This says book 1 but I felt as though I was missing something the entire book. I think *for me* there were a few too many characters. Especially with an audiobook.

Its not everyday you have a tall sexy Sherlock Holmes with a dark past.
I was fascinated by Dr. Harrison Lane as soon as i started listening to this book.
Dr. Harrison Lane, is the Head of the Police Ritualistic Behavioural Crime unit.
This is quite different from the books ive read. I'm not sure I've read any book with a protagonist as Dr Lane. The methods he uses in his investigations gives a different perspective to the crime-solving genre.
That being said.. this book had so many characters that I found myself confused most of the times.
There were times i had no idea who I was listening to. This made it a bit confusing for me to really get into the book to enjoy it.
But i'm sure I'll read the other books in the series as I want to know more about Dr Lane and his methods.
I received a copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media through #NetGalley for an honest opinion. Thank you.

This is a great read and a brilliant start to a new series – an imaginative and absorbing police procedural that introduces a host of interesting characters including an Intriguing protagonist in Dr Harrison Lane who comes complete with a fascinating and complex back story that I’ll look forward to unravelling in future books.

The characters are really wonderfully built, they feel alive, real, tridimensional, with feelings, musings and expectations. The plot has nothing extremely twisty and flows, nevertheless it was somewhat slow at times. Unfortunately I also found that there were way too many characters to deal with it almost feels like there's no real protagonist, it seemed to me that I couldn't focus on what was being narrated because of this.
I love the narrator's voice and interpretation, very suited to the atmosphere created by the author in the book.

Broken Angels is a crime thriller/ police procedural based in London. Dr Harrison Lane is the Head of the Ritualistic Behavioural Crime unit, so when a young boy is found dead in the woods, under sinister and suspicious circumstances he is called in to aid the investigation. Lane grew up in the Arizona with his mother after she took him there to escape a cult, but moved back to the UK and now works with the Met Police.
This is ones from a series and could have benefitted from a little more recap of the main characters backstory, I would recommend starting with the previous books, so this storyline makes more sense. Generally I don’t like Satanic storylines as it’s just completely unrealistic propaganda made up in the 80’s / 90’s with no actual basis in reality, so I wasn’t that into this at the beginning to be honest, but it picked up. The character of Lane was an intriguing one and definitely someone who I think a lot of people will engage with, he was well portrayed by the narrator. I also thought the book dealt well with the subject of postnatal-depression.

This one reminded me a lot of a mix between Adam Lyndon and Alison Belsham with a touch of Eriq La Salle. (I highly recommend those authors if you like thrillers!) Really entertaining and a must read if you like police procedurals. There was a bit of telling vs. showing and some head hopping, but it didn’t bother me at all. It wasn’t enough for anything more than noticing it. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t closure for Harrison’s personal quest, but it leaves a nice setup for the next book. I’ll definitely be reading that when it comes out!
Huge thanks to Dreamscape Media, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Broken Angels by Gwyn Bennett is a chilling and addictive crime thriller that seamlessly blends procedural elements with supernatural undertones, delivering a captivating read that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Dr. Harrison Lane, the Head of the Ritualistic Behavioral Crime unit, is called to a crime scene where the lifeless body of a young boy is discovered. The gruesome murder appears to be a twisted exorcism gone wrong, leaving Harrison determined to find the killer. As he investigates, he realizes that the key to unraveling the mystery lies in his own haunting past, involving his mother's dark secrets.
Bennett masterfully develops the character of Dr. Harrison Lane, a likable protagonist with a troubled past that adds depth to his perspective on the cases he encounters. The supporting characters, including DCI Baker and the police team, are well-rounded and relatable, enhancing the overall reading experience.
The plot is expertly crafted, delivering a perfect balance of suspense and reality. The first half of the book sets the stage and introduces the perpetrator, while the second half intensifies the hunt for the killer and a missing child. This structure kept me engaged and invested in the outcome.
While the crime investigation takes center stage, Bennett skillfully weaves in glimpses of the characters' personal lives, adding emotional depth to the narrative. The struggles and vulnerabilities of the characters make them more relatable and enhance the overall authenticity of the story.
The audiobook narration by George Weightman is commendable, with his skillful delivery bringing the male characters to life. Broken Angels marks the beginning of a promising series, leaving readers eager for more. Gwyn Bennett's writing is engrossing and suspenseful, leaving no doubt that this series will become a favorite among fans of crime thrillers. With its blend of mystery, well-developed characters, and a unique setting, this book is a highly recommended read.
I received an audiobook copy of Broken Angels from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Broken Angels by Gwyn Bennett. . I loved the characters, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I am a fan of Angela Marson's books, and this reminded me of her books. I have enjoyed many of them.
I found it to be a police procedural type book with likeable characters in it, but you know you are in for a series.
So, if series are your thing, this book is for you.
Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape for an ARC of this audiobook.

