I found the best thing about this book was the title. It was anticipatory and I was looking forward to reading the story because of it. However, I don’t think the story lived up to the title. The story follows several women and their movements and actions regarding a certain man and lets you in eventually to the truth about the accident. The plot was a little thin and clichéd. The characters were not very likeable. A quick read. Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel.

I love beach reads and this one is a fast, action packed thriller. This book had me turning the pages so fast to see what would happen. You will definitely enjoy all of the twists and turns. . Once again, Nicole Trope keeps me on my toes! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Really enjoyable read from Ms. Trope!
I loved the arrangement of the novel- the 999 transcripts hooked me immediately as you notice slightly differing observations by the callers.
Then you have the different POVs and timelines- two things I love in my books!
The characters... there's some horrid ones here!
The plot was fast paced, and you can happily settle in for a good read if you pick this one up!

“The Truth About the Accident” is a relatively short, but very sharp, novel about love and betrayal.

On a rainy morning, a man runs across a road in front of busy traffic. He’s struck by a car that doesn’t stop, and witness reports are contradictory. He’s in a coma, and can’t immediately be identified.

The victim will turn out to be Damon, a very successful businessman. Damon should have had no reason to be at that intersection, at that time. Why was he there? Who struck him? And was it deliberate?

It soon becomes clear that Damon was involved with multiple women. The novel is told in chapters that alternate between women: his wife, Marla. His lover, Athena. And his therapist, Sonya. These three women have very different perspectives on him, although their reactions to his accident are very similar: fear.

Telling the story from multiple perspectives works well. This both helps Trope to maintain tension, and allows her to release information gradually but naturally. It also gives the reader a clear picture of Damon, a character who is initially an unresponsive lump in a hospital bed.

Trope draws us into the lives of the three women very quickly. Each is a different person, their relationships to Damon were quite different, and they’re interesting to us in different ways. Each is very sympathetic; for example, few readers will take the part of the wife over the lover. You’re likely to feel for and want to support both.

The characters are strong, drawing both empathy and concern from readers. It was the women which kept me reading, more than finding out what happened to an eminently dislikable man. I wanted to know what role each had in the accident, and I wanted to know what was going to happen to them.

The mystery at the centre of the story is relatively straightforward, and I don’t think it would be as compelling without the involvement of characters we care about. However, it’s well told and cleverly plotted. I think the revelations at the end will surprise most readers.

My only minor bugbear with this novel was how often characters worried about something, with Trope archly avoiding mentioning exactly what they were worrying about, even when the characters were narrating in first person. This is a device I tend to find annoying at the best of times, and here I felt it was very over-used. However, it does serve to maintain a sense of mystery, and not every reader will find it annoying.

As I said, this is a relatively short novel. It’s an easy but compelling read, and may make you think about how much you trust the people in your life. Both crime and thriller readers will enjoy this, as may readers who prefer domestic drama.

This was a quick but slow who-dun-it read. There were POVs left and right…I often forgot who was who and had to make reference notes. The husband (Damon) was a hot mess and loved how the various twists as the plot developed. While there was drama, it was tolerable to read; although, the characters came across as the same person, just at different stages of life. Thankfully the ending didn't fall flat and matched the author's unique storyline. The book was decent and I would recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the gifted ARC…as all opinions are my own.

There has been a hit-and-run and one man lies in a hospital bed. But while three people called 999 all three statements are different. There are no suspects so who did it and why?

Trope gives us a narrative told from multiple points of view with strong female characters and a twist I didn’t see coming.

This was a read where the tension kept building and I wanted to find out what happened next.

My first read by this author and I shall be looking out for them again.

I really enjoyed The Truth About the Accident by Nicole Trope. It was such a wild read. I devoured it in one afternoon.

I really liked the way the “truth” unfolded. Nicole Trope is a true story teller. The revealing of information was layered and kept me in a constant state of intense curiosity. It was a great psychological thriller. You know that an accident has occurred but the way it plays out to reveal what exactly happened was fabulous. I could see this as a movie with a Gone Girl feel.

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

'Any woman who believes she can rescue a man from himself is inevitably disappointed... no one can actually be rescued from themselves.'

In this book, we follow the story of Marla Kennedy and the other women in Damon (Marla's husband) Kennedy's life.

