The plot here isn't especially deep. We can guess from the beginning what the protagonist is likely to realize, though there are some strong moments where he is confronted by a tourist's tendency to other and exoticize a local culture. The real strength here is in the illustrations. The streets of Taiwan are beautifully and lovingly rendered with remarkable detail.

2 things.

I am not generally someone who reads a lot of graphic novels.

I work in a high school library and graphic novels are THE books to read for so many kids. I definitely do want to read them more so I can better help those kiddos find they WANT to read not just a book to check out because it is part of a grade.

With those things in mind I enjoyed this book! The pictures were done so well. This story is definitely something I can talk about with the kiddos. I mean Paul lost his phone? And was locked out? True nightmare for most high school kids. This book shows there is more out there! Explore! Meet new people! Have fun! Put the phone away!

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read and review.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Mark Crilley and the publisher of the book for the eARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Paul heads to Taiwan to visit his brother Theo for two weeks. Paul is not interested in Taiwan at all and spends most of his time on his phone and eating McDonalds. When Paul rushes to the electronic store to get the new latest game, he ends up lost in Taiwan. With no GPS and no friends what is he going to do?

"Lost in Taiwan" is a fantastic adventure and a good reminder to put down the electronics and to get out and explore!

Paul is stuck with his brother in Taiwan for two weeks, he has no interests in this trip but when a trip to the electronic store causes Paul to get lost he soon finds himself exploring and making new friends as he tries to find his way back to his brother’s apartment. Filled with adventure, culture, friendship, and so much more this was a delightful read. It truly speaks to the way we can just get lost and have the most magical experiences if we only open ourselves up to exploring the area around us and getting to know more people. It was a delightful read and I would definitely recommend it.
