I will be honest and say that I dont know how to review this one, but it has a lovely cover, which is what caught my attention.

Spoilers ahead

So in here we have Callum. A lonely man who lives in the woods by himself as his mother died. He has absolutely no one in his life and spent the last few years with his mother taking care of her.

Well Mom made a friend with a sparrow who she named Aurear and asked him to stay and love her son.

So he did.

While out working Callum found a hurt sparrow and took him inside the cabin to take care of it. After he went out to get the bird bugs to eat, he came back to a sort of human who used to be a bird.

Yes, Aurear was a bird and mostly stayed a bird who would take human form. Not like a shifter, he did not retain human speech or thoughts, he was really a bird.

After some time, they fall in love with each other. I am not gonna lie, I had a hard time with the whole, "he was a really a bird" thing.

But it was sweet and they got to live together for 50 years and then both went out into the woods and disappeared? I think that's what happened.

Overall, this was ok, but could have been made better if we had Aurear's POV for more than 2 chapters.

For a novella, this is a really heartfelt tale. The mourning dove is Callum, a human who has lost his mother. The snow sparrow is Aurear, a red sparrow who turns into a winged man.

Most of it involves Aurear learning what it means to be human and Callum learning what it means to have somebody care for you. There are some spicy scenes (around three of them), as well as some adventure.

Not all of it is fun and games though. This novella does include near-death experiences. The ending, in particular, left me tearing up and questioning how much time my life has left. Due to the heavy nature of the end, I strongly recommend reading the bonus story. (It's about Aurear's first Christmas.)

Novellas are tricky to write characters with depth. Honestly, I think Eve Healy did a fantastic job. At the core, this is just a cozy tale of a M/M romance blossoming, but it speaks to the best and worst aspects of human nature.

It's difficult for me to pinpoint what readers would appreciate this most. Perhaps people who are interested in emotionally heavy romances, or cozy "monster" romance books?

I did receive this e-book from Netgalley, for which I am very grateful!

This was one of the sweetest, most heartwarming books I have read in a while. Callum and Aurear are precious together. The ending was very beautiful. A cozy BL novella with a little bit of spice thrown in.

Thank you to NetGalley for a review copy.

This was sweet. The romance was sweet, and I felt some feelings for the characters. Bad for them when they were grieving or worried or suffering. Happy for them when they started falling for each other and realizing they didn’t have to be alone and could have love.

Also bird man! Well, a bird turned into a man, and he still had wings. That was fun. A little more interesting in some ways than a typical shifter, since he was still sort of learning how to be human. And who doesn’t love wings?

My biggest issue was that most of the romance was sort of skipped over, except the sex. Even the hurt/comfort you don’t see very much of. (To be fair, there were at least a few non-sex scenes we got to see.) So although I know they spent a lot of time together, just the two of them, in an isolated cabin, I didn’t quite feel the extent of the feelings between them. But I felt some.

You also have to suspend a lot of disbelief, and I’m not even talking about the bird man. Things like Callum riding piggyback on Aurear’s back while Aurear flew with his wings… which were on his back. And Callum being seemingly deathly ill, but going out into the snow the next day.

But overall, this was a sweet and cozy romance story that doesn’t take long to read and will leave you with some nice feelings!

"The Mourning Dove and His Snow Sparrow" by Eve Healy is a sweet (and spicy!) novella that explores themes of love and loss. Despite its short length of ~120 pages, the book captivated me with its compelling storyline. The fast pace of the narrative makes it a perfect choice for a single-sitting read.

The main characters, Callum and Aurear, are beautifully portrayed, and their relationship develops quickly, drawing the readers into their world. Their journey is both heartwarming and heartbreaking, as they navigate the complexities of loss and first love.

I enjoyed the length of the story; it felt like the perfect peak into Callum and Aurear's world. However, I wasn't the biggest fan of the final chapter. I would have preferred a more open-ended conclusion to the story. I did find the bonus story about Christmas to be a delightful addition, bringing a sense of joy and leaving readers on a happy note.

Overall, "The Mourning Dove and His Snow Sparrow" is a short and sweet tale that packs an emotional punch. If you're looking for a quick, touching read about love, romance, and the bittersweet nature of life, this novella is worth picking up.

