is becoming involved with the latest arrival from across the sea, he takes it into his hands to prove to him the manipulative, money-minded woman that she is. Unfortunately, his plan backfires, and now he finds himself engaged to the said woman. He is determined to uncover her secrets, but will he be able to protect his heart?
The more they spend time together, the more they fall in love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to all romance lovers.

I’ve always been a sucker for historical romance novels, ever since I used to sneak my moms as a preteen/teen. Something about the happily ever after fairytale intrigued me, even though horror/thrillers were my go to. It’s always nice to take a break in those for a happy ending. And this book was just that, provided my much needed break, quick read, and happy ending. The story started off innocently enough, two young cousins decide to switch places with each other. Both determined to never marry. One wants to be taken seriously in her fathers business, the other just wants freedom to explore caves and discover fossils. So they travel to London from the US to carry out their ruse. Evie (the illegitimate cousin taking the place of her heiress cousin) is able to attend balls and pretend to be her cousin easily enough. Until she meets the Duke. There is a minor mystery to be solved, an old family history to be dredged up, and then of course, the love story. I enjoyed reading this, taking a break from my usual haunts, and it was easy to get to know the characters. I do wish we had found out what happened with the real Amie and her mystery boss, maybe that’s a future story? I only marked this as a spoiler for that reason. My only (very, very slight) complaint with the story was when Evie (pretending to be Amie) and the Duke were alone in his carriage, she seemed far too bold in her actions for the usual virgin heroine of my past historical romance reads. She dove right in, taking the lead. Not that it’s bad, just took me by surprise a bit. She was quite forward. But all in all, it was a fast and easy read and an author I’d like to read more from.

Not on my public review but I am always a sucker for dates in these books. The book takes place in 1890, if I recall. Towards the end of the book Evie’s uncle mentions he didn’t take his brothers phone call the day before he died. I guess that stands out cause if her uncle was in New York and Evie’s father was in France, that’s a problem. Telephone patent was approved in 1876. It never mentions the girls ages, but I’d say they are 16, at least. So they were not born when the phone was patented. But that wasn’t my first response. If the brothers were across oceans from each other, the first transatlantic call wasn’t til after the 1900’s, I think? Not a big deal, just wanted to share that. I’ve posted this review on Goodreads, minus the telephone part, since it doesn’t take away from my review.

Thanks to Entangled Publishing, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this unbiased review voluntarily.

This is the first book I have read by this author and the premise seemed interesting. Evie, the cousin of an American Heiress, bears enough of a resemblance to her to masquerade as her cousin, while Aimee (the cousin) tries her hand at business.

Evie meets a Duke, who because of past experience, immediately distrusts her, making the lie even more difficult. And of course, things get complicated when they develop feelings for each other.

The tone of this novel is somewhat casual, which I am not used to in a historical romance. I didn't really get to the point when I felt connected to the characters and the plot was somewhat predictable. But, if you're in the mood for a quick historical romance fix, this might do the trick.

For me it was just 3 stars.

This was such a cute little story that gave me both Bridgerton and Disney type vibes. Evie was an interesting and fun character, strong and confident and I loved that for her. Alexander was everything you'd want in a rogue with a perfect redemption arc to tie together the sweet romance.

As soon as you see that a story involves two characters switching places you know that at some point the ruse will not go well. This was definitely the case here - every time Alex mentioned how he didn't trust American heiresses or how the women in his life let him down you knew that when he found out about who Evie really was that things would go downhill real quick. Even with the impending doom I knew was coming I loved getting to see Evie enjoy her new found independence and freedom to explore more of her interests. I loved her first encounter with Alex when he tried to quiz her and she (of course) proved her intelligence and knowledge. I did want to roll my eyes a few times when Alex was acting like he truly believed there could be a woman not interested in him. When he does finally accuse Evie of trying to trap him into marriage I wanted to remind him he was the one who sought her out on multiple occasions and brought about the events that found them engaged to one another. She would have had to have been quite the mastermind to trick him into doing all of that. Thank goodness for his aunt - she actually ends up providing much needed truth regarding both Alex and Evie's parents. In a way, it was good that Evie left England and the two were separated for a time. They both needed (although mostly Alex) needed to come to terms with some events of their past so they could truly move forward with one another. And who doesn't enjoy a reconciliation in the middle of a ballroom? I am very much looking forward to finding out what happened with Aimee during this time, obviously something big occurred between her and Harrison.

An enticing romance, I loved the pull and tug between Alex and Evie. I was drawn into the plot with Evie swapping places with her heiress cousin and Alex fighting his past betrayal and demons. Throw in some scandal and danger. They make their way to wonderful happily ever after.

This book was amazing. If you ever read "The Princess and the Pauper" by Kate Bryant this is the historical romance version of it. You know that there will be some pain and angst but in the end everything is fine. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and compelled by the side characters as well. I cannot wait to read more of this author and learn about the world she created.

Evie and her cousin are on their way for a trip to London, where she is supposed to work as a secretary while her cousin will attend balls and if her mother gets way, her find a husband.

