I never felt like it was enough scripture. More commentary than scripture but a good starting point. Take the commentary/leassons with a grain of salt or course

This devotional stands the test of time and is considered a classic to Christian believers. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this, and it offered great insight for Christian living from a great Christian writer.

I have been reading this classic book for over 30 years. In that time, I have acquired several editions. This edition is different in that it has a dictionary that helps with some of the more difficult terms. It has been placed at the beginning so that you see it right away. Great for personal use as well as an excellent gift idea.

This book is a classic daily Bible study and devotion book for Christians. I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s hearing about this book and its author; my father (a United Methodist pastor) had a copy in his study and in our home. He frequently mentioned insights from it to family as well as in his sermons. I will not finish the reading for several months yet. I read several days' lessons each day until I got caught up for the year. I intend to finish the year reading one entry per day as the book is designed to be used. I am finding it very inspirational and insightful. I have already read several new insights, even as a past-middle-age life-long Christian.

I received this book 30 years ago or so and honestly was just not ready for the depth or importance of Chambers’ words. I picked it back up about 15 years ago and was mesmerized. With more maturity and life experience under my belt I was ready to dive in. I was rightly convicted and encouraged and marked pages, took notes, read and reread passages for over a year of study. So I was excited to see an updated version that might make another reading somewhat easier to understand and apply to my life. This version has done just that. I personally don’t mind the format of the daily readings as sometimes it’s just enough information to sit with until the next day. So many good nuggets and wisdom in these pages. I encourage everyone to read and study over it.

Received the original language devotional as a teenager and it has been by far one of the most impactful devotionals I have ever read.

The publication of a modern English version excites me and makes me happy to know that many more will be able to better understand and enjoy the work of Oswald Chambers.

I look forward to enjoying this modern English version for a long time to come as well as it is not as hard of a read!

I didn't realize this was basically an entry a day for a year. It's well done, with simple, spiritual lessons broken down to make it easy to focus on spiritual goals for the day.
The language is beautiful and I personally found lessons that I needed to hear. To me, it didn't feel judgemental. As it states in the book, the goal isn't a feeling but a real spiritual connection with Jesus.

This book is along the lines of something by A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon, or Andrew Murray. There is a reverent, serious tone, and it will challenge many of the popular notions of what it means to be a Christian. While it is a useful and powerful devotional, there are times when the tone is a bit too stern and lacking a bit in joy. Nevertheless, well worth reading!

I remember reading the original My Utmost for His Highest when gifted a copy back in my college days. I remember enjoying it. I've tried to pick it up again a few times, but always found the language a bit clunky. So, when I saw this "Modern Classic Edition," I decided to give it a go again, and I was pleasantly surpsied to find that this new edition is the classic devotional with a more modern feel, easily understandable, and ever so full of those nuggest of truth. Oswald Chambers for the next generation! Very pleased. Highly recommend this one. Thanks, NetGalley and Our Daily Bread for this ARC.

This is top-tier the best daily devotional I've ever read. I have recommended this to so many of my friends. Chambers chooses the best verses/readings to go along with the daily thoughts.

I personally come from the viewpoint of a Reformed Baptist. I've seen others who hold the same Biblical viewpoint as I do recommend this book, and I was excited to look through it. This seems solid. There isn't any sugar-coating, nor should there be. This was very biblically encouraging and thought-provoking.

My Utmost For His Highest is a classic devotional. A literary classic must stand the test of time and appeal to a broad range of people. Oswald Chambers’ era of ministry was a few years after the turn of the 20th century. He died during WWI, yet his inspirational teachings lived on due greatly in part to his bride’s resolute devotion to transcribing his sermons!
I’m young and still love Utmost. I read it every year and get more nuggets of gold of wisdom each year.

This modern version edition is updated in several ways: a more modern Bible translation instead of the King James Version originally referenced, and a glossary of Oswald’s quotes. I like both revisions as both are helpful. The quotes, especially are a benefit to Christians who are not familiar with antiquated sayings or old fashioned religious concepts.

What is missing in this revised version is the Subject Index. This is a minor note. Concerning the format , however, I was disappointed that each days thought is not dated so as to be a devotional. The content is there, but in the printed format, it is indicated by the date: January 1-December 31. Again, a minor deletion from the original format. But, for a devotional, it is helpful having dates that assist in keeping the reader current and on tract! Note: the ARC I am reviewing it is digital format. The print version may be formatted as the 365 day devotional).

It is of great benefit to have Utmost delivered in the digital format! I can certainly forgo the printed date indicating the next daily reading by using a bookmark! It is convenient to have the digital format as it is easily accessible! Highly recommended for believers in faith who want to deepen their spiritual understanding, Oswald Chambers is deep and powerful, yet comprehendible!

My Utmost for His Highest: Modern Classic Language Hardcover by Oswald Chambers is an updated version of the Christian classic. I loved the classic version when I first read it two decades ago. I was wary of way a modern version would look like. I was completely delighted with this version. The language has been updated without sacrificing any of the deep meaning in the daily devotions. I highly recommend this book to believers of many ages. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I was more than a little sceptical when I first saw this book because I read My Utmost for His Highest daily. I’m thrilled this updated edition remains true to the original, preserving both Chambers’ voice and message. I’d almost think I was reading the original until I compare the two side by side. Yet, this edition is so much easier to read and understand!

The author’s preface explains the careful examining and research undertaken in creating this modern classic edition, and points out errors in the original that have been corrected. A glossary of terms is also included to allow the reader an easier understanding of Chambers’ language and theology.