My first Eve Healy book, and I don't think I want to read more from her.
This book catches my eyes with its beautiful cover, but the plot and characters are so confusing.
Too many unnecessary writings and repetitive wordings.
And about the explicit scenes. Well... the author said that her husband helped a lot. But clearly her husband is not gay.
That's not how it works (To clarify, I'm gay, and lived with my partner for 3 years.)
I feel like there should be more precise descriptions with fewer sentences, and in the meantime, adding more background stories to back up the worldview setting.
The entire book now is like the author is writing a bunch of extra and repetitive words to meet the required word count.

The cover of this book is beautiful. It tells the story of Callum, who's mom recently died. He meets a Fox Sparrow Hybrid named Aurear and builds a romantic and sexual relationship with him. It's hard to visualize what Aurear would've looked like in human form. The story itself is decent but the sex scenes are mediocre at best. There were times during foreplay that consented should've been explicit established, but wasn't. You can find better and similar stories to this on AO3 or Wattpad. Unfortunately, this book wan't for me but if you're just looking for a novella with gay romance and smut that isn't that deep, then you'll probably like this.

This was a really sad but really sweet story. I think it belongs in romance more than erotica as it’s not more spicy than most romance books out now. Really cute if you like your romance with a side of fantasy. The intro story is quite sad but it’s a cute fluffy love story at its core, a little strange but overall it was great.

Not for me. The dialogue wasn’t that believable and the spice was not spicing to me but others might enjoy this book all the same.

⭐️⭐️ 2.5 stars! Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the book! I am voluntarily leaving a review.

The cover of this book caught my attention before I even read the description—it's gorgeous and perfectly captures the heartwarming dynamic between the two main characters, Callum and Aurear.

This is a great book if you're in a reading slump and in need of a quick, fun, and easy read to get back into the groove of things. With Callum grieving the death of his mother at the beginning of the story and then finding a new purpose in life after discovering the injured snow sparrow that later becomes Aurear, the story takes emotional twists and turns that gradually become heavier near the end of the story.

The emotional parts were a little more intense than I expected (as well as the spicy scenes), and I found myself feeling a bit confused with the story progressing at a fast rate. I'd say this is personal preference though—as someone who adores slow burn and the nitty-gritty details, I felt frustrated with some of the inconsistencies and loopholes in plot. Despite this, it left me feeling curious and invested—if the book elaborated on various details (such as the backstories of the characters), I'd definitely read it all over again! The little bonus scene at the end of the book was really cute too! Overall, a nice and cozy MLM fantasy novella.

A novella with 120 pages that offer a light and heartwarming reading experience. The story starts with Callum, that lives in a forest far from other human beings and feels lonely after the death of his mother. He's going through a motion of living when he suddenly stumbles upon an injured sparrow that magically turns into a human to feel that loneliness that Callum feels.

It's enjoyable, and I honestly will recommend this book because it reminds me of one of my favorite lengthy novels ORV. Somehow I get that type of feeling when I'm reading this book, which is a good sign because I usually don't read BL much. The book is full of sweet and endearing moments but offers other emotions like hurt, longing, and feelings. And also, look at THAT COVER! So gorgeous!

Something I don't particularly like when reading a novella is the short length of the book, sometimes, it hinders some explanation that is needed in the end, and sadly I feel this way with this book. But it's still good.

Thank You, Netgalley and BooksGoSocial, for the E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"The Mourning Dove and His Snow Sparrow" by Eve Healy is a novel that transported me to a world full of wonder, tenderness, and fairy tale charm. I was intrigued by the beautiful cover and excited as I started reading by the environment and sucked into the lives of the charming characters from the start.

Healy's words created a realistic and evocative environment, allowing me to immerse myself in the story thoroughly. The author's descriptive abilities brought each scene to life, bringing me to a world where love and fate collide.

The central protagonists, Callum and Aurear, grabbed at my heartstrings with their undeniable chemistry and charming bond. I couldn't help but pull for them as they faced the trials and tribulations that fate had in store for them. Their trip was intense to experience but still scattered with delicate moments and sincere feelings.

In conclusion, this book is a fantastic quick read that will leave you wanting more with its enchanting ambiance, endearing characters, and heartwarming tale.

Thanks to Netgalley and the marketing team at BooksGoSocial for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

3.2 ⭐

First of all, I have to say that I love the art of the cover. It's stunning ✨ and it matches the story quite well 👌🏻.

