An Amazing, Fabulous, Incredible, Phenomenal 19th book in this series that is as wonderful as the first book was. The characters and story kept me reading late into the night. If you haven’t yet read this series I don’t know what you are waiting for. I highly recommend this Author and her books. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

When three teenagers head off for a day's fishing in Black Rock Falls they have no idea they are on their last journey. Once the bodies are discovered by a forest warden it is up to Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane to work out what happened at the devastating crime scene along with their two other deputies and visiting special agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter.

Investigating local crossbow clubs, where enthusiasts including Deputy Jake Rowley practice, provides them with some clues but discovering a link to a convicted serial killer gives the case a whole new dimension. As other bodies are discovered and clues become harder to find, no one realises how great the danger to someone very close to the investigation actually is.

Once again D K Hood has written a blinder, the case is relentless, the characteristics of the main protagonists are ever evolving and just when you think things can’t get any better, or worse, they do! I will be waiting impatiently for the next book as always.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an impressive addition to this excellent series and highly recommended.

I have read all of the Kane and Alton series, and wait patiently for the next book. This one was as good as the first 18. It keeps you guessing and holding your breath. I loved it. Great ending too.

This author has done it again. I can't believe that this is the 19th book in the Kane and Alton series, I have been with these two from the beginning. Being back in Black Rock Falls I know that I will be in for another gripping read, but her latest instalment is on another level. As usual devoured in one sitting. There is no way you can read one more page or one more chapter. It never happens !!! I have to know the truth. Brutal, chilling and quite dark. Another MUST READ from one of my favourite authors!!!!!!

This is book 19 in the Kane and Alton series but it's still as fresh as the first. We have the usual murders and the suspects are all local members of crossbow clubs. One of the suspects is found brutally murdered as the investigation progresses. As usual, the plotting and characterisation are excellent, there is suspense, drama and mystery and a surprise ending which leaves me eagerly anticipating book 20.I really enjoyed the read and would recommend the whole series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This was another intriguing case that the team had to solve. I like that you get to see multiple points of view and the mystery of these crimes, hunting people like animals, kept me reading late into the night. There is enough backstory sprinkled into the narrative that this book can be read as a stand alone but it is better enjoyed as part of the series. I like that Ms Hood doesn’t hit you over the head constantly re-capping who everyone is and how they came to connect.

I enjoy suspense that involves serial killers and with the MO closely linked to one already incarcerated the intrigue had me hooked. A solid addition to the series. I think fans of Melinda Leigh, Karen Rose and Kendra Elliot would enjoy this book/series.

Quibbles- “let’s get at it” has become so repetitive as to be cliche. Also the 2 fbi agents acting subordinate to both this (relatively)newbie sherif and her deputy is stretching the bounds of credibility. Lastly, this small town having a morgue and high tech gadgetry that seems to expand with each book is becoming quite jarring.
The big plus - The heartwarming epilogue makes me sure to want to keep going with the series. I want to learn more about Tauri for sure!
4.5 stars. Thanks to Ms Hood, the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Three teenagers are murdered in the woods by crossbow and possibly 3 killers. A clue left at the scene connects to a serial killer. The problem is he is in jail. This is a story that will grab you from the first page and never let go. It is filled with suspense and a few surprises. The book is part of a series but could easily be read as a stand alone. This is the 2nd book I have read by this author and she is going on my must read list. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Just when you think D.K.Hood can't get any better, she goes and writes possibly the best book of the series ! The hunters are out but this time their prey is human. Bearing all the hallmarks of a convicted serial killer, is there a copycat-or copycats- on the loose ? I barely drew breath as I raced through this nailbiting thriller ,hardly daring to turn the page. The storyline is superb, the writing fast paced and sharp and I defy anyone not to have tears in their eyes at the ending! Absolutely superb!

Another suspense filled and nail biting in places trip to Black Rock Falls where Jenna and the team are tracking down the latest killer, I don’t know how DK Hood manages to come up with the plots but I’m so glad that She does, this series is one of my favourites and I’m so looking forward to seeing what’s next for Jenna and crew. Five Stars as usual.

Another great instalment in this series featuring Detectives Kane and Alton. Three youths are killed by crossbow and the team must race to find out who and why.

Another trip to Serial Killer Central. Why anybody still lives in Black Rock Falls is beyond me 😅 Jenna and Dave have another brutal and dangerous case on their hands. 3 teenagers murdered in the woods, seemly by a crossbow and 3 different killers.

As always this is a high drama case, with lots of suspects and red herrings. They have the help from their FBI friends and need all the help they can get. Another thrilling and suspenseful story from DO Hood in one of my favourite series.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on June 13th, this is book 19 and the series is still going strong.

Another great read in the Kane and Alton series. Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review. Grippingly unpredictable. Be prepared to put your life on hold! Taut and tense from the first page to the closing paragraphs……loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In true fashion, D.K. Hood takes Jenna Alton and David Kane on a wild Montana ride in serial killer central. What starts out as the tragic death of three friends killed by crossbow bolts in the forest, quickly turns into a copycat serial killer. Jo and Carter with the FBI just happen to be on hand to sort through this mess with Jenna's officers, Rowley and Rio. There are so many personal dynamics in this series that makes it such a wonderful read - like visiting old friends and seeing what they are up to. It's a must read for me - and should be for you, too! And where the author left Alton and Kane - WOWZA - I cannot wait for the next book (and fingers crossed it will be soon!). Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

One again D.K.Hood has done it by weaving together story that is hard to put down when you start reading it , from the very start your hooked , and pulled into a story that is full of surprises, as well as suspense, and makes you question everything you thought you ever knew about the town and the people who live there .

