Murder at a Cape Bookstore was a cute & cozy story that made for the perfect summertime poolside read! I’m a romance reader at heart, so this genre felt a bit out of my comfort zone at first, but I enjoyed this one and I definitely plan on picking up another cozy mystery soon.

Thank you to Kensington Books, Maddie Day, and NetGalley for providing an eARC!

I thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with the opportunity to read it sooner in exchange for an honest review.

A fun cozy mystery, this novel is the fifth book in the cozy capers mystery series and the third I have read in this series ! I was thrilled to return to Westham, Cape Cod, MA, and visit with Mac Almeida and her thriving bicycle shop business. It's a quick and easy read and the supporting characters are an interesting bunch - mainly drafted from the MCs bookclub. This book is set in early spring which is obviously not the greatest season for Cape Cod storeowners but the Chamber of Commerce director is trying to drum up business - twisting business owner’s arms so they hand out freebies and generally annoying people left and right. When he ends up dead at the bookstore - trapped under a bookshelf no less, there are suspects galore but was anyone not just annoyed but ready to kill ? Obviously … but who ?

I like the series regulars and the mystery was complex enough to be absorbing. This book provided excellent entertainment and escape which is what I love about cozy mysteries.

This was a fun mystery to follow. I had no clue who anyone was but this is my first of the series. I really liked the parrot especially the repeating of things. I had my suspicions of who the killer was and I guessed correctly. I'm excited to read more of this author's books.

I absolutely adore this series! It is multi-generational and diverse in the cast of characters showing a supportive blend of backgrounds that have formed strong friendships and bonds. The mystery is created with a depth of potential suspects with a variety of reasons to keep you guessing as the book club tries to unravel the mystery and reveal the true culprit. Interwoven throughout the mystery are the backstories, family relationships, business relationships and friendships that truly draw you to this series. The story is told through Mac's eyes, the main character and a bike shop owner in the small tourist town, but her close friends and family all play an integral part to each aspect of the storylines that converge to make one fantastic read. If you are looking for a great cozy mystery, then this is one series that should definitely be on your must-read list. I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can jump back into the lives of these characters!

Mac’s sure come a very long way from how she was in the first book. It looks like she’s learned not to obsess too much when she can’t have complete order or at least to accept help from people. Good old Belle the parrot’s still spouting off phrases she learns from conversations and continued to entertain the book club when they met at Mac’s house. I just love Grandma Reba, she’s such an awesome character and we got to meet a friend of hers who learned that anyone truly can get a bike from Mac’s Bikes and be comfortable riding it. That was a cool little side story.

Norland was the secondary character who was in the spotlight this time since he did some research on an old case he thought might have something to do with the current murder of their Chamber of Commerce director—an he’d been minding the shop when the director was killed in the bookstore. The guy had tons of secrets as did lots of other people but there’s usually only one killer, and Mac wasn’t stopping until she found her perp…or as it turned out, they found her. But Mac’s pretty darn kick butt when she needs to be and got the situation under control. I think she had some extra motivation knowing this perp was also after her pal Norland.

Food, friends and fellowship followed once everyone was okay again giving the kind of ending that’s just so fun with everyone hanging out and wrapping up the case. In light of Mac’s future plans and what she noticed about frenemy police officer Victoria, the next book should be pretty interesting!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

This was my first book by Maddie Day. I really enjoyed her storyline and characters. When an unlikable organizer of the town festival is murdered, Mac must put her detective gear on and find the murderer. Was it a local merchant or was it a disgruntled family member? Mac and her club must find the murderer before they strike again. I plan to go back and read the rest of the series. I enjoy finding out how it all began. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.

The book was the fifth one in the series and it was a cozy murder mystery. Usually, I enjoy reading cozy mysteries, but this book seemed like too cozy.
Initially, I had high hopes for Mac Almeida but I was disappointed in that case. I think that the characters were able to easily predict the murderer without much trouble. I do love it when the story cannot be guessed but I was disappointed in this one.

Murder At A Cape Bookstore is the fifth book in the A Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series by Maddie Day.

It’s March 21st in Wexham, and Spring is officially here, even though the weather is hardly like Spring. The new director of the Chamber of Commerce, Wagner Lavoie, says the outdoor Spring festival is still on even though snow is in the forecast. Lavoie is getting off to a bad start with most business owners as he is strong-arming them into providing freebies to the residents. Most residents want the festival postponed so everyone, especially the children, can enjoy the bicycle parade downtown. As the parade is finishing, Norland Gifford, former police chief, goes back in the bookstore he manages during the off-season. As he enters the store, he notices that a shelving unit has fallen over. Upon closer examination, he finds that the unit has fallen on Lavoie, and he is dead. The police will determine that he was murdered.

Mackenzie(Mac), fearing that Gifford will become a prime suspect, will begin her investigation. Mac will call upon the Cozy Caper Book Group members to help search for possible suspects. They soon find that there are many suspects to interview. There’s Kassandra, who had hopes of becoming the director. Her father, a selectman in Wexham, possibly did it to gain revenge for his daughter not becoming the director. Mac also needs to look into her bicycle mechanic’s sister, Sandy. Mac has recently hired Sandy and often disappears with no explanation, and she did so around the time that Lavoie was killed. They will also be checking those business owners who had been most vocal about handling the festival.

