I was a little confused at first but when I got into the story and things started falling into place, what a ride! It's like finding yourself at the starting line of a Formula race when you started off on a Sunday drive. The pacing ramps up and the tension just continues to build. This is a solid page turner.
Holy moly, I seriously love this book! It was thrilling from start to finish, and there was so much that I never saw coming. I am a sucker for a twisty thriller that keeps me on my toes, and this was it! I feel like so many plot lines Are easily figured out, but nothing in this book was like that. The author crafted it in a masterful way, especially considering it was a sequel. She tied everything up at the end in a neat way, but still left some to the imagination. The characters are absolutely phenomenally done. Amazing book, can’t wait to read more from her!
I just finished Two Dead Wives by Adele Parks and here are my thoughts.
When a wife is murdered, isn’t it nearly always the husband? What happens when there are two husbands?
Having two lives and two identities didn’t do Kylie any favors in the end when she is kidnapped and the police are now looking for a body. The case has gripped the nation and the whole affair won’t end for either man.
DCI Clements is on the case and she knows that the dark side of humanity can make you a person do some unspeakable things.
Stacie Jones is recovering from a serious illness, being nursed back to health by her retired GP father. Can their lives remain reclusive?
How are these families all linked and how much danger are all they all in?
I didn’t love this book. I don’t mean it was a bad read but it was really a slog in places. I don’t think it needed to be this long and some of the POVs were lengthy and there wasn’t much balance. It is a sequel to another book which answers the one question I had about why Kylie would lead a double life and I hated that I didn't know that before I started this one because they don’t answer that in this read.
I also felt the book was a little on the predictable side and all the excellence was in the last ⅓ of the book. The writing was good, it just felt like a lot of padding to a book that really didn’t need it. There was some real magic in here and some real waste of paper real estate.
It was hard to care about any of the characters except the Oli who I did invest my time in. I don’t know if it's because it is a sequel and you do need to read book 1 or whether it just wasn’t for me.
I would definitely try this author again though.
3.5 stars

looooooved this. It kept me right in the middle of it and wanting to see all the secrets she has! I could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting! I loved the characters and the intensity of this book! Parks hit it out of the park with this one! Def one of my faves!
First, I can't image being able to juggle 2 husbands at once. But this mystery only gets thicker as I turn the pages. Adele Parks writes one hell of a thriller. I found myself captivated. There are so many secrets to reveal and she gives little nuggets just frequently enough that I can't stand to put her books down.
By the time all was revealed, I was a bit disappointed - disappointed that it was over and I have to wait an undetermined amount of time until she writes another book! Perfect for anyone wanting to give thrillers a try!
I liked the first book a lot better . This one seemed to drag on and personal opinion don’t love books that talk about Covid
Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review
This book was great! I found it very captivating from the start: a woman with two husbands who is missing and presumed dead. It's always the husband...but what if there are two?
I was initially very confused why we were introduced to Stacey and the role she played, but it became clear to me after a bit. However I felt that part dragged on a bit.
I was unaware this was a sequel until the authors note at the end, which means Parks did a fantastic job at creating characters that were dynamic without having to use her previous work.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for my advance copy of this book
Two Dead Wives is the sequel to Woman Last Seen, and I am so glad it was written. I needed closure from the open end of the first book – my mind played out all kinds of scenarios so a big thank you to Ms. Parks for this!
This is a truly a twisted game of cat and mouse, with a full cast of unlikeable characters. I would urge to read the first book but Ms. Parks does a good job of summarizing Woman Last Seen in the beginning so use your own judgement.
The last third of the book is where it really takes off, the tension is building an all the final details and discoveries are coming to light. I loved how well everything came together.
My thanks to HTP books for this gifted DRC.
Kylie Gillingham is a missing bigamist, presumed to be murdered and one of her husbands is suspected. Leaving behind her two sons, the youngest is on the naive side, but insists she’s not dead, while the older is just plain angry. When they run away to a small seaside village looking for answers, no one is safe. Stacie Jones is recovering from brain surgery in the same village and cannot remember any of her past, her father is ecstatic to have her back from Paris, but Stacie is having flashbacks, or are they just hallucinations? Are the cases connected? Will they find the answers they seek before someone else gets hurt? This book was a page turner from start to finish and Parks ties it all together quite well. While it is a sequel, it reads quite well as a stand alone. Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I did not realize this was a sequel to Woman Last Seen, a book that I had not read going into this one, and as such I was a little lost and wished I had read this book first honestly. After a while, I ended up really enjoying this one. It was a crazy case that did not turn out how I expected, but in the best way. Thank you to NetGalley and MIRA Books for the digital copy to review.
