Review: Witches’ Sabbats & Esbats by Sandra Kynes

Rating: 3/5 stars

Sandra Kynes’ book, Witches’ Sabbats & Esbats, offers a comprehensive guide to the seasonal celebrations and lunar rituals in the world of witchcraft. Designed for both solitary practitioners and established covens, this book presents themes and ritual outlines for each of the witch’s eight sabbats and full moons. It is an easy-to-follow reference that can be used as written or serve as inspiration for creating personalized workings.

The book begins with a brief introduction, setting the foundation for understanding the significance of sabbats and esbats within the practice of witchcraft. Kynes does an excellent job of explaining how these seasonal and lunar events influence our lives and the natural world around us. This introductory section provides a solid grounding for beginners, making it accessible for those new to the craft.

What really sets this book apart are the detailed rituals presented for each sabbat and esbat. Kynes provides step-by-step instructions, making it easy for readers to follow along and participate in these ceremonies. The rituals are thoughtfully designed and include suggestions for tools, materials, and correspondences, which is invaluable for those who may be unfamiliar with the specifics of witchcraft.

Furthermore, the author encourages readers to personalize these rituals, offering guidance on how to adapt them to suit individual preferences and spiritual paths. This emphasis on personalization is empowering, as it allows practitioners to truly connect with the energy of the sabbats and esbats in a way that feels authentic to them.

While Witches’ Sabbats & Esbats is a valuable resource for beginners, more experienced witches might find the content somewhat basic. Although the rituals are well-crafted, they may lack the depth and complexity that seasoned practitioners seek. However, this simplicity can also be seen as an advantage for those who prefer a straightforward approach or are just starting their spiritual journey.

One aspect that deserves special mention is the aesthetically pleasing cover design. The captivating imagery draws readers in and sets the tone for what lies within the pages. It is evident that care was taken in selecting a cover that captures the essence of the book.

In conclusion, Witches’ Sabbats & Esbats by Sandra Kynes is a decent guidebook for both solitary witches and established covens. It provides a comprehensive overview of sabbats and esbats, with detailed rituals that are particularly appealing to beginners. While it may not offer much new information for experienced practitioners, it serves as a valuable reference for those seeking inspiration or looking to develop a stronger connection with the natural and lunar cycles of power.

Overall, this book is a worthwhile addition to any witch’s library, particularly for those in the early stages of their magical journey.

This particular book was informative but also confusing. It seemed like it was mostly going to cover Esbats and Sabbats, but it took entirely too long to even get to that information, which is probably the reason someone would pick up the book in the first place. This isn’t an awful book, but there are plenty others that would work just as well if not better.

This is real authentic old school Wicca! This is the way the Wiccans, Pagans, and Witches have observed/practiced the Sabbats and Esbats for decades, and decades. THE WITCHES SABBATS AND ESBATS is a refreshing re-release of the classic "A Year of Ritual by Sandra Kynes". The book is full of spells, rituals, and blessings. It teaches about symbols, the moon, circle casting, drawing quarters. It covers how to practice as a group, or alone. This book is chock full of information, and is a necessity for new witches, and those interested in learning more about the Wiccan year.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.

If you’re looking for detailed rituals for sabbaths and esbats this is probably the book for you. Unfortunately I went into this book thinking I was going to get more detailed explanations of the history of these celebrations. Information about correspondences is there but not very detailed. Overall, I found the book to be lacking.

This was a very handy book for getting inspiration for each sabbat and full moon. It's not exactly what I was expecting, but still interesting to have in my arsenal.

All the STARS! I absolutely loved this book. It was packed with so much information, things I had forgotten and learned more info about as well as new information. If you follow my review I’m very much a support of an author that supports where he gets his information or got to the information within the pages of the book, this author was very much able to hold their own when supporting their concepts and also reference why, who, what, and how’s.
Highly recommend this for anyone!

Excellent book on the holidays and spiritual days of importance for anyone who considers themselves a witch. I love how each is described in depth, making this a complete piece to look at the full year from. Loved this book and will be adding it to my bookshelf!

This is a great book on how to celebrate the wheel of the year. Every Sabbat and Esbats have rituals that are written out step by step. So if you are a novice this is a good book that gives you the basics. What's nice about this book is that there are rituals for solo practitioners and those that are in a coven. I am unsure if those practicing for a while would find this book helpful.

This book is a fabulous addition to any library where the reader wants to explore deeper relationships with and inspiration for connecting to the changing of the seasons, the rhythm of nature and the full moons in a witchy way. I follow the Wheel of the Year with celebrations and rituals — and in truth, Ostara has always been a challenging one for me, but I was excited to find an Ostara invocation that I can tweak and incorporate with enthusiasm. I’ve already put it to work ✨♥️🙏 — it reminds me of a Druid invocation I participated in at Stonehenge last Summer Solstice and it’s just one example of many contained in the pages of this book. I also appreciate for the tips for solo practitioners, with Summer Solstice coming next, I’m looking forward to doing a private ritual before celebrating with others. But the shining star for me is the inclusion of the monthly full moons in this book and ritual inspiration that follows. Thank you to Sandra for all of these beautiful ideas and blessings!