But on their way there her cousin has the idea to switch places, Evie can pretend to be Aimee the American heiress and enjoy her time in London and visit the museums while Aimee will work as a secretary trying to understand how a company works since her dream is to take over her father's business.

The problem is that Evie is socializing with a duke who has been dubbed by an American heiress before so he takes it upon him to uncover any secret she might have.

Don't you love the "oh, she is bad for you, I will show you and then bam he falls head over heels " trope? I know I do and this was done exactly right. Our duke, Alex is like a duke must be, stern, stubborn and so honorable. He is also sure that Evie is there to catch a title even though that is last thing on her mind.

Evie just wants to enjoy her little vacation, visit the museums and see as many fossils as she can, but since fossils are also Alex's thing he is even more doubtful about her character.

When they are given the chance to spend time together he knows he must test her in order to determine her intentions, which lead to some amazing banter and tension between those two can wake up the fossils that surrounds them.

The story has steam, suspense and sweet moments that all balance each other the same way Evie balances Alex and vice versa. I loved this book and definitely recommend it!

Light beach reading. Romance was hot! Loved this quick read.

Characters, setting and story were simple and easy to follow. Could have had a bit more detail and depth, but a nice quick light read.

Recommend.

I enjoyed “The Heiress Swap” by Maddison Michaels, even if I liked other books by the author a bit more.

Set in 1890, this is the story of two cousins who switch places when traveling to England. Each cousin has a motivation for the deception, and this story tells of cousin Evie Jenkins – the poor, illegitimate relation who pretends to be her rich cousin.

I really liked how the place switching and entanglement with the Duke of Hargrave was simply the start of the story between Evie and Alexander Trenton. There is some mystery and transatlantic travel before the HEA, which is an expansion of the closed world we often see in historical romance novels set in England.

There were a few things about the book I was not crazy about – but these are my own pet peeves and so I don’t want to influence a reader with identifying them.

Overall, somehow this book didn’t hit me in the feels quite in the way I would have wanted and expected from the author. This easily could have been me and when I read this book, or perhaps I had hyped it up too much in my mind before reading it, as it had been a while since I’ve read this author and loved her “Secret, Scandals, and Spies” series and had been anticipating this story for quite some time.

I do hope we get the cousin, Aimee’s tale soon -- the rich heiress who pretends to be Evie in order to learn in the inner workings of her father’s business. The hints sprinkled throughout this first book certainly has me intrigued.

Maddison Michaels is a good storyteller, who writes engaging and entertaining novels. “The Heiress Swap” was a fun romp from New York to London, with comedic elements, intrigue, and passionate encounters. If you enjoy her other works or historical romance set in Victorian society, I would recommend this book. 3.5/5

Having enjoyed another read by this author, “The Heiress Swap was refreshing and delight historical romance that had laughable moments. Evie and Alex are fossil loving and interesting characters. Evie’s was raised poor by her aunt and uncle in the United States and gets the chance to switch places with her cousin in England and fake her way as an heiress…a once in a lifetime although she knows nothing about societal rules and norms of the ton. Then she meets Alexander Trenton, the Duke of Hargrave, tall dark and handsome but arrogant and one who believes she is only out to marry for money.

This story plot started off a bit iffy but I think the well developed characters brought all things together to make this a well-written story. I loved the banter, face-offs with one another and the tension that built up to their attraction for one another. Romance, intrigue and fun-loving enemies to lovers trope with entertaining and witty moments.

A merry switch-a-roo between cousins set Evie on life-changing adventure. Calm, polite, and ideal bride, Evie has agreed to impersonate her cousin Annie, an American heiress off to England by her mother’s request to snatch herself an English gentlemen. Unbeknownst, that Evie and Annie have their own agenda to enjoy this journey.

Alex, Duke of Hargrove, is cynical. After a horrible ending to an engagement to an American and his mother eloping with an American, he does not have high opinions of American heiresses, except that they are just marriage hunters. Determine to expose Evie as such, he engages her in socials. She surprises him. Hot and riveting debates on fossils and history, Alex finds Evie utterly fascinating.

Heiress swap is a refreshing spin of a historical romance that focuses on two nerdy fossil loving individuals with a thug thrown in,bend on separating them. But under whom’s order?

The bantering is fun to read and I love how Evie is so independent and shocking to Alex.
A quick and interesting read for this Summer for sure!

Big thank you to Entangled Publishing & NetGalley for this ARC!

This was a very sweet book overall; I thought Evie was such a fun protagonist to follow (I always love a fossil-loving heroine), and I just loved her & Alex together.

I had a little bit of a tough time with the plot. The description alone screamed "3rd act breakup! 3rd act breakup!" so I was kind of bracing myself for that throughout. That being said; once everything did start to unravel, it felt a bit rushed to me. Also (without being too spoiler-y), I didn't love that the big reveal takes place after certain.. events & confessions. It felt a little more unforgiveable to me at that point.

Aside from this, The Heiress Swap was a very sweet & fun read!