Damon is in the hospital and was left in a critical condition after he met an accident one rainy Wednesday morning, whether or not he'll survive, only time can tell. There have been various reports and calls for help made but they cant find who is responsible ~ The traffic cameras were not working, there were no witnesses and the heavy rain that day made it even harder to piece what had happened. Dumb luck, isnt it? Or is it?

Did Damon really had an accident? Was somebody out to get him? What's the truth about what happened that day? Most importantly, what's the truth about Marla and Damon's life?

You see, when you keep on keeping secrets, your secrets are going to get back at you...

----------------------------------------------------
Just WOW! This is my first book of the author's and must I say: I enjoyed reading this book sooooo much!

This book kept me hooked from start to finish and left me with a 🤯 and a what's meant to be it'll be feels after I finished it. Just a bummer I couldn't finish it in one sitting because, well, I have adulting duties (blech!!😣).

It is told in multiple POVs which I loveeeeeee as it gives the readers better understanding of all possible sides in the story, afterall, the truth have different sides to it.

As the readers are being let in on the 'secret' the suspense keeps on building up as we get to know an unnamed character. It isn't just a whodunit story anymore but we are now being confronted by questions about revenge, morality, death and freeing ourselves from our own.

If you're a domestic suspense junkie, this book is for you. I also recommend this to readers who enjoyed the works of Freida McFadden and those who want a subtle version of Jennifer Hillier's works.

Thank you, Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC ❤️

This book had me hooked. You get a point of view from everyone involved at least you think you do untill you find out that the wife lover and mistress weren’t the only ones being lied to. While he can’t let go of his wife but also refuses to be unavailable to every woman he gets what he deserves or does he! Recommend it kept me wanting more

Ahh, I loved the first Nicole Trope book I read, so I had high hopes for this one! Sadly, I found it very hard to finish. I do prefer first person narrating, but aside from the narrating, I was a little bored anf wishing they would just get to the point!

The Truth about the Accident takes you on one suspenseful, wild ride that will have your head spinning!
Though the premise of the plot seems familiar, the author puts a spin within this story that just makes you want to keep on reading and reading and reading.
I do have to say it took me a bit to figure out the characters and keep them in order. I had to go back more than a few times and remind myself who was who. By the middle of the book, it got much easier knowing the characters.
If you are in the mood for an intense domestic drama, this is a book you need to read.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I love Nicole Trope's books - they are always pacy and suspenseful, and she always writes relatable characters and situations. This book starts in such a unique way, with four different phone calls made to emergency services about the same hit and run incidents, all with differing versions of what happened. It sets the tone for a great mystery surrounding who's responsible for the attack on Damon, an unfaithful husband with multiple female enemies. As always, Trope's writing style is easy and accessible and pushes the pace until the exciting denouement. A highly recommended read for all domestic thriller fans.

Starting the book off with the transcripts of several emergency calls was genius, each call differed slightly from the others, so immediately you knew several people were involved and the story was going to be a mega twistfest as we tried to unravel the truth.

'There are three sides to this story; hers, mine and the truth'

This had me tangling myself in knots trying to work out who was the bad guy or woman should I say and I so wasn't expecting THAT ending!

It has three strong female characters at the helm and they all have their own personal reasons for exacting revenge on Damon. I don't want to go into too much as it will ruin the plot.

The Truth About The Accident is a fantastic domestic thriller, told in alternative POV. It's fast paced and a fast page turning read.

I always love when I see a new book by Nicole Trope. I love the voice she gives to the characters and the unexpected bits in her books. I’ll admit in this one I knew where it was going. Not sure if I was supposed to or not, but I always seemed to know where this one was heading. Except for one piece. But honestly, I like her style of writing and enjoyed the read.

I loved the start of this one. It really grabbed me. There were multiple calls about a pedestrian being hit on a rainy street and everyone calling in had a widely different description of the car that hit him. Let me forewarn you that no one in this is likable. The more you read about Damon, the more slimey he becomes. And while I am not married, these women are nuts. There are four POVs recounting what has happened after the accident. The wife, his psychologist, his mistress and a mystery woman that obviously cares for him. It didn’t take me long to figure out where this one was headed, but of course I’ve been wrong before.

The chapters are short and the pace is quick. I read this in just a few hours and really never thought about putting it down. It’s more a domestic mystery then a thriller, but I really enjoyed it.

If you a fan of cheating husbands and the family drama that ensues, you need to pick this one up.

This book started out so strong! The opening with three witnesses giving three different reports to emergency services blew my mind! The POV shifted frequently. At times, a scene would start in one POV and then another character would take over. Other times, three similar things happened in three chapters in a row, so you got each POV, which got repetitive. The overall story sucked me in and it was a great read!

