Thank you to Random House, Heather Fawcett, and NetGalley for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a great continuation from the last. It picks up a little bit after the events of the previous book and starts in Cambridge. I enjoyed how the story jumped right into action and adventure. As always Emily and Wendell are a prefect team and I loved see that in this book. There were some new characters added into this book some I loved and some were just okay but I understand the reasoning for all of them.

I liked the way Emily and Wendell’s relationship was portrayed in this. It wasn’t the main focus at all times but was definitely the undertone which I appreciated. I love the banter between the two of them and especially love all of Wendell’s declarations of love. He is one of my favorite characters and I just adore everything he says.

I did think that after the initial action the book was a little slow paced. I also felt that the format was a little too similar to the previous book.

Overall, I really enjoyed being back with these characters and in this world. I thought this was a great sequel that had action and adventure, while sprinkling in romance and friendships. I loved Emily’s cleverness and strength in the last book and felt this book was no different. There were some fun nods to the last book that I enjoyed seeing and I loved the change of setting. I am excited to continue this series and and can’t wait to see what is next in store.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc. I haven’t been requesting much because I’ve been in a reading slump. Once I got the email about this, I knew I had to try.

This was the first book I’ve read in 4 months. I loved it. It was just as good as the first. I loved the characters still and the development between them. The atmosphere was lovely and sweeps you in. I cannot wait to actually own a physical copy.!

An intrepid professor must uncover faerie secrets in the delightful and heart-warming second instalment of the Sunday Times bestselling Emily Wilde series.

Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore, and has catalogued many secrets of the Hidden Folk in her encyclopaedia with her infuriatingly charming fellow scholar, Wendell Bambleby, by her side.

But Bambleby is more than just a brilliant and unbearably handsome scholar. He's an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother, in search of a door back to his realm.

By lucky happenstance, Emily's new project, a map of the realms of faerie, will take them on an adventure to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambleby's realm, and the key to freeing him from his family's dark plans.

But with new friendships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors, and of her own heart.

This was a much-needed continuation of Emily Wilde's story. It has just as much wit, humor, charm, and even more adventure! It was everything I craved after Encyclopaedia of Faeries. I loved how the story flowed easily from book one to book two. We get new characters, new faerie creatures, and a new cozy cottage. I loved getting to see Emily and Wendell's relationship! I laughed out loud many times from Wendell alone. For anyone who loved the first book, this will be an easy second love! I am planning on buying my copy when it comes out!

The story continues with Emily, a professor of dryadology, and her scientifically inclined perspective on events as written in her private journal.
The irony of the academic study of faeries as a form of anthropology makes for an interesting background to this world. The overall plot line and adventure is equally as unique! But what truly keeps everything moving along is the relationship between Emily and Wendell. Their distinctly opposite personalities combined with the sarcasm and banter define this book! 🥰 They truly are adorable with their peculiar courtship blending beautifully into the Edwardian timeline. And now that things are moving in a more specific direction I’d love to see a little more depth to their relationship in book 3! 😉 (Please let there be another!)

Thank you Random House Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC!

Absolutely amazing. If you loved book one you will love book two even more.
The growth both Emily and Wendell showed was fantastic. I love books where the characters actually learn from situations and mistakes. It makes them feel all the more real.
I was really sucked into this one and could hardly put it down. All of the new lore and maps of areas and descriptions of creatures was fantastic enough on its own and then you add in the characters and the plot and you get a book that's easily five stars. I wish I could give it more.

I like to think of myself as a fairly seasoned reviewer, but when a book is this good it's hard to come up with words and organize them in a way that adequately conveys how and why. It just *IS SO GOOD* and can't that be enough? It might be for some people, but for those who need more I will try to live up to Professor Wilde's example and document accordingly.

