NIGHT WILL FIND YOU review

⭐️⭐️⭐️.25/5

🔮I was excited to listen to another audiobook narrated by the always wonderful Karissa Vacker! She’s narrated some of my fave thriller audiobooks and always does a great job! I went into this one blind without knowing anything about the plot. This one started off with such creepy/spooky vibes at the beginning but the middle sort of dragged for me.

🔮Here’s a summary of the plot:👇
Vivvy is a local legend for her “psychic abilities.” When she was a young girl, she used her gift to help save someone’s life. Now she’s being asked by the local police department to use her gift to help solve a cold case involving a kidnapped little girl. Vivvy is hesitant, but ultimately agrees to help. When a popular podcaster known for his crazy conspiracy theories finds out about Vivvy and her “abilities,” he turns her into a national media sensation. Can Vivvy help find this missing girl and stay safe amid the hoards of wild conspiracy theorists following her every move?

🔮I was intrigued by the beginning of this book because it seemed different from any other thriller I’ve ever read. I liked the psychic plot line and I don’t think it’s one I’ve seen done in any thrillers I’ve read. The beginning was exciting and had me super invested!! But the middle of the story sort of draggggged and I found myself feeling bored at times. I did enjoy the ending (even though I thought it was a smidge predictable). Having read so many thrillers, it takes a lot for one to wow me and unfortunately I just wasn’t wowed by this one. However I did enjoy this author’s writing style and will definitely check out more of her books! If you’re wanting a thriller with a more unique plot line I’d recommend checking this one out, particularly during spooky season. 🎃

🔮Thanks @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for my digital copy of this one!

Thank you so much for an early copy of this audiobook. I could not stop listening. There were so many different twists that I never could have guessed which is how I judge a great thriller. Looking forward to reading more by Julia!

Vivvy is an astrophysicist and psychic, two things are at odds with eachother. The visions she has go directly against the science she believes in. She's gets embroiled in a cold missing persons case when a boy she saved as kid, now a cop, asks for her help. A Texas conspiracy theorist podcaster gets involved as well. trying to dig things up form Vivvy's past. Is Vivvy truly a pyschic? Can she help an old friend solve the case?

Julia Heaberlin gives us a truly atmospheric thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages. The narration was also outstanding!

Believe the hype! I thought this was so good. And I’m hoping this author is already working on book 2! The writing was exceptional and the audiobook was one of the best I’ve heard this year. Karissa Vacker narrated this and she was amazing. This story sunk its claws in and would not let me go. I held on to every word and it was a great ending. I had all the feels! Fear, mystery, second guessing and romance. My heart is complete!
I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!
Thanks Macmillan Audio via NetGalley.

I had to DNF this one at around 15% - I could not get into the psychic character. Thank you very much for the audio ARC.

A big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook. I wish I could say I enjoyed it, and am eagerly awaiting the upcoming TV series based on it, but no. Night Will Find You really grated and it was a true push to finish.

I wish I'd remembered that I'm not a fan of Karissa Vacker's narration. She reads every woman like she's impatient, gritty, and trying-too-hard to be badass. I get exhausted listening to how intense her women come across. I am ALL FOR for independent, smart and direct women (being one myself), but her voice portrays these women as unlikeable and intolerant.

But honestly, all the characters in this novel are unlikeable, regardless of the narration. I couldn't find one person I could really latch onto and care about. Kind of wishing there had been a dog. I bet I would've liked the dog.

The story was roundabout with regard to the child murders/abductions and too focused on being inside psychic/astrophysicist Vivvy Bouchet's head, always on who she's battling with today. She was so overstrung, so hyped up and tense, it was impossible to get past her volatility to settle into the story.

Overall, this was not the audiobook for me. You might like it, as I can see many people have, but perhaps you should try the ebook, and pass on the audio. Either way, be prepared to meet a bunch of characters, especially the protagonist, you'd like to slap in the face.

This was a fun and fast-paced read!

I loved the layers of drama. There was familial conflict, self doubt, political idiots, and so much more.

Vivvy Bouchet has always been a little different, like her mother. Both inexplicably knew things, but Vivvy has always had a love of science. Her other talents go on the backburner while she studies stars and far away planets as an astrophysicist for a living.

