A great murder mystery which had moments where I couldn't put it down and moments I just wanted it to get to the end and be done already. I enjoyed Vivvy and her journey, but didn't quite find her and Jesse's relationship to click the way it did. I just couldn't see the chemistry in their relationship. Vivvy's "psychic" abilities were cool to explore although in the end I'm not quite sure what they were. And the constant reminder of this is not how it works/this is how it happens/can't control it was a little off-putting at times. It felt like the author couldn't really decide whether Vivvy was psychic or just a good problem solver. I did like that the ending wasn't just the end but there was more to the story to close up Vivvy's personal life.

In the end it was a good read. I might recommend it, but I also think I might soon forget about it.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc.

Julia Heaberlin is always good for a unique spin on a thriller. Night Will Find You is no exception. With its psychic, scientific, and conspiracy theory elements, this book held my attention and I was drawn into the dark corners of Vivvy’s mind. There is A LOT going on this book with multiple plot points which did lose my attention slightly. Howeve r, I enjoyed and was surprised at how it all came together. Definitely keeping Heaberlin on my “‘must read” list.

Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin was an engrossing and suspenseful mystery that kept me guessing to the very end. The characters were well drawn out and it was so well plotted. It was about a twenty-eight year old Astrophysicist, Vivvy Bouchet, who had returned home for her mother’s funeral and was asked to assist with a cold case that involved the disappearance of a young girl that had occurred many years ago. Vivvy possessed psychic abilities. She could see things just by touching a personal object of the person in question. Vivvy recognized these gifts even as a young girl. After all, Vivvy had grown up with a mother who made a living as a psychic.

Vivvy had done her best to bury this part of her life after she earned her Ph.D. from Harvard. She now lived in almost complete solitude and seclusion in Big Bend’s Chihuahua Desert. When Vivvy returned home to Fort Worth, Texas, she was coaxed by her old friend, Mike, to assist him in the reopening of a cold case which involved a then three year old Lizzie Solomon, that had vanished more than ten years ago. Mike was now a cop in Fort Worth and was married to her older sister. Mike and Vivvy had a complicated relationship but Mike strongly believed in Vivvy’s psychic abilities and desperately needed her help with this case. Vivvy decided to prolong her return to the Chihuahua Desert and help Mike. Little had Vivvy anticipated the publicity nor the threats she would encounter and receive after podcaster Bubba Guns made her involvement with the cold case public. Nor had Vivvy welcomed the obvious skepticism she encountered from the handsome Jesse Sharp, another Fort Worth police officer assigned to this cold case with her. Would Vivvy be able to uncover what little Lizzie’s fate had been? Was Lizzie dead? If Lizzie was still alive where had she been all these years? Would Vivvy’s psychic abilities be an asset or a hindrance to solving this case?

I listened to the audiobook that was so well narrated by Karissa Vacker. She has become one of my favorite narrators over the years. Her performance was spectacular. She was able to instill just right amount of emotion, dread and hope into her performance. Karissa Vacker easily distinguished herself from one character to another. Night Will Find You was captivating from the very beginning and I found myself totally immersed in the story. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook of Night Will Find You and highly recommend it.

The pace is on the slow side, but it's filled with well-developed characters. I liked the authors writing style. The story is well written, there's plenty of twists, and it is a compelling read that has a haunting atmosphere. I would recommend this book.

I like this book a lot. I’ll be looking for more books by this author. It has everything I love. Psychology, thriller, supernatural as well. The astrophysicist who also has mind reading and supernatural powers. Love the narrator. She was very clear and I didn’t have to strain to listen. I like how the book was laid out. I like the plot and the ending, so I just liked everything. Thank you audiobook and publisher for providing this advanced copy of the audiobook to me.

Let me start this review by saying that I am not an astrophysicist, so any science talk went straight over my head.
I also am not particularly interested in anything to do with psychics, and yet, Night Will Find You by Julia Haeberlin had me hooked right from the start. The pacing was great, the twists were believable and for what seems like the first time in a long time, I actually liked the main character!
I listened to the audiobook in a single day and was legitimately annoyed anytime I had to pause it! The narration was superb, but then again Karissa Vacker has never let me down before.

