Some parts of this book were truly unbelievable and I couldn’t believe that they were in the book to start with. It was however enjoyable and had some twists and turns in it to keep you turning the pages,!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was an all around good read that I was not able to guess the ending to. Ria and Livvy (though in the past) were both likable characters while the others were not.
This was a twisty thriller with a lot of gaslighting. Though there were some parts that were a bit unbelievable it was a good read.

Our heroine Ria cannot come to terms with the death of her friend Livvy. Her death was swept under the rug. Why? She couldn't cope with her job, so she got paid leave. She flew to Seville. After 5 months, she came back. She works at Cardinal Media. A new roommate appeared in her rented flat. She is in shock. Ria had no idea that she no longer lived alone. Additionally, it turns out that she works in the same company as her. Who is Amanda really? Find out by reading Gemma Rogers' The Flatmate. Someone wants Ria to go crazy. Why? This heroine receives strange information from a deceased friend. How is it possible? This thriller didn't grab me at first. But the further it got, the better it got. I didn't want to stop reading. Amazing twists took place. I literally had goosebumps while reading. I liked the ending. Hooray for the author. I would love to read other Gemma Rogers books. Ps. Be careful who you let into your home. Be careful what you drink at parties. Are you sure you can trust your own friends? The author touched on important topics in her book. Among others: drugs, trust and revenge. Ps. 2 I am delighted with the cover of this book. It caught my eye. Congratulations to its creator.

This is a fantastic, fast paced thriller. The beginning sucks you in with Livvy’s death and keeps your attention throughout. The best thing about this book is that the author didn’t try to make you look way just for it to be someone else. It’s exactly who you think it is, but the mystery is the why. There’s also the other mystery as to who was behind Livvy’s death, and I would have never figured it out! I bet that you won’t be able to figure it out either. I also enjoyed that the author made it more realistic. Ria does some poking around of her own to try to figure things out, but she doesn’t 100% figure it out. This is unlike other books who have the main character figure everything out with their sleuthing. This is a must read for thriller lovers.

Wow this book was one hell of a crazy ride, I was totally hooked from the very beginning. The twists made you constantly question the narrative and characters motives. If you love a dark thriller then this is perfect. I still haven't got my breath back from that crazy ending
5 Star must read

How well do you know those you live with?

This was very chilling and haunting to read. Written from the first person of view, Ria attempts to move on after the suspicious death of her best friend.

It deals with heavy issues such as grief, mental health breakdown, drug abuse and stalking. It also shows that actions have consequences and to be nice as much as possible.

I enjoyed it even though it wasn’t that hard to figure out who the villain was. I loved the office setting and all the shenanigans between the colleagues.

The characterisation was spot on. I felt so sorry for Ria but was glad she got the answers she wanted and able to move on.

If you enjoy chilling psychological thrillers then you will enjoy it.

I think this is probably the first book that I have read by this author. But it definitely won't be my last. As this is a good one and if all others are as good as this then they all promise to be a treat.

This novel consists of a Prologue, 51 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

The book is set in Crawley a little place in Sussex in England. So the setting felt quite close to home so it was easy to visualise it all.

The book is written in first person Livvie and Rita. Both of which are great characters and they book draw you into the story.

Sandra is scared after she sees a car pulling into her drive at 3 am in the morning. She phones her daughter Lorraine explains that she is in danger. But Lorraine just thinks her mum is drunk or having a mad moment because she doesn't believe her. But a niggling feeling in the pit of her tummy makes her drive over to her mum's house. However when she arrives her mother is nowhere to be found. It is here that she starts believing what her mother has been telling her and calls the police to let them know something fishy is going on.

There are a few different timelines to keep on track of and a few protagonists to keep on track of too. But all written in a way that makes it easy to read and keep up with.

theres also lots of twist and turns in this book to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend

The Flatmate is a fast-paced and addictive read which grabs your attention from the first page and keeps a hold off you until the very last.

It has some really sinister undertones that add to the complex plot and make it a read that has lots of depth to it.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Flatmate by Gemma Rogers.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Gemma Rogers, Boldwood, Book & Tonic and Rachel's Random Book Tours .

Publication date 22nd June 2023

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell'. I am a HUGE fan of these three amazing authors so am looking forward to seeing if it lives up to this statement. I admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Boldwood/ Book & Tonic. I have yet to read a book published by Boldwood/ Book & Tonic that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book.

This novel consists of a Prologue, 51 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Crawley, Sussex, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited and holidayed in Sussex on many occasions including this year and next year again so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonists are Livvie and Rita. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Absolutely loved this fast paced, gritty and unputdownable psychological thriller filled with emotions and secrets!!!

This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all making your heart pound and you constantly second guessing.

