The story starts at the end of the Great War in heaven with Lucifer being thrown to hell and his angels being turned into the Kraylen and scattered across the world. The credara, the key to unlocking hell, is hidden on earth. A thousand years later, we meet Agean. His is a monk of the Holy Order of God that has studied history and trained to fight against the rising of the Kraylen.

Agean can’t remember anything from his past and is haunted by nightmares. He is the Sitcian, the one that has the power to stop the Kraylen. He also learns about the credara and his own past. He joins with others that have been trained to stop Lucifer from being released from hell. But he is torn between doing what is expected from him and killing those that slaughtered his family.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the imagery and the religious references. My heart goes out to Agean. He is bored, so exhausted from the continual nightmare, and then bend on revenge. He goes through so much yet rises above. I loved the ending which is open for another couple books.

This is a great story that will draw you in. It is one that you don’t want to miss.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