I believe nature is beautiful in Black Rock Falls and I would love to meet Jenna and her team, but I am so glad I don't like to go camping or hiking because it's crazy dangerous out there.

I guess it's thrilling to visit a town where a lot of murders have taken place, but I, for one, would stay far, far away from there. I will stick to reading about them. :)

Now what can I say about this book or this series in general that I have not said before? Not a lot. The series remains amazing and each new story is a gem.

I was reading the last 30% this morning and just before I started chapter 39 I decided to make myself a cup of tea. I was so overwhelmed by emotions and sucked so deep into the story, I just forgot about it ending up with a stone cold drink. :) But it was worth it. No doubt about that.

This was one hell of a book, for sure. 5 stars.

Thank you

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review “Their Wicked Games”, the 19th(!) book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series.

This will make the 16th book in the series that I have reviewed - but I have read them all.
Each time I sit down to write a review of one of the books in the series, I have to take some time to figure out new ways to express just how good these books are, and I hope I have succeeded once again.

“Their Wicked Games” begins with a horrific killing - three teenagers on their way to go fishing are felled in a single blitz attack - the weapon of choice this time: a crossbow. As Jenna and Dave are about to embark on the investigation, a sudden attack on Sheriff Alton - when members of a gang of drug dealers try to spring one of their own from custody - gives us another glimpse into the enigma that is David Kane,

Back on track after turning over the drug case to the DEA, Jenna and Dave, with the able assistance of Shane and Emily Wolfe, and the sheriff’s deputy Jake Rowley are able to get to the scene of the killings, only to discover that they bear the hallmark of a prolific serial killer - Jimmy Two-Cents (one of the best SK handles I’ve yet to come across!), which takes the investigation into a different realm. Although the man himself is serving a life sentence, it appears that he may have acolytes in the Black Rock Falls area. (After all, this is Serial Killer Central.)

Enter Jo and Carter, who are in town at the moment. Jo’s expertise as a profiler for the FBI gives her some insight into the mind of the serial killer, and at some point she will be interested in an interview. And of course Bobby Kalo is part of the investigation.

The suspects are local crossbow enthusiasts, and Jenna and Dave must decide if any of them were involved, or know who was the perpetrator of, these killings.

As the investigation progresses, one of the suspects ends up a victim. Is this death related? The team works to find out, especially after another bizarre killing ups the ante.

On the sidelines, we do get a glimpse into just how the mastermind of these murders manages to do it from afar - and we also get to see Jo and Jenna in action as they figure out how it all went down.

Ms. Hood weaves together a number of threads as she deftly makes use of all of the characters who have come to inhabit this series: Atohi Blackhawk has come to town to request assistance in investigating some burials discovered in the forest, so our new forensic anthropologist, and possible love interest for Shane Wolfe, has her work cut out for her there; at the same time, Dave’s beloved Duke has sired a litter, and he and Jenna must decide whether Duke will accept a new household member, as the puppies are ready for their forever homes.

Shane and Emily Wolfe, of course are deep in the investigations of all the murders, and Jake Rowley is an integral part as well, although he must recuse himself from one of the suspects’ interrogations as they are friends.

The suspense is high in this one, as two of our beloved team are put into frightening situations, and the climax to the investigations is a literal cliffhanger, with more than one life on the line.

Each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone adventure (there is some back story in each), but you really should start from the beginning to get the full impact of how it all comes together.

Another five-star outing, the series just keeps getting better and better and better, and this one is a true edge-of-your-seat thriller!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

When 3 teenagers are found in the forest, killed by cross bow bolts, Sheriff Jenna Alton and deputy Dave Kane immediately begin to investigate. When one of the suspects is found dead in a brutal manner they are desperate to figure out who the culprit is and if they are connected to a prisoned serial killer.

I loved this book. Huge huge fan of this whole series. My heart was in my mouth at one point because I knew from the blurb something bad was going to happen, and as it played out I couldn’t turn the pages of my kindle quick enough. No spoilers, but the ending came out of nowhere and oh my goodness! Hoping D.K. Hood doesn’t make us waste too long for book number 20!

5 stars and a huge recommendation to read this whole series!

Three young people are killed in the forest near Black Rock Falls. All have been killed by crossbow and it becomes clear to Sheriff Jenna Alton, Deputy Dave Kane and the rest of the team that it is the work of more than one killer. There are pennies under their eyelids which gives a link to a serial killer, James Earl Stafford, but he is already incarcerated. As another murder takes place the team continue to try and bring their number of suspects down.

Another great read in the Kane and Alton series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Kane and Alton are at it again. This time a grisly murder that seems like the work of a serial killer who is in prison. Mystery and intrigue keep this story moving quickly. I like the protagonists and enjoy this series. This talented author has written a cannot put down novel again. Red herrings kept me guessing. Secrets and lies…the characters are realistic. Although this story is fiction, it reads like nonfiction at times. Even though the mystery is the central figure in these novels, the story of Kane and Alton keep it going. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the author and the publisher.