A huge success by Diane!!! This may be the first book I have read by this fantastic author but it most certainly wil not be my last and I've already added all the rest of her books to my Amazon wish list. This book had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!! Every time I said one more chapter it ended on a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was going on!!! This kept on happened over and over until before I knew it I had devoured the whole book in one sitting!! If you are going to read this then clear your day because it is truly unputdownable. I started this this morning and finished it at approx 2pm, reading it in one sitting. This is one of those fascinating books that will have you questioning the characters and yourself throughout!!! You have no idea who to believe and if any other of them can be trusted!!! Sandra Leivesley is petrified after seeing a car pulling into her drive at 3am. She phones her daughter Lorraine telling Lorraine that she is in danger. Lorraine doesn't know what to do and isn't even sure if her mother is drunk because what she told Lorraine can't be true as Lorraine doesn't have a brother? Does she? Lorraine sorts her children out and then goes to visit her mum to find she isn't there. She calls the police but they aren't taking her seriously. This story is very cleverly written with multiple timelines and multiple protagonists giving the reader plenty of background information and insight to make up their own minds about what is going on without giving too much away. Where is Sandra? Is Lorraine and her family safe? Does she have a brother or did she misunderstand her mum? If you want the answers to these questions and many more then you'll just have to grab your copy of this superb page turner today!!!It is ram packed with twists, turns and surprises you'll never see coming. I definitely didn't and I have read hundreds of crime and psychological books so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Diane!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you managed it in this successful, chilling and page turning psychological thriller!!! Grab your copy and jump on the rollercoaster ride of secrets, family, suspense, chills, twists, thrills, mystery and everything you could ask for in an epic page turner!!! Diane's fantastic and evocative writing skills ensures you are sucked into the lives of the characters feeling your heart pounding and the hair on your arms raise. This book is rammed with suspense and tension and will keep you biting your nails, on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding while your flipping the pages because you just cant stop. I loved the fantastic ending that left me wanting to pick up more of Diane's books and get stuck straight in.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture

This may be the first book I have read by this very talented author but it most certainly won't be the last and I cannot wait to get stuck into more of her previous and future books!!!

The authors evocative writing skills brings each of the characters to life and leaves you feeling that you are standing next to them as their story unfolds and lives start to tumble around them. Each of the characters were realistic, well rounded and strong characters which makes it a realistic read. All the characters were strong and realistic as well as hiding their own secrets. I was completely invested in each and every one of them. Although many were flawed as well as unlikeable this made them all the more realistic!!! It is rare for me to become so invested in unlikeable characters but the storyline was so addictive i just could not put it down!!!! There were flaws, secrets and so much more you have no idea who to trust and what the truth really is!!! Diane makes you question each and every one of the characters throughout!!! I don't want to risk saying more about how I felt about the characters as I don't want to give anything away to future readers but I will say that I was annoyed, angry, upset, disappointed at the different ones for many different reasons!! Regardless of whether you love them or hate them they each played their parts perfectly!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first chapter of Gemma's 'The Day Before' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!!

Overall an addictive and gripping emotional rollercoaster of secrets, family, suspense, tension and everything you could want in a gripping thriller!!

The Flatmate starts with the chilling account of Ria’s best friend Livvy’s tragic death - an event that led to Ria taking a sabbatical from work. Upon her return she discovers Livvy’s replacement is now also her flatmate, and while everyone around her seems enamoured with this newcomer, Ria knows something isn’t right.

What follows is several months of mysterious notes and calls showing up for Ria - signed from her now-dead best friend.

This book was fast paced, full of tension, and gripping from the start; the gaslighting and ensuing paranoia were both infuriating and addictive to read! With several characters seemingly hiding secrets, I found myself constantly questioning their motives and trying to figure out who was lying and why.

There were a couple of moments of ‘wait, what?’ where I had to go back and reread a few pages to make sure I understood, but overall this was a good read.

Thank you @rachelsrandomresources and @bookandtonic for my copy of The Flatmate 🙏🏻

I went into this blind and was expecting something along the lines of Jodie Foster's Single White Female, What I got was something way better!

Having been away on sabbatical for five months following the loss of her best friend, Ria returns to work, finding Livvy’s position has been filled and this new colleague is to become her new flatmate too.

What could possibly go wrong?

This was sooooo good, don't start reading it if you have other plans for the day, because once you start, you won't want to stop! Trust me, I know.

The plot was addictive, the characters credible and it's as creepy as 🤐!

Do you believe in the afterlife being able to make contact? Or is there more to your new flatmate than meets the eye?

The Flatmate is the first book I have read by Gemma Rogers, but I do love a good psychological thriller.

I found it to be well-written with plenty of suspense to keep you reading until the end.

I definitely recommend you read this if you get a chance.

This was my first read of a Gemma Rogers book. I have to say it creeped me out in the best/worst way. It freaked me out so badly that I just could not put it down!

The main character takes a leave of absence from her job after the death or her best friend and co-worker, who she is certain someone from her company drugged. She returns to discover that she has a roommate (a new hire at the company). Almost instantly she gets a creepy vibe from the woman and then strange and totally, totally creepy things start happening. She knows Amanda is behind it all, but blaming her gets her nowhere but in hot water with her boss.