Thanks NetGalley for the audio book of Broken Angels. I like the concept of this book. A man, Harrison Lane, is trained by his step father in Arizona to see things other people overlook. The scent that broken leaves make, tire tracks that are just a bit different from others, ink on fingers. This is a very useful quality to have when you are working for the Met in London. A boy is found dead after being taken. Another boy, Alex, soon follows. What Harrison uncovers leads him to an abandoned warehouse and a killer that thinks he has God on his side. Harrison is also looking for the people that killed his mother. That being said, I. Could. Not. Stand. The. Narrator!!!!!!!! He wasn’t exactly horrible. His British accent was ok. However, every time the word “been” came up, he pronounced it “bean”. Not a problem if you are British (or can do a decent accent) but he was speaking in plain, old, American English. Ugh. I found myself a bit distracted by that. The book had a good story line, the love interest is a bit to predictable in my opinion. This is the first in a series. I will probably READ, and NOT LISTEN to the next one.

I freaking loved this book! Harrison Lane is a fascinating character to follow, the mystery was interesting, yet solvable, and I loved how the past and present mingled in to create a larger story!
I have so many questions for the next book, even though the case in this one was solved! What happened in Harrison's past? What's up with Tonya (or is it Tanya?)? How does that situation get resolved? I'M SO INTRIGUED!
Definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy of the audiobook! I sped through it, and I'm already craving more!

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for my honest rating and review.
2.5/5 - rounded up
I was really excited for this book, since I typically enjoy mysteries. Based on the other reviews, I’m clearly not in the majority But I did not really like this one. I had a lot of trouble keeping my attention focused on the story. I couldn’t relate to any of the characters (and there were a lot of them!). The whole story just felt sort of flat to me.

In the woods, a small boy was found dead. Due to the circumstances of his death, the Ritualistic Behavioral Crime Unit was called in. Harrison heads up the team to find a killer. This was thrilling. The plot has a sub plot that keeps your interest piqued.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for a copy of the audiobook for an honest review.

Good book it gets your attention right away and keeps it the entire time. I liked the characters and all the little quirks that they have. I am also very curious to find out more about the murder of the mother. It is something that is brought up a lot and I want to know what happens. I'm interested in another book. The book hits on some hard topics but that is part of a crime analysis team they deal with the worst cases. Overall very easy read, great crime team, love the characters. Can't wait for another book.

"He had no fear of going to hell. He had already met the devil"
Now that's how to start book 1 of an 8 book police procedural thriller series. Broken Angels by precise detailed author Gwyn Bennett is a solid story that for lovers of this genre, like me, it's a joy to listen to narrator George Weightman dissect this ritualistic murder. We get to meet the motorcycle riding, taekwondo teaching, part Native American tracker, occult specialist Dr. Harrison Lane. He's a tall sexy Sherlock Holmes with a dark past.
A young boy is dead in the woods with an exorcism prayer scrawled across him. Before they can even begin the case another boy is missing and they are racing against the clock. There are enticing subplots, not all resolved in this book, there are full thought out characters and I am hooked on Dr. Lane. Nothing is broken in the start to this series.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for fair and honest reviews. All opinions are my own

This is the first book in a police mystery thriller series. I liked the narrator but I’m not sure he was the best choice for this story. He has an American accent but the book is set in London. I’d have preferred a British narrator. I like that the case is wrapped up by the end but there’s an underlying mystery that will bring the reader back for the next book.

Excellent storyline, well-paced, but the audio version was not a good choice for me. I was completely distracted by the narrator's American accent. Although the narrator was great, I kept forgetting where I was supposed to be in this book (mainly in London), which at times made it hard for me to stay engaged with the storyline. I would definitely recommend reading this one rather than listening to the audio version.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this thriller, I really liked the backstory that was peppered throughout for Harrison. This was a very interesting and gripping thriller.

I listened to the audiobook of this one and I liked it overall. I thought the narrator did a good job, but I’m not sure that he was the right choice. The book is set in London and most of the characters are British, but the narrator has an American accent. It was a little weird that when people talked to some of the British character they had British accents but when the story was told from their perspectives they didn’t. This is the first book in a new mystery police procedural thriller series. The main character Dr. Harrison Lane is a really interesting sleuth. Dr. Harrison Lane’s stepfather was a Native American tracker and he taught Dr. Lane everything he could. Dr. Lane is an expert in the occult so while he doesn’t work for the police directly they have hired him to consult on cases he can help with. So when someone kidnaps a small boy and leaves him dead in a cemetery looking like the occult could be involved he’s called in. I liked the mystery and found it to be a good start. Dr. Lane has some unsolved mysteries in his past which also come out to play setting the stage for a second book for sure.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Great audiobook that got right to the point. Quick and easy listen that kept me interested throughout.