★★★ 3.5 stars

There are three sides to this story...her's, mine and the truth...

Nicole Trope is one of my favourite authors and one I go-to without hesitation. And once again delivers a quick, easy read that revolves around an unfaithful husband, an angry wife and a string of women who really should know better. It's a compelling read filled with family drama and a wealth of secrets and lies. And I read it in pretty much one sitting.

The story opens with "the accident" and various 000 calls reporting the incident. Each of the three witnesses to call it in all describe a different car responsible for the hit and run and, while eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable, we eventually discover why.

Then we meet Marla. She's the wife of a CEO of a successful IT company. They've been married for twenty-on years and have two teenage children - Sean (19) and Bianca (17). But her marriage isn't all that it appears on Instagram and she self medicates with drink to get her through the day. And her children are practically grown, her usefulness there appears to have ended also. But life hasn't always been like this. She was there when her husband started his company and there as he built it up. She too has reaped the affluent rewards of his success in their beautiful home, luxury cars, designer clothes and expensive lifestyle. She even has botox to keep those wrinkles at bay. And it all looks good on Instagram too. But it's just a facade. And Marla suddenly feels as though she is no longer enough...for anyone anymore.

Sonya is a single mum to twelve year old Jasper. Her own marriage ended nine years ago and her ex has since moved to America, remarried and now has a brand new baby of his own. As a psychologist, one would think Sonya could read the warning signs and prevent all the heartache that came her way but she is only human too. She sits in her office awaiting her client who arranged this unscheduled appointment on her day off long enough to deem him a no-show before she grabs her bag and heads home.

Athena - even her name is ethereal - is a 39 year old woman about become a first time mother, pregnant with the child of her lover who doesn't want children. She thinks she can change his mind, that as soon as he sees his child's heartbeat on the monitor he will fall instantly in love with the baby and move in with her. She wants that more than anything. But at what cost?

When the news comes on that evening, scenes from the hit and run are breaking news. Police are appealing for witnesses, dashcam and mobile phone camera footage to help them identify the victim and the car that ran him down. Each of the three women see the news and each of them recognise the gold watch and the wedding band he wears...albeit, occasionally. Each of them rush to the hospital respectively to identify the victim as Damon Kennedy. But how are each of these women related to him? As the story progresses, readers will discover his relationship with each of them. But what does it all mean?

The police are struggling to find out who is responsible despite investigations and the constant questioning and review of their own respective vehicles, having been identified by nearby CCTV footage. But the drenching rain the day of the accident makes visibility on any footage retrieved next to useless.

And what of Damon Kennedy? And the trail of hurt rejected women in his wake? Did someone run him intentionally? And if so, who? The why is blindingly obvious but with so many suspects, the question remains which one of them did it?

The story unfolds through the differing perspectives of Marla, Athena and Sonya, as well as the odd random inclusion of a mystery woman peppered throughout. Each chapter is heavily inclusive of detailed descriptions of their interactions with Damon as well as each other. Sometimes I found this confusing as I was unsure whether some of the interactions took place before or after the accident. It wasn't entirely clear in the way it was told, leaving me a little baffled in parts.

While this was a quick and easy enough read, it wasn't one of Trope's best. And I really loathe to say that because I know what a brilliant storyteller she is and I love her work. But even our favourite authors can write a tale that we just don't enjoy as much as their others though I know I am bound to love whatever she brings out next.

Overall, a compelling read dripping with secrets, lies and tension. With a twist at the end that even left me guessing.

I would like to thank #NicoleTrope, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheTruthAboutTheAccident in exchange for an honest review.

The Truth about the accident is a superb domestic drama that I found difficult to put down. Told from the perspective of 3 women and an unidentified narrator. I was completely invested in this book from the very beginning. Great characters but one in particular I so badly wanted to reach into my kindle and slap very hard 😂😂. A compelling and engrossing read with plenty of twists throughout the book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.

This book was a quick easy read told in the POVs of three women who are all involved with the same man. A mystery 4th narrator adds some sinister elements to the story. The identity of this narrator is revealed at the end in a very underwhelming twist.

The chapters are short, which means that you don’t really learn much about any of the narrators outside of their relationship with the same man.

This book was full of twists and turns. Why some men think they can get away with anything blows my mind. Kept me engaged the whole time would recommend