If you're worried that Otherlands can't possibly live up to the Encyclopaedia, fear not! The second installment brings all the same quirk, adventure, gore, and coziness that the first perfected. Here we head to the Alps, still appropriately and gorgeously atmospheric for the hijinks that our heroine gets herself into. But it's not just a #2 on a series list. Second books in trilogies/short series can often feel like shallow placeholders, but Otherlands stands on its own merits while setting up what I'm sure will be an epic third book. Otherlands takes everything left dangling tantalizingly in the first book and weaves it as beautifully as one of Wendell's garments.

Okay, I feel I'm getting a little purple prose-y and ridiculous at this point. *IT'S SO GOOD, Y'ALL!*

What I love most about Otherlands is the character development. It would be easy for the author and reader to get distracted from that in favor of all those faerie things, but none of the characters end up exactly the same as when we first met them. The secondary characters could have been simple plot devices and served adequately, but we see them learn and challenge themselves and the MCs honestly. And the MCs! Ugh, I just love Emily and Wendell so much. Wendell, by virtue of being a faerie king, remains fairly enigmatic (other than being obsessed with his creature comforts), but that's what makes him so interesting. And Emily--every chapter she learns new facets of her strength, intellect, and capacity for connection. It's kind of amazing to think how a book filled with magical monsters of folklore can hone in on the humanity of it all.

Friends, make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and be prepared to lose many hours of your life lost in the Otherlands. It's a good thing, promise.

5/5 ⭐️
First, the level of excitement I exuded when I received the email approving my request for an arc of this book was astronomical. I am absolutely obsessed with the first book, it immediately become one of my all time favorite reads. But then I went back to read Heather Fawcett’s other books, she became an Insta-buy author for me.
This sequel was amazing! I devoured it. It brought me so much joy. There were even moments where I was tearing up because of how cute Emily and Wendell were being.
Now, this book felt very similar, and very different from the first. I loved the first for its slower, cozy fantasy vibes. The majority of the first book felt fairly calm as we got this very academic retelling of her field study. Because of that, the first book was more about her work and introducing us to this version of faeries and her relationship with the locals. Her relationship with Wendell was threaded throughout the whole book, but felt more secondary. That is not the case in the sequel. We definitely got more attention on Emily and Wendell’s relationship, his marriage proposal, and their search for his realm. This time, it felt slightly less cozy, like the stakes were higher and they were on the run, cause they literally were.
Overall, I loved this book equally as the first one. But for different reasons. I love this representation of faeries, making it feel more like how they used to be told and less of what is popular today. Although with Wendell, he does tie us a little with what’s popular in books today. And Wendell! I love this man more than I did before, and I did not think that was possible. So many swoon-worthy moments. Their relationship and dynamic was reminding me of Jude and Cardan’s from The Cruel Prince.
I could probably talk for days about this series, but if you’ve reached the end of this review, I hope it convinced you to read it, because it’s definitely my favorite read of the year. And I sooooooooo need a book 3. I need more of Emily and Wendell and this world!
Thank you to NetGalley & Random House Publishing for providing an advance reader copy of this audiobook for my honest review.

A satisfying second story of Emily and Wendell with new characters and adventures. I enjoy these two and the world created. I look forward to reading their next adventure.

Just as soft, fluffy, and filled with magic and adventure as its predecessor. Absolutely delightful.

If you loved Encyclopaedia of Fairies, you'll love Map of the Otherlands. Emily and Wendell are just as adorable together. The story is just as charming and engaging. The fairy lore just as detailed and interesting. I honestly can't remember ever reading a better second book in a series.

Absolutely adored this continuation of the first book! Ate this book up in 3 days! The writing is superb, the adventure is lovely and the banter is fatastic! Loved being back in the thick of it with Emily and Wendell! Will be purchasing when it comes out, as I am in love. Hoping that there is another book, as I don't want this to end!

Thank you Heather, Del Ray and Netgalley for the e-carc of this book, it was so worth the read :)

Thank you to Netgalley, Heather Fawcett, and the publisher for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands once again follows Emily and Wendell, this time as they search for a door to Wendell's realm. This time however, they are accompanied by a few more individuals, whom I absolutely loved. While the story itself follows the same format as the last one, this book's plot feels different. This story does not feel as easy so to speak for Emily and Wendell as they are constantly faced with difficulties.