However, her mother’s death has her back in her hometown and she’s asked to look the famous cold case of a missing three-year-old, Lizzie Solomon, by her friend/old crush, Mike, a police detective. Detective Jesse Sharp, lead on the case, is more than a little skeptical of Vivvy. He’s like a thorn in her side, showing up everywhere she goes while searching for the truth. What comes from Vivvy’s examination is a surprise, one that she can’t let go of even with all the negative publicity she attracts.

Sensationalist podcaster, Bubba Guns, has focused his ranty-conspiracy theorist sights on Vivvy, putting her in danger with all the nut-jobs that believe every word from the liar’s mouth. This guy was something else and I enjoyed how Vivvy handled him. Vivvy was also in danger as she closed in on the truth of Lizzie’s disappearance.

Night Will Find You was a mystery that grabbed hold of me and didn’t let go! Atmospheric and thrilling, I couldn’t stop listening! There were a few twists, a bit of romance, and a juxtaposition of science and the unexplained that was highly intriguing! I loved every minute!

As usual, Karissa Vacker’s performance was wonderful! She nailed both male and female voices, and her accents felt spot on. Her narration enhanced an already riveting story! I listened at my usual 1.5-1.75x normal speed.

2.5 stars

Night Will Find You is about Vivvy Buchey, a scientist who also seems to have a psychic gift. She is called upon by her childhood friend to help solve the case of a missing girl. Reluctantly she agrees to help with the case, and it quickly gets complicated when a local podcaster stars spreading conspiracy theories and bringing up the darker moments of Vivvy's past.

This book started out interesting, and I was engage for the first bit. But it did not keep my attention and I struggled to stay invested with the characters and the story. Some of the characters, like Bubba Guns, were so over the top and hard to take even a little bit seriously.

There was a lot going on in this story and it ended up feeling messy to me with a lot of things left unresolved. I wish that the story would have focused more on the missing person case and the evidence there rather than branching out into other directions with Bubba Guns and even Sharp (who was also not my favorite).

This one was a miss for me despite many others giving it high praise!

Night Will Find You is one of my top reads of 2023. I found myself being so unable to put this book down that I checked the physical book out of the library so I could read when I wasn't able to listen. This story has so many elements I enjoy in a story; duel timelines, twists, characters with shady pasts, etc. The narrator of this audiobook really enhances the story with her use of different voices for each character. Night Will Find You is an insanely binge-able novel about Vivvy Bouchet (a reluctant psychic) who returns home and faces her past in order to help solve a missing persons case. Vivvy must accept how her past connects to the present day and work with those that don't believe her intensions are pure. I highly recommend this novel to any book lover.

The Night Will Find You is a fantastic novel that kept my curiosity peaked throughout the entirety. Vivvy Boucher has been asked to help in a few cold cases because of her ability with spirits. Is she a phony like her mom or is Vivvy truly connected to this over realm. The complexity of the personal connections brought this story to life. I was engrossed in the book. The storyline of this novel was well thought out and perfect. My first book of Julia Haeberline and look forward to reading more!

Thank you NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for this audiobook.

I love the concept of a psychic helping the police solve murders. This is what drew me to my first ever Julia Heaberlin read. Note: I listened to the audiobook narrated by my favorite, Karissa Vacker, who delivered a spine-chilling performance and experience for all voices.

Brief synopsis: Vivvy Bouchet, daughter of a known psychic, was ten when she saved a boy’s life by making an impossible prediction. Now she’s an astrophysicist in Texas, devoted to science, but the boy she saved has become a cop who continues to believe she can see things no one else can. When he begs for help on the high-profile cold case of a kidnapped girl, Vivvy steps back into the ocean of voices that once nearly drowned her.

Heaberlin hooked me with her characters and the story, which ended up including a tangled web of a podcaster, small-town people, family relationships, and a past love. The subject of psychic ability was a nice touch.

The relationship between psychic and cop makes great dialog and is very believable. Sharp (cop) is very skeptical about Vivvy's psychic abilities, and she knows he’s hiding something from her and can’t figure out what it is. Their sparring felt true to life and connected me to them. Heaberlin will be an author I’ll keep an eye on!

Note: I am so excited to hear this story is being developed by Fox as a tv series. It's mysterious, dark, gritty and intriguing - the perfect combination for must watch tv. I just hope it stays true to Heaberlins book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for a well plotted mystery by Heaberlin that I hope will become a book series. I would love to see whats next for Vivvy!