I planned to give this book a higher rating, but the last few chapters ruined it for me. Don't misunderstand, it was not a terrible ending. Honestly, it was my problem. I was not expecting such heavy emotional scenes in this genre, and usually, I don't enjoy that type of drama.

Other issues that bothered me were just small details, like things that were left unsaid or not carefully explained, but that's understandable for a short novella.

The writing and general pace of the story were okay. It has well-fleshed characters and an interesting setting too. The plot doesn't have a lot of twists and turns until de downfall at the end. It makes for an enjoyable read, quick and sweet.

In contrast to the emotional love story, you'll find some spicy sex scenes that blend naturally. I saw some reviewers getting surprised by how explicit it was but that's not a problem for me.

This is a great choice for those looking for a light read with a cute and steamy romance, and a little bit of hurt/comfort.

First of all i want to thank netgalley for gifting me this book.
This book was adorable. I gave it 4 stars. The characters were very cute and sweet. The magical realism aspect was very well done. It's a light fantasy novel. The fantasy aspects are very minimal. It's also very short. Around 120 pages. This book is still very well written. I love how the author writes straight to the point. No weird metaphors or synonyms. Just straight how it is. I really enjoyed that. I'm still so sad this book is over. It made me feel all kinds of emotions. I recommend this to anyone who is in for a short fluffy cute read. I do want to point out that this book is not for a younger audience. There is really mature content in here. As soon as it comes out give this book a go, It won't disappoint.

This was sure a sweet and spicy read. The story wasn't that complicated and although it was a quick read, the character developments were beyond good. I loved the characters as well and I do recommend this if you like reading erotica or a sweet and simple quick read!
PS: The cover is breathtaking!

**Thank you for the ARC. All opinions are completely my own.**

3 stars. Amazing cover art but bland story. The writing style is quite stiff and doesn't flow well. There's zero chemistry between the characters, which is disappointing even given the short length of 120 pages.

Also, personal preference, but I don't like when authors use the word "ok" instead of typing out the word completely as "okay."

This was a very sweet book that had heart and beautiful descriptions, with a sweet romance that was heartfelt. It was a little fast paced and the climax was finished a little too soon in my opinion but otherwise this was a good fluffy read that I would recommend.

Okay, this was the cutest thing I've read in a long time. I was a bit skeptical at first, because the beginning has a lot of excessive detailing and flowery writing, but I hung in there and I'm glad I did. Aurear is adorable. The way that he doesn't understand things but it so eager to learn is so very sweet. I really loved the relationship between him and Callum. Plus, the spicy scenes were HOT. I also loved the cute little Christmas epilogue at the end. Overall, this was great and I'd be interested in reading more by this author. Just remember that it is a novella and is meant to be quick and spicy, so don't expect a ton of relationship-building or a slow-burn.

Thanks to netgalley for providing this ARC.

This novella is about Callum who grew up with his mother in the middle of the forest. As he grew up he had to take care of his sickly mother instead of her taking care of him. One winter day, Callum comes back to the cabin to discover that his mother has passed and he is now all alone. He goes through the motions of living but is not really living until an injured fox sparrow comes into his life. This fox sparrow turns into a winged man named Aurear. Callum is drawn to his warmth after being alone for so long and comes to love him.

This was a bite sized cozy fantasy romance that is a nice light read. There are a not a lot of twist or turns just a simple read that is still enjoyable. The characters are sweet as they are learning to be with each other. Aurear is learning how to be human with Callum's help and they are both learning how to love each other. There are some spicy scenes that came about naturally and it was cute how they learned how to have sex for the first time. There is enough emotionally drive to keep a reader invested.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars for quick, light fantasy MM read.

I decided to ‘read now’ this book mostly out of curiosity because i used to similar stories with hybrid type creatures. I can not think of the correct terminology right now. I really thought there was a good chance of me enjoying this one since in the past I’ve enjoy similar ish stories but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

It was difficult to connect with the characters because it felt like they had no depth or emotion. Callum has the same inner dialogue a lot and it doesn’t really show who he is as a character. There wasn’t a point where I ever felt immersed in the story, it felt like I barely touched the surface. The first intimacy scene felt off because their relationship developed rapidly at that point. There wasn’t a smooth transition into it.

Overall, this book wasn’t for me.