I love this series. The books are well-written, plotted, and descriptively written. Ms. Day does a beautiful job of describing the residents and also the community. The story moves at a good pace and was hard to put down. There were enough twists and turns that I kept guessing until the end as to who was the murderer.

The book also contains some delicious-sounding recipes.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A fun and interesting mystery, #Murder at a Cape Bookstore #NetGally is the fifth in the Cozy Chapters Book Group Mystery series by Maddie Day. This cover is as enchanting as the setting and the characters. I always enjoy spending time with Mac, Tim, and the rest---they seem real to me and I am always interested to see where life takes them. The main street vendors are pushed to get ready for a big event, the Spring Equinox, when the new director of the Chamber of Commerce tries to bully them into providing free merch as well. That really puts the businesses in a dark mood but they rally behind their new leader. Until he is found dead.
The plot is quick paced with many would be culprits and the mystery is twisted and challenging to solve. Mac is in her element! I enjoyed seeing her relationship with Tim bloom.
Thank you #NetGalley #KensingtonBooks #KensingtonCozies #MaddieDay for sending me the ARC I requested. All opinions are my own, I review books I love for friends and followers. Maddie Day books are a treat I want to share.

Well first off, I'm not big on reading a book when I haven't read the first ones in the series, but I did with "Murder at a Cape Bookstore". You can read this as a standalone, but it does mention past events from previous books and now I want to read the rest of the series. Maybe someday.

This was a 3 star rating for me.

I did enjoy the characters and the cozy mystery. The characters are well thought out and likable. The mystery aspect was good, but it was easy to figure out who did it. The author did a good job of keeping the reader interested in the story until the end.

I would recommend but if you haven't read the first 4 books in the series you might want to read them first because I'm sure there is more background on the characters. I was quite confused at some of the dialogue, and I think if I had read the previous books, it wouldn't have been so confusing.

All in all, I do recommend but suggest if you haven't read the previous books to do so.

It’s Springtime in Cape Cod and with it the annual Spring Festival. The festival is being organized and run by the new Chamber of Commerce Wagner Lavoie who is annoying and harassing store owners to do more and more. When the director ends up dead the Cozy Capers pool their skills to find the murderer.

Great novel with interesting characters and an engaging plot.

Thank you Kensington books ,NetGalley for the ARC and my new cozy read

I just reviewed Murder at a Cape Bookstore by Maddie Day. #MurderataCapeBookstore #NetGalley

Fun read! I always get a little concerned cause there are so many chapters, but the read is always quick with a zippy mystery. There was plenty of clues pointing to our culprit, but enough red herrings to keep you wondering. As always, the characters and food descriptions are great.

Murder at a Cape Bookstore is book #5 in the Cozy Capers Book Group series by Maddie Day.

I’m a fan of this series and this book is another great addition. I enjoy my visits with Mac and her family and friends, and the Belle, the parrot. Mac’s new employee is something else. There were plenty of suspects and I enjoyed the mystery. Can’t wait to try Tim’s Cheese Bread and the mushroom shallot risotto recipes.

Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

It’s March and still pretty cold in Cape Cod. The shop owners are a little concerned about the Spring activity that the new head of the Chamber of Commerce has set up. Most of the shop owners are worried that the storm will come in and rain or snow the event out. But the sun shines and the snow holds off making it a great event. That is until the head of the Chamber is found dead. It’s great to be back with Mac and her new husband Tim. I love Mac’s extended family. Read and find some new friends.

I enjoyed reading Murder at a Cape Bookstore. I enjoy following Mac’s thought process and her investigations.
A spring festival ends in murder. Several townsfolk and people from surrounding towns had reason to dislike the man who died. The journey to who was behind the murder was interesting. I suspected the murderer but didn’t believe where things were headed.
This series has a great cast of characters that you enjoy visiting each time a Cozy Capers Book Grouo mystery comes out.
I recommend picking up Murder at a Cape Bookstore. This can be read as a stand-alone but as usual I would recommend starting from the beginning (4 books ago) so that you really enjoy the characters.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Cozies for the opportunity to review the book.

Everyone loves a festival but Mac has concern’s since March weather is unpredictable to have the Spring equinox event organized by the new Chamber of Commerce director Wagner Lavoisier. Still there’s plenty to enjoy flowers shaped candies at Salty Taffy spring rolls at the Rusty Anchor and a parade of decorated bicycles. It’s a shock when Wagner is found dead in the book nook pinned underneath a toppled bookshelf. Mac and the rest of the cozy capers will have to use their sleuthing skills to bring a killer to justice. This was a very enjoyable story with fun characters with a murder to solve. I would recommend to all.

The fifth book in the Cosy Capers series. I started at book four.

There's a festival in town with a bossy, unpleasant organiser, and lots of bad feeling amongst those being organised, so of course there is a murder. Mac and her crime solving buddies in the Book Club cannot help themselves from being involved in the efforts to discover the murderer. Mac actually gets herself into serious danger - it is a good thing she is so smart.

This author writes nicely. The mystery is good, the characters mostly believable and the pace is steady. I enjoyed the setting although I was glad it was them in the snow and rain and not me. I found the information about Mac's bike shop to be very interesting. All very readable and certainly worth four stars.