Well I just absolutely could not get into this book. The first half of the book drug on forever. I think it may have had to do with the way they waited to introduce Stacie into the mix after I thought I knew all the characters. Then my brain spent several chapters debating who Stacie was and why we even cared. By that point, I almost DNF’d this book but as I’m not a quitter I trudged on.
The last 1/3 of the book was good. Had I had any inkling of liking any of the characters I think I would have been drawn in at that point. Honestly though, I just was so over all of them at the point I wanted to be done.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My first Adele Parks book but definitely not my last. These characters were crazy great. I loved the tension and twists. Thank you NetGalley, Adele Parks and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I didn't realize this was part of a series. It doesn't read like one. What I mean is I didn't feel like I was missing context.
I wasn't a huge fan though. I love the author but I just didn't feel these cops or the bigamist or her husbands. Actually one of her husbands grossed me out right away.
This is the second book in the DCI Clements series, although I didn’t read the first, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything important. Over all it was a good read but dragged on story wise at some points.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I did not know this was a sequel, perhaps that’s why I found it so confusing that I didn’t finish. I have read Adele Parks before and loved her writing, but this just didn’t do it for me, sorry.
I received an advanced copy from netgalley in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.
Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing, NetGalley, and Adele Parks for the chance to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I admit this book kept me on my toes trying to keep the characters straight. Initially it seemed as though there is a simple murder mystery of a woman that has been a bigamist that ultimately managed to get herself kidnapped and murdered by one of her husband’s and then her body has disappeared. Of course this all happened during lockdown in the Pandemic and so that slowed down justice being meted out. Meanwhile, we start being told this story of this woman who is living in a coastal town that is very isolated and who has lost her memory supposedly due to surgery from brain cancer. It was a rough transition from my perspective that explained who she was and it seemed very improbable but all in all the book was still a good read. I didn’t realize until after I read it that it was a sequel but it did a good job as a standalone book.
I’m thrilled to be part of the tour for this new Adele Parks novel: Two Dead Wives. This one kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat! I stayed up late reading it so I could see what happened. If you know me, you know I love suspenseful mysteries – this was a great one! Thanks for my review copy.
This story kept me guessing. At first, i wasnt sure I would finish, but then it just sucked me in and I could not put it down. 4 star read.
A twisty domestic drama that is both thriller, police procedural and revenge story. Told from multiple POVs, the story starts with a husband learning his wife had a whole other family and might have been locked up against her will. Now she's missing and DCI Clements has to determine which husband (if either) killed her, or if she left on her own and staged her death. I really enjoyed how different this story was (being mainly from the two men's perspectives). While this is related to Woman last seen, I didn't even realize it until I read the author's note at the end so it definitely works as a standalone too and was good on audio. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
This book is a sequel to a previous novel called "Woman Last Seen" which I haven't read. This can be read as a stand alone but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous book. Kylie is a woman in her early 40's and is missing and feared murdered. She was living a double life as a wife to two men: Mark, a landscaper who was a widower with two young boys when he married Kylie and Daan, a wealthy Dutch businessman. I didn't quite understand how Kylie who also went by the names Kia and Leigh could maintain two marriages and yet be a wonderful stepmother, but perhaps this is further explained in the first novel. The novel begins when the police detective DCI Collier finds evidence suggesting Daan is the killer.
The book follows several perspectives including those of s Mark's two boys, Oli age 16 and Seb 11 as they try to deal with the loss of their mother and to adjust to their mother's best friend Fiona who has moved into the house and is sleeping with their father. We also see the perspective of a woman named Stacie who is staying with her father during the COVID lockdown and recovering from brain surgery. I liked the viewpoint of this woman, Stacie and felt her sense of fear and isolation as she struggled to recover her memories. How the stories link up is interesting if expected. As DCI Clemens continues to investigate the case, we find out more about the actions of the characters around Kylie and what lead to her disappearance. I thought the ending was a bit over he top but certainly heart pounding! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.
