Drake the Super-Excited, Overeager, In-Your-Face Snake is mostly about how snake doesn't have boundaries and tries to hug and bother everyone to the point where his friends get irritated with him and tell him they can't be friends anymore if he won't respect their boundaries. I like that a lot of the book was about navigating friendships and boundaries. I didn't like how Snake was portrayed at times; it often felt over the top when I think it could have been done more about how Snake doesn't realize his impact. Overall I think it would be great to read with kids who are struggling with boundaries.

A quickly-read lesson about an overbearing snake – it likes nothing better than jumping up behind people just doing their own thing, loves crashing the band session with its own ideas, and as for when it wants to give everyone a hug… This is an easily-understood portrayal of how playing it smoother, and asking for permission first, is best when it comes to friendships. And while it might just have been a lesson, it looks so sparse and simple and yet so comedically funny it can be read for the entertainment it gives, as well – the llama doing a crossword is nowhere near the most amusing image you'll get from these pages. Obviously the kind of book certain facilitators and specialists need to be aware of, and a very funny one to boot, this is probably four and a half stars as a result.

Drake the Super-Excited, Overeager, In-Your-Face Snake by Michaele Razi - 5/5
Children's Fiction - Picture Book

Drake the Super-Excited, Overeager, In-Your-Face Snake is a fun picture book that goes over the boundaries and consent of personal space. A topic that should be discussed with children at a young age so they understand, respect, and communication. Now that my children are all school age I talk to them regularly about listening to others and clearly expressing themselves when they have had enough and are in need of space.

Thank you Netgalley and Sasquatch Books for the eARC.

This book was pretty good. It is not my favorite that I have read on NetGalley, but it is a book that my child liked.

The snake was cute, as was the whole art style. It felt a little forced, but that is normal for the taget audience.

While it has a nice message about boundaries, it just wasn't fleshed out enough. The characters were forgetable and there wasn't much of a story. I wish we got to know the animals a bit more.

Drake the Super-Excited, Overeager, In- Your-Face Snake
4 Stars

I was interested in reading (book) because my son was oblivious to personal space. It was challenging teaching this concept.

Drake wants to play with other animals, but keeps trying unconventional means to get their attention. This book does a great job teaching social norms, consent, and boundaries through fun illustrations. The artist used a lovely muted color palette. These adorable illustrations had me smiling.

This book is great for those kids that walk on their own beat, and find social norms optional. I use books like this to teach children with developmental delays or behavioral health issues. I'd recommend this book to teachers, councillors or parents with children with social boundary issues or speech delays.

I don't know why the text size is tiny; I hated it. It makes it difficult to read on my digital copy. I'd have preferred the word bubble to all be white. The change in color makes the text harder to read for children with dyslexia.

Thank you, NetGalley and Little Bigfoot, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Sometimes the simple things in life give us the most enjoyment, and Drake the Super-Excited, Overeager, In-Your-Face Snake is a perfect example of this. Drake starts excited about playing with his friends and wants to give them a little cuddle, but that only scares them.

This leads to a lesson about asking for permission before hugging and the importance of boundaries.

A beautiful and funny book that my daughter and I enjoyed reading together.

I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley.

Thank you so much to Sasquatch books/ Little Big Foot and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

Drake wants to play with his friends but keeps scaring or hurting them Instead. He doesn’t stop even when they ask him too. Then he learns about consent and eventually asks to play and they accept him into their group.

I really liked that we went from Drake being way too over the top and scaring all the other friends that were just trying to quietly play, to eventually he learnt his lesson and got to be part of their group too.

This is a great book for teaching about consent we have Drake who wants to hug them, and jump out at them whenever he wants too, making them very uncomfortable. But he eventually listens, starts asking before he does anything and accepting when they may say no. It’s a great way to help guide children to understanding what boundaries are and that each person or animal has different needs, likes and boundaries. Also that not everyone wants to be touched or hugged at all.

The text was unusual done in a small speech bubble way, I would have personally loved a lot more written story rather than the bubbles of small bits of writing but it still worked enough for this type of book. Telling us enough of what was happening and progressing us on further.

The illustrations were cute and simplistic but again they were enough for the way that this story was told, we still follow it along naturally and saw as things changed. I liked looking at them on each page. I think it’s a nice little book for children to read, it has cute animals and a nice story of friendship and lessons on consent.

What a cute little book about the importance of boundaries and personal space! I work with small children as well as school aged children and a really hard concept to learn is the idea of personal space. At home, the way most kids are taught to show affection is through hugs and kisses. It gets a bit tricky when children start going to school as they can’t quite comprehend “well, I really like this person and when I love someone, I hug them at home, but I can’t do that here!” This book addresses this idea in a very fun way.
Not only does Drake the Snake enjoy hugging others, but he also likes to play pranks on them. Which for him is really fun but is not so fun for his friends! There is a lesson on how it is important to let others know how you are feeling about what they are doing. Drake the Snake’s friends let him know right away that they do not like the pranks he plays and would like him to stop. Drake originally finds this really hard because this is his way of showing his friendship and love to them! When he realizes though that they are not comfortable with it, he does his best to fix it.
I think what might be interesting to show is how kids are often encouraged to show their love through hugs and kisses at home but when it comes to being around friends and at school, that this isn’t something they can continue to do.
I want to thank Sasquatch Books for providing me with an early copy in return for my honest review!

This book was simple and cute. My three year old son giggled throughout us reading it together. The illustrations were nicely done with the coloring and forms of the animals in the story. It was short and sweet but funny and cute.

"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

Adorable book, especially for children who are not completely sure of boundaries and b)children who are very aggressive huggers. I love hugs, but my niece thinks she is a snake like Drake and squeezes really tightly.

Always up for a good bodily autonomy, consent book. This was cute. Spare on text and just about readable just looking at the illustrations. Drake likes hugsssss (snake - get it?) and his friends don't necessarily. He also likes sneaking up on them which they don't enjoy. By the end of the book, the friends are reconnected with Drake knowing it is important to ask (even if some people still say no.)

Unfortunately, I would not purchase or recommend this book. The text was annoying, and so were the speech bubbles.

This book is adorable. The snake is so cute and it's easy to understand how he learned to respect his friends space. A fun book to help kids learn boundaries.

Snakes just want to have fun!
Drake was no exception.
This was a cute children's tale about a snake whose excitement causes him to press a few boundaries (you have to ask for hugs, people) but learn to make friends along the way.

What an adorable book!
This book starts out with Drake being very excited and wanting to play with friends and giving them a big hug. Drake doesn't ask permission to give his friends hugs, and they don't feel like hugging Drake.
His friends tell him he needs to ask before doing, and that is what he does!
Drake asks if he can play with each of them and at the end, he even asks them for a hug!
Author, Michaele Razi, talked about important messages in a fun and adorable book--consent and personal space. I will definitely be reading this book to my children often! Perfect for kids of all ages.
