* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
This was my first audiobook arc so I was excited and a little unsure of how to review it. I actually think the only redeeming quality about this book is the narrator. I thought she did a great job with a book that I just really did not like.
I found Kat to be completely unlikeable and for the first quarter of the book just beyond delusional. She sees an attractive man on a bus and then makes up a name, entire backstory, and fake childhood stories for him. I would have been more okay with it if she didn’t say that he’s so wonderful because he must be a prince and he’s riding public transportation to understand the people better or something??? Like what?? Finally when she does meet him, she’s extremely disappointed because he’s a schoolteacher from the US and his name is Rory, not Alexander. She’s just really rude to him during the bus ride and when they meet at the cafe. She calls him plain and simple and is just so condescending about everything. Rory just seemed like a sweet, nerdy guy who loves his hometown and she disliked everything about him. She doesn’t want to be his friend at all and then eventually somehow falls in love with him. Honestly he just deserves so much better.
The only reason this book isn’t 1 star is because I felt that she did redeem herself a little in the end. But nothing would make the comments she thought and said, and her attitude right by any means, so I would not recommend this book.

I really wanted to like this book because it has so many things that I love but I have to admit it was not my favorite. The one thing I did not like was the main character. I wanted to like her, but she felt way too out there. Everyone (or at least I like to think everyone) has fantasized about a crush and potential conversations but this character went way too far with the idea of her crush. Which I know might seem like a little thing but I think that made her seem mentally unstable instead of just quirky. Maybe it was just because so much of the beginning of the book where you are supposed to learn about the character was painful to get through. That being said Rory and Kat are a cute couple. Their friendship and the way they bonded was adorable. I love the dynamic. Friends to lovers is not my favorite trope but the things that kept them from realizing their feelings made sense made me not mind this trope.
Overall, a sweet read but the characters read as though they are dreamy teenagers verse adults. I would recommend this book to anyone who is an American dreaming of love found in London. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the free ALC in exchange for honest review. I had such high hopes for this bool the narration was great but the FMC drove me wild and at the 20% part nearly DNF. Sometimes what you want and need at first are different then become the same.
2.5/5

This one wasn't for me.Shallow b*tch to love interest is not my trope.
If you like the "thinks she is better than him to love him" trope then you might like this one. If you blanket think that men are the problem then this one might be for you. I'm not saying men aren't trash, I'm saying that in this written in detail description of how it went down and what happened after is not something that, in my opinion, deserved what she tried to do to him. Was he slimy? Yeah, a little. The rest is spoilery but toward the bottom there is more detail about the situation I'm referring to.
26% - Kat is effing annoying. She seems like every American woman stereotype rolled into one really annoying character. First of all, she's freaking delusional and makes up some wild story about a man on a bus. Then when that man isn't what she made up in her brain she is rude to him. HELLO he didn't do anything wrong, you selfish brat. The self hating American thing is a serious turn off. Are people really like this? I don't know people who are actually like this.
"I refuse to settle for a mediocre relationship or for a mediocre career and I'm usually proud of myself for this. It means I know my worth and potential but today I wonder if it just makes me a juvenile fool..." THE ANSWER IS YES.
30% - I'm all for screwing the boss/client but seriously, if she isn't even attracted to him and she honestly says it's just to get ahead and what harm? Are you freaking kidding me? God, she's so effing stupid. She stopped it far too late. He is a pig but she's an idiot.
31% - OMFG. How in Jesus name do we go from not going out with the team to going out with the team and acting just as gross as them? You can't just tell yourself you know it's wrong but justify it at the same time.
37% - Oh so now she wants to come around to Rory but still trash him in her own mind. I hate her so much. And now it's the HR ladies fault that you didn't say no and didn't stop him and didn't pull away.
Then there is the client bar scene. She got drunk on purpose. She sat next to him. He put his hand on her knee and started rubbing her leg. Then he progresses to running his fingers over her panties. All the while she internally told herself she didn't hate it, she said she wouldn't mind doing it to get ahead. She said she should stop him but didn't actually want to. Then when she got a phone call from a guy she doesn't even like she started to worry about what people would think about if she went through with it. Then she stood up and left. He didn't snatch her back down. He didn't try to detain her in any way. Then besides coyly suggesting they go out again soon he doesn't push anything. IF she had liked him and all of these things happened and then progressed, nothing would be said. It would be perfectly fine and perfectly normal but since she thought in her head, without any outward dislike, he is supposed to be a mind reader?
"...but maybe the only way you can be anti-feminist is if you force a certain path upon a woman or judge her on how you think she should."
A few times toward the end I really thought she was "getting it" and she was maturing and growing and taking responsibility for her actions. I don't really think she did though.

Kat moved to London from Michigan for a dream job. She frequently worked from home and while looking outside, develops a crush on the guy getting on the bus. She starts watching out for him, until she decides to meet him. Rory is a boy next door.
This book was too slow burn for me. I listened to the audiobook and found the narrator not to my liking either.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for a copy for an honest review.

I liked the narration but the story overall felt very cheesy. The main characters weren't likable and made it really hard to connect with the story.

Awesome story! Amazing narration and main characters! Story had a good flow and was easy to follow. Shout out to Netgalley and publishing for allowing me to listen and review this book!
4 STARS!

Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for the audio ARC. I was overly annoyed with the man character and the immaturity of her. In addition to that, I felt it was making fun of how British people spoke and was really unnecessary to the story. Do not recommend.