Interesting premise but ran long and was slow in places. I loved getting to know Livvy and her ongoing battle with Bubba Guns but felt that the story dragged in areas, which made me lose interest in it. The ending was fascinating and made up for some of the slow spots but not enough to rate this higher than a 3. The epilogue felt unnecessary as did the conflict with her sister. There was just so much packed into this that didn’t seem to be needed.

Karissa Vacker, as always, was excellent as the narrator.

An absolutely instant recommendation.

Being brought into the main character, Vivvy Bouchet, was a rare treat. Absolutely fabulous characterization.
Vivvy is a top notch astrophysicist and an intuitive as well. Lead by science first and intuition we follow Vivvy unraveling both personal enigmas and a central plot of missing person, a little girl named Lizzie.

Every side character is fun and listening to the audio will have you binging this from the moment you start

NIGHT WILL FIND YOU
Julia Heaberlin

Recently, aliens, extraterrestrials, and UAPs have moved from science fiction and fantasy to nonfiction science. Have you been watching the transition?

This book strikes a chord with me and I’m betting it will with you. It’s a convergence of science, conspiracy theories, podcasters, and psychics. It’s zany, at times whimsical, and a little all over the place. I enjoyed my time with it and think you might too.

Vivvy is psychic – she gets it from her mom. But unlike her mom, she is also an astrophysicist. Which makes her more of a reluctant psychic.

When Vivvy was ten, she saved a boy’s life by making a prediction. That boy grew up to be a cop and he is now asking for her help solving the cold case of a local missing girl.

We follow along as Vivvy tries to help solve the case only to find herself on the warpath of Bubba Guns, a local conspiracy theorist and notorious podcaster.

Being psychic is a low-key dream of mine. Working alongside police on an investigation – that’s fantasy status. So, when I read the synopsis, I was fully on board.

I listened to THE NIGHT WILL FIND YOU in audiobook format and was again impressed by Karissa Vacker’s narration. I’ve listened to so many great performances by her that her voice feels like a welcome homecoming.

The writing took a bit to get used to. It felt oddly structured in the beginning. But, once I caught on to Heaberlin's rhythm, it felt like a smooth ride until the finish. The storyline meanders a bit and why focus on one when there are many more to talk about?

Beyond that, I had a great time reading THE NIGHT WILL FIND YOU and gave it four stars.
Have you read THE NIGHT WILL FIND YOU yet?

Let me know in the comments!

Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced listening copy!

Great written thriller definitely likes the twists. The development of the characters were great! A great book for the fall spooky time.

I typically spend half my time reading a thriller trying to guess who the antagonist is. The author did such a great job pointing the finger at so many possible culprits in this story that I just gave up and enjoyed the ride! I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a great job drawing me into the characters. A very engaging story with interesting subplots and multi-layered characters. This author is new to me and I will be checking out her other books. Highly recommend this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this audiobook.

"Night Will Find You" by Julia Heaberlin is a novel that left me with mixed feelings, earning a 3/5 star rating in my assessment. While the premise had the potential for an intriguing thriller, I found the writing at times to be somewhat choppy, which hindered my full engagement with the story. The narrative had moments of suspense and mystery, but it didn't consistently maintain the level of tension I was hoping for. However, I must acknowledge that Heaberlin's ability to craft complex characters and interweave their stories added depth to the plot. The novel did have its moments of intrigue, but it didn't fully deliver on its promising premise. It may still appeal to readers who enjoy psychological mysteries but be prepared for a somewhat uneven reading experience.

I loved the TV show "Psych" where a quirky psychic helped solve police crimes, so I was immediately drawn to this read. While you won't find the comedy and quirks of "Psych" in this read I nonetheless was drawn to the characters and cold case solving of Vivvy Bouchet.

Vivvy is a highly educated astrophysicist that happens to have inherited some of the other worldly perceptions and feelings her mother embraced. Having used her premonitions in the past to help an old police friend she's hung up her skills to grieve her recently deceased mother. But she's drawn back in at her friends request and this case has really piqued her interest.

From conspiracy theories to personal attacks and genetic quirks, "Night Will Find You" is an exceptional read.

A well-known psychic and a conspiracy theorist turned podcaster cross paths in this story from Julia Heaberlin.

I really enjoyed this one! I'm not typically a fan of psychic stories, but I like this author, and this was an easy read. It felt especially relevant in this political climate.... without becoming a soapbox diatribe. The characters were good, seemed realistic, and the plot moved. It did start to lose me a little in the middle, but ultimately the end was good! There wasn't anything super memorable or distinctive about it, but I would definitely read more from this author.