This book had promise. I found the initial plot interesting - the search for a long missing child, a psychic astrophysicist with a personal interest in the case of the missing child, complicated sibling dynamic and simmering love story with a cop involved in the case. Lots of drama potential but it felt flat. It was confounded by another detective that could be friend or foe. It became a bit convoluted to me. Lots of loose threads as the story was told but somehow all these loose threads were neatly tied and up and resolved by the end. The ending was too tidy and everyone got their happy ending, which felt unsatisfying and deflated the the story.

The mix of science vs supernatural blends really well. Interesting plot with solid character work. Highly entertaining summer read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan audio for sending me an audiobook arc of this title.

This might be my best audiobook for 2022, it will be tough to beat this one for me. Karissa Vacker is a top voice actor for me, if you are a Julia Whelan fan then Karissa Vacker should also be on your must listen to radar.

Thank you to MacMillan audiobook for this great book. It's so good I will have to get a physical copy of the book.

Now for the book, I was so completely immersed in this audiobook and the characters and writing style, I can't even explain how impressed I am by Hearberlin's writing and how she created a nuanced, atmospheric mystery that is both character and plot driven (though more character than plot, similar perhaps to how I think about a Tana French mystery). Headerlin balances an examination of a fascinating main character (Vivvy, a new favorite) and a strong blend of her backstory, relationships with other strong secondary characters, and her present day complicated life with a compelling cold case missing child story; she adds in deft notes of a conspiracy theorist podcaster who goes after her which adds depth to the storytelling without getting in the way of the plot.

I am firmly in the "book was better" camp but I heard this is optioned for a TV show/miniseries and I would absolutely watch it as I can really see this being a strong TV show, it was that well developed and visual for me.

Overall the readability is good. The story moves well and is intriguing. I’ve never read anything else from this author and this book makes me intrigued to read the others.

There was a bit where I got confused about the characters but it is important to keep them straight so go back and re read that part if you lose track.

Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin is an atmospheric slice of psychic sleuthing topped with a dose of celestial scholarship. It’s this marriage of supernatural and scientific that makes for such an intriguing story. Vivian Bouchet has inherited her mother’s psychic abilities but is also a brilliant astrophysicist who takes leave from her research grant, looking for unseen light in the Big Bend skies of Texas to return home to care for her dying mother. While settling her mother’s affairs, she is roped into a “hot” cold-case of a missing girl and all the complexities that surround it.

While the main character has plenty of depth, there are others in the cast that lack development. Heaberlin is great at crafting the gritty characters one would expect to find in Texas, but the fulfillment of that expectation chips away at the originality of the story. As does the format of looking back at diary entries of a young Vivvy as a way of learning about her past.

However what the book lacks in originality it makes up for in strong and insightful writing. Vivvy’s musings about the celestial world really showcase Heaberlin’s craft and are quite impressive. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and was absorbed the entire time. I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Karissa Vacker who gave a brilliant performance and I would recommend this format because it adds to the depth of characters and momentum of the pacing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this smart but mystical mystery.

I loved Night Will Find You. Psychics, astrophysicists, police, cold cases and conspiracy theorists. Vivian, a local psychic's daughter, is called in by her childhood friend to help find a missing little girl that has long been assumed murdered.

There's murder, mystery, possible kidnapping, criminal investigations, star gazing, fortune telling, mediumship, long lost love, and slow burn attraction. It drew me in, wouldn't let go and will stay with me long after.

Thank you for the audio arc of Night Will Find You.

This was a great story! Kept me guessing and had enough mystery to keep me engaged. I was sad about the ending but it was very poetic. The big twist in this def got me and I was really stunned. Will recommend to others!

Night Will Find You is a mystery novel about a woman named Vivy Bouchet, an astrophysicist who has inherited from her mother the ability to communicate with ghosts. When Vivvy was a child, she saved a boy’s life with a prediction from her visions. That boy is now a cop who is convinced that she is psychic, and often brings her in to the station to look at photos and hopefully help him with his investigations. Vivvy isn’t convinced that she is psychic or that she is actually helpful, but she still ends up involved in the mystery of a young girl who has been missing for years. Vivvy believes that the girl might still be alive, so she does what she can to help, despite the media’s sudden attention and criticisms of her and her abilities.

