This is another fine book that gives you look at what it takes for some individuals to make the team, and some end up being the 53rd man on an NFL active roster. You always hear about the superstars, but rarely do you hear about these players. Some of these players may even spend time on the practice squad just waiting for the chance. While there are a few players discussed in this book the main focus is on three, Matthew Slater, Geremy Davis and Austin Carr. Anytime you can read a book that gives you a look behind the curtain it has to be a pretty good read. I had one issue with this book in its religious angle as I am not religious. But looking at the authors background and the group he is tied it should not be a surprise with angle of the story but i will tell it is only a part of the book. If you are a NFL fan give it a read.

People often forget about the players that aren't on the field every Sunday, but are fighting for a spot on the team every week. 53rd Man captures the hard work and dedication that these men put in day after day, never knowing what the next week might hold. It's extremely difficult to feel like you are disposable or easily replaceable, so it's both a physical and a mental battle. One player had a breakout game and then overslept his alarm and was cut! You know that wouldn't happen to Patrick Mahomes. Elements of faith are shared by these men.