I read this in one day. I was that caught up in it. Loved it!

Thanks to Boldwood and NetGalley for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

Ria has returned to work after a 5-month break. Her ex-roommate is dead but things aren’t right.
Now there is a new roommate and Ria’s gut is telling her the same thing. Ria must find out who her new flatmate really is.

This is a novel full of twists that I could not put down, giving the atmosphere of tension I had to find out what was really going on.

This is a really quick read and great to be added to any thriller lovers' TBR list.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC…in which I am to provide an honest review.

4.5 stars! This thriller started off a little iffy…where the main female character (Ria) acted on her emotions and she was dismissed by colleagues/so-called friends. However, the plot took a turn and things quickly progressed. The characters in the book were well written and enjoyed the POV snippets of the deceased best friend (Livvy). The last few chapters had me hooked as I raced to finish the book. Would definitely recommend as an exciting read.

A great read full of twists and turns.
Ria’s life is upside down due to the death off her best friend Livvy , everything Ria holds dear is changing and she is finding it hard to cope.
This book is gripping and a little bit eerie it moves at a fair pace and the writing is easy to read.
If you love a psychological thriller this is a must read!
Highly recommended a rollercoaster of a read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

WoW.......What a brilliant book - The Flatmate by Gemma Rogers was!
As usual I was hooked within the very first few pages I couldn't read the pages quick enough to find out what happens next.......WoW this is a roller coaster ride and one that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
When Ria returns back at work after the death of her best friend, she only finds that her new colleague at work, is also her new flatmate Amanda. Amanda seems really nice and very friendly, But there's nice and friendly than can deceiving! Behind it all there is another side to Amanda and Rita is about to find out!!!

This book was so good and this has to be on your to read list, especially a great read for your holidays. The characters were all great and fit in well within this book.

I highly recommend Bad girls. It was a 5 star read!

She's not who she says she is...

Another addictive tale woven by Gemma Rogers that I devoured in one sitting. It's a fast paced guessing game of cat and mouse as the net closes in and we're left sifting through theories and suspects.

Ria has just returned from a five month sabbatical after the sudden and tragic death of her best friend and colleague. The toxicology report shows ketamine in her system but Ria knows Livvy - she doesn't do drugs. Ria believes someone spiked her drink and she can't let it go despite the death having been ruled as accidental. Everyone is moving on...but Ria can't. Hence the sabbatical at her boss' request.

Five months later she returns from France, low on funds and needing to get back to work. Tired from her journey she cannot wait to crawl into bed once she gets home. But as she unlocks the door to her flat, she hears voices. And to her shock discovers a stranger in her living room! With her ex!

Unbeknownst to Ria, Amanda has not only been hired as Livvy's replacement at the firm but is also Ria's new flatmate in her company-subsidised flat. It seems Amanda has made herself at home in amongst her things, alongside her ex and even in her job having taken over Ria's clients. And of course everyone at work loves Amanda. She charms the clients who adore her and she flirts and banters with everyone. But she doesn't fool Ria. There is something off about her though she is unsure exactly what. And her surname - Dowd - where has she seen it before?

And then strange things start to happen. Phone calls with Livvy's voice on the other end, packages and photos all targeting Ria. And with each new "gift" sending Ria into a downward spiral as she turns on Amanda, accusing her of being behind everything. But Amanda is all wide-eyed innocence. And Ria finds herself on a final warning after one too many outbursts at work. Is she in danger of losing her job as well as her best friend, her clients and her flat? And if it isn't Amanda, then who is doing this? And why?

THE FLATMATE is a page-turner for sure that will keep you glued until the vert end. I enjoyed the drama, the tension and the creepy vibes. All smoke and mirrors and a whole lot of fun.

I would like to thank #GemmaRogers, #Netgalley, #BoldwoodBooks and #RachelsRandomResources for an ARC of #TheFlatmate in exchange for an honest review.

Another great Gemma Rogers book! She is amazing and never disappoints. This was well told and huge on the creep factor! Really fun writing style and fantastic characters. I was hooked from page one. Loved it.
Thank you Gemma Rogers, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book

Gemma Rogers excels once again - Ive yet to read a book from this author that I'd rate any lower than 5 star, and this latest book by no means bucks this trend!

This grippy tale is mostly told through the perspective of Ria, a young exec, who finds herself utterly derailed (both personally and professionally), when best friend and colleague, Lizzy, dies in a drug related accident. Ria suspects her colleagues of spiking Lizzy with drugs and is highly encouraged to take long term leave. When circumstances force Ria back to work, she discovers she has a new flatmate - Amanda, to whom Ria takes an instant dislike. Is Ria's paranoia justified, or is she just paranoid?! All is revealed in this gripping psychological thriller!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