This is the second book I’ve read by Julia Heaberlin, and every time I’m absolutely blown away by her character development. Vivvy as a character is a contradiction – she is a woman of science who believes firmly in evidence and logic and reason, and yet she is a psychic with a mother who was psychic. This made for a complex, relatable character with an interesting internal struggle that felt incredibly human. Every one of the primary characters had similar struggles, though, and this book is about their relationships with each other as much as it is about the actual mystery. Vivvy has a complicated relationship with her sister, who feels as guilty about their conflicts as she wants Vivvy to feel. Vivvy also has a complicated relationship with Mike, the cop who she saved in their childhoods. Mike is in a committed, happy marriage, and he shows many good qualities as a trustworthy man and determined cop, and yet his intimate friendship with Vivvy is often troubling. The other main actor in this book, another cop named Jesse Sharp, is moody and cautious with Vivvy and has a secret, suspicious past that Vivvy can’t help but investigate on her own time. Even the antagonist Bubba Guns is complex and interesting, if not particularly likeable. He intentionally portrays himself as paranoid and uneducated for the sake of fame and fortune, but it very quickly becomes clear that it is an act to maintain his fanbase, not a true reflection of his beliefs or his abilities.

Early on in reading this book, I was trying to describe it to my fiance as a mishmash of a bunch of different plots and conflicts, “but I’m pretty sure it’s all going to end up related somehow”. I always get a little nervous with books like this because there’s so much room to be disappointing, but in this case I was quite happy with the ending. There was indeed a connection between all the different conflicts, and they were all resolved with a believable conclusion. This added a lot to the pacing, as well – there was always something to pay attention to, even in the quieter moments of the story, and that propelled me through to the end. This is definitely a book that you can read in one setting.

In all, I’ll give Night Will Find You a 10 out of 10. This was an interesting mystery with fantastic characters, a quick pace, and a satisfying ending – I think just about any reader will enjoy it.

I loved the idea of an astrophysicist and a psychic being the same person and the clash of science and paranormal in this one! This made for an interesting psychological thriller and the audiobook was very smooth and worked well with the tone of the novel. Thank you so much to Macmillan Audio for the ALC of this one.

The premise: A scientist and reluctant psychic returns home after her mother's passing, and is drawn into a missing child investigation by a childhood sweetheart.

What is not to be hooked by?! I went into this one knowing it was either going to be cheesy and dull AF, or completely engrossing, and I'm quite happy to say it was the latter. The audiobook version flowed nicely, and the narrator did a wonderful job with the story. There were enough twists and turns that I was wowed and my interest held, while at the same time, not so many that it felt like a Spiderman meme of confusion.

I enjoyed the character building, and the flashback that helped the reader feel like they understood some of the decisions that were happening, although I'm not sure I enjoyed the sister drama/romance aspect. It felt a bit unnecessary to the story, which is why I'm going with 4 stars here instead of 5.

However, all that said - absolutely check this one out if you're lured by the premise. It's 100% worth your time.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This is a compelling story of Vivvy, an astrophysicist who has psychic abilities, her childhood friend Mike, who grew up to become a cop, and a cold case with a missing child. Jesse, the detective in charge, has little faith in psychics. Also thrown in, in a sign of the zeitgeist of our times, is a larger-than-life conspiracy theorist who never fails to gleefully stir the pot, sowing paranoia and confusion. What follows is well-narrated and masterfully plotted, with twists and turns that keep us in suspense as Vivvy tries to figure out the motives that animate the players in this convoluted story.

Karissa Vacker skillfully narrates the story, making this advance listening copy an enjoyable listen.

I listened to the audio version and the narrator is one of my favorites so I already knew it would be an entertaining listen. I loved the book and thought it was an interesting premise. I liked the author’s writing style so I looked them up to add to my TBR list only to discover I had read and enjoyed 2 others before so not only do I highly recommend this book, but the author in general!
