The Flowers of Provence
4 Stars

The Flowers of Provence is a gorgeous photography book. The sample ARC is small, it only contains 26 pages. I found the photos stunning, but I hesitate to rate this book higher with so little of the book seen. I found myself smiling along with Beck's childhood re-telling. My love for flowers also began with my grandma. Gardening has always been my haven, and I passed that love of nature to my children.

Overall, I enjoyed this book; it's very inspiring. The artist in me is ready to watercolor colorful florals. Thank you, NetGalley and Simon Element, for the advance review sample for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Flowers of Provence is a stunning photography book reflecting Jamie Beck's relationship with flowers during the time she has spent in France. Unlike her first book, An American in Provence, this one has very little writing; a lengthy introduction is followed by a tutorial on preserving flowers and tips for cutting and preserving flowers at home. If you're looking for a photography book, the instructions are an added bonus. If you're looking more for information on flowers found in Provence, this could be found wanting. Either way you still come out ahead because Jamie's photographs are moving, beautiful, and I am so happy to have this lovely collection in book form. My favorites are, as always, her self portraits.

I was given an advanced sample via NetGalley but also the copy I purchased myself came early, allowing me to post my full review before release day. This will be out on Tuesday, October 24th 2023.

The sample only contains 26 pages, so it is hard to give the book a true review and rating, but the photography is phenomenal. I want to purchase the book to see the rest of it and read more about flower pressing techniques.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon Element for the ARC.

Lovely pictures without captions, of flowers, arrangements, and the countryside. The pictures are beautiful and romantic. A lengthy prose section talks about preserving flowers.