What I have realized is that while I enjoy the Emily Wilde series and will read the rest of the series as it is published, I am not sure they will ever be highly rated for me. I think that is because I am someone who prefers a story with a lot of character development and/or a plot that is character driven. However, this plot as well as the plot of the first book is more mission focused. While I do enjoy this on many levels and enjoy reading the book, it takes me significantly longer to get through. The story is good, however it is slow to develop and as such it takes me awhile to get into it.

I love Emily and Wendell so dang much, Emily is such a strong female character, to be honest she gives me Jane from disneys Tarzan vibes, she is who I picture in my head as Emily. I smiled so much reading this book and didn’t want it to end.

This was one of my anticipated reads of the year, and it did not disappoint!

Wendell was just as charming as ever, Emily was just as focused on her work as before, and the addition of her niece and boss made this story such a joy to read.

We learn more about the faeries, and the overall story of Wendell's family and his fight to get his throne back.

Full of laughs, love, and unforgettable characters, this second book in the series will satisfy you but also leave you craving for more!!

Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands was a fun continuation from the first book. It follows Emily, Wendell, and some others as they explore the Alps trying to find a lost door.

I really enjoyed this second book in the series. I thought the quicker pace of the storyline was better than the first. There were more folk introduced and the characters were on non-stop adventures. I continue to love the interactions between Emily and Wendell.

Thank you to Net Galley, the publishers, and the author for granting me an ARC. This book is expected to come out in January 2024.

I did enjoy the first book a just a little more, but this was still so much fun. I loved being back with Emily and Wendell. The swoon and giggles!! Some new characters, and some old friends made appearances. I will definitely reread when the physical releases…Pretty positive that we’re getting a book 3 and I cannot wait!!-thank you to netgalley and del ray for an e-arc

WOW! I was interested in this series because of the Far aspect and had me under its spell from the start! This second book in the series did the same. This may very well be the best book of 2024, and I say this knowing this is being released halfway through the first month of the year!

Get yourself the first book and you’ll be ready to binge on both and find yourself waiting for the next book with bated breath, just like me.

I am so excited to get to read this book so early!!! I am crazy about the first Emily Wilde and have been eagerly awaiting the sequel!

I’m happy to report that Map of the Otherlands is magical, hilarious, and exciting. Wendell & Emily are back and their dynamic is fantastic - they are adorable together, practically a comedy duo.

I love that Wendell’s true identity isn’t in question anymore. We get to see him for who he is right from the start, with his fae-ness greatly expanded upon. (His status as a massive clean freak is hilariously unchanged.) I thought the way his magic manifests was really interesting; it’s powerful, fascinating and inventive. I’m impressed with Heather Fawcett’s creativity in these scenes.

‘Map’ does a great job of setting up the plot and diving right in. Events immediately begin to unfold that put Emily and Wendell’s careers in danger. From there, they embark on an Alpine adventure; snowcapped mountains and meadows are swapped in for the cozy Scandinavian forests of the previous book but the cottage-core ambiance remains. It will make a perfect winter read with its January release!

The story was captivating and I really enjoyed getting to see the relationship between Emily and Wendell evolve. Their connection is my favorite thing about the book. (Even little Poe makes a reappearance! I adore him!) This can probably be read as a standalone but I wouldn’t recommend it. You’re going to be out of the loop on several things that aren’t explained as this picks up where EW1 left off and keeps on trucking.

My only nitpicks are 1) that it was a bit slow going at times. And I’m not sure if it was the book or if it was me. I think this would be much more fun to indulge in this read in the winter and it’s currently 90° out so it may have been a mismatch for my reading mood. 2) The small twist that comes at around 90% (something Emily admits to) didn’t really work for me. I had a hard time buying it. But it’s a small thing.

The last 10% was especially enjoyable and I loved the ending. All in all, I thought this was a very solid and extremely enjoyable installment in the Emily Wilde universe. I could read 10 more.

(Will post more about this on my platforms closer to the release date.)
