This is an easy to use drawing book for kids or adults. It features a variety of simple, cute things to draw like a taco, a cactus and lots of kids and animals. I actually find the kawaii style kind of annoying— all the features are in one line up high so the eyes, nose and mouth are all in a line and then cheeks are underneath them. I honestly would draw all these things without the weird faces (a colorful cupcake or cactus can be whimsical without a face and a fox can be cute without its mouth between its eyes!) but I realize I’m being annoying and that’s the whole point of the book. 🙂

All in all, it’s an easy to use, fun book.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

What a cute book!

I sat with my 7 year old twins and we all had a lovely few hours drawing. The instructions were easy to follow and it was great having some alternative sketch ideas at the end of each of the drawings.

The beginning chapters were useful to give an introduction to Kawaii and to learn the basics such as the different materials that are recommended and about proportions. The children weren’t that interested in this section and just wanted to draw the cute pictures!

I found that this book had much more variety of things to draw than other similar books and included a whole section on drawing kawaii style people which a lot similar books don’t have.

We had a great time using this book, thanks to NetGalley and Quarto publishing group for the ARC.

This is a very cute book with easy instructions and many step-by-step illustrations for animals, food articles, objects and people.
After spending a 2-hour train journey practicing, I feel psyched to look for other examples on the internet and thinking of practical uses for my new skill!

I really liked this! The style is so cute and the alternative poses or drawings really help in bringing new ideas and ways to draw each different character. I would have loved a section of tips on what brushes or settings are recommended for such clean lines but apart from that this book explained and showed each step easily.

A great guide to drawing cute, kawaii illustrations. I am yet to attempt to draw these but the diagrams were very helpful and I was able to understand what I need to do

What a cute drawing book! I’m an avid fan of Quarto drawing books. I have many from this company and often gift them to friends who just want to doodle for relaxation. I know each artist creating a book has something unique and personal to share with beginner (and advanced) artists to improve their skills.

This book is no exception. Draw Kawaii Style shares Ilaria’s tips and tricks on how to draw. The front portion of the book talks about Kawaii style and proportions. It then breaks down human and animal characters and different options for them along with objects. This section is the star of the book.

Once into the tutorials and meat, I found that there were a great variety of animals, people, and objects to draw. The alpaca, kimono girl, and popcorn stick out to me as my favorite.

Since I have a lot of these types a books, I’d say where this is lacking is the actual directions and inconsistency in how to draw things. The alternative poses and suggestions can be extremely tricky with no steps on how to do them. I’m thinking especially the witch.

Where this says it’s beginners that’s where I feel like a beginner could get hung up and frustrated. I wish there were just overall better directions for the user. Even a simple section in the front talking about basic shapes used in the tutorials would help. However, that doesn’t completely take away from the fun of the book.

Overall, this is a great beginner’s guide to drawing in the Kawaii style. It will definitely be one I pull out in my collection and one I buy as gifts for people. The characters are sweet and cute and the choices are a fun mix.

This is a great guide for any artistry level! Ideal for newbies and seasoned artists alike. I found myself intrigued by this book because I have been wanting to play around with different art styles and mediums and this is a fantastic start! The style is precious and the guides are extremely clean cut and well thought out. Thank you to NetGalley for this arc!

OMG so cute!
The visual step by step tutorials are cool but the written advice is precious too
I mean, the essence of kawaii drawing? "Aligning the eyes and mouth on the same baseline"!! This is so clearly true once you've read it, but I honestly could have never guessed it by myself
I recommend to anyone loving doodling away, from age 2 to 92!

Really simple guides to creating Kawaii characters and creatures - I'm not saying it's turned me into a perfect artist as miracles don't really happen, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I was able to draw! This would be easy for most ages to follow, and a great introduction to the drawing style.

I think that was cute and adorable and easy to read, and I definitely recommend to people are trying to get more into drawing and learn the basics of a very easy art style before they develop into their own style. I also liked there was a section on developing your own style, which most books don’t include, but it’s very essentials. Everyone knowing that there is a correct way of doing things that everyone can find their own way. most books don’t include but it’s very essential to everyone, knowing that there isn’t a correct way of doing things that everyone can find their own way. I did actually enjoy this book and I will be buying for a couple of friends of mine, but I think we run enjoy it.

A book on how to draw Kawaii style. I wish there had been more detailed steps for each drawing. I liked the variety of things to draw, but each page only had four steps and some of them jumped a lot. There also were no descriptions on what to do, just visuals. I think it would have been better if there had been more guidance.
