Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. I really struggled with this one!! The premise sounded great but it fell flat. I couldn't relate to the characters and almost didn't finish the book.

It takes most of the book to find out what really is The Truth About the Accident, but Nicole Trope makes the journey so worthwhile in her new psych thriller.
The prologue introduces us to a pivotal character – without letting us know exactly who that is and who is speaking about them. That becomes important later in the book, as chapters from this person are interspersed throughout the plot.
The first chapter is also a grabber, as it consists of calls to 911 following an accident in an intersection during a torrential rainstorm. If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice something striking right from the beginning.
(No spoilers, just pay attention to what the callers are saying).
The rest of the story unfolds from the perspectives of three women: Marla, Sonya, and Athena. Each of them has a tie to the victim of the accident. And each of them has deep secrets – also tied to the victim.
The author does a good job of keeping the reader guessing as to ulterior motives of each, while also building each of the women’s characters. Are they more similar than they (and we as readers) think? Is there something they know that the reader doesn’t?
And that “speaker” in the prologue…is that one of the women or someone else? Not telling.
In time, the twists really start to hit, and the reader realizes how the stories of the three women intertwine. It’s just excellent pacing all around.
One of the things I liked was the authenticity of each of the women. Their attitudes, reasonings, and motivations are organic, and each character is fully realized.
The resolution is a little bit far-fetched, but by that time, the reader is so invested that it doesn’t matter. I actually celebrated that each of the women got their “turn” in the resolution. And the last part? It makes a terrific bookend to the prologue.
I am a huge fan of Nicole Trope. The Truth About the Accident is one of her best, and I look forward to her next psych thriller.

The Truth About the Accident was an interesting read but unfortunately it just didn't keep my attention. By the books description, I was looking for something that was a little more thriller/mystery and less family drama so I ended up not finishing the book. I may end up coming back when I am in the mood for this type of book, but as of right now I am not going to be finishing.

Thank you, Bookouture, for the gifted copy!

I love books about revenge! In this case, it’s about one man, and three vengeful women! Wow!
Damon is a handsome, wealthy, successful business man, married to Marla. They have two children and a fairy tale life, until one fateful day changes everything.
The problem is that Damon is a liar and a philanderer. He has an appetite for beautiful women, and has cheated on Marla for years.

On the fateful day, Damon is the victim of a hit and run accident. He survives, but remains hospitalized in a coma, while the police try to discover whose car hit him.

Three women, the wife, the mistress and the therapist meet together to discuss Damon and his lifestyle.
Throughout the book we wonder who was driving the car that hit Damon, and who will end up with him, if he survives!

Twists abound in the well written thriller!
4 stars from me!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for my honest review.

A decent thriller with an interesting storyline. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives from all the women. However, I felt the ending was quite predictable and a bit more mystery and twists and turns would have benefited the story.

Nicole Trope knows how to bring it. Domestic thrillers are her best - this ine does not disappoint.
Add in the multiple ways of narration - transcripts, narrators, differing timelines.
All held my attention and drove the plot.

Damon Kennedy is the victim of a hit and run. His wife, his lover and his therapist are all interviewed by police. Was it a terrible accident or a deliberate attempt to kill a serial adulterer?
The Truth About The Accident is a psychological thriller and domestic drama set in Australia.
The book begins with different reports to the emergency services of the accident. It was fascinating to see how different people viewed the same incident, what details they remembered and how they were distracted by their own circumstances.
Marla has always tried to be the perfect wife and has accepted Damon's apologies after every affair. Sonya was Damon's therapist but her behaviour was definitely unethical. Athena is Damon's latest lover and pregnant with his child, refusing to have an abortion. Did one of these women seek to hurt Damon in revenge?
The book is written from 4 viewpoints. Marla, Sonya and Athena's perspectives are all presented in the third person to show the minutiae of their relationships with Damon and their reactions to the accident and police investigation. The fourth viewpoint is written in the first person and the identity is not given. This person has a malevolent tone which creates a wonderful tension as we ponder who it could be.
I was kept guessing about who was responsible and felt that the mystery was well maintained. Damon became more unpleasant in my eyes as his personality is revealed through the women's reflections. I was almost glad he'd been injured after the way he kept hurting the women he professed to love!
The Truth About The Accident is an entertaining book full of mystery.
