Heal Your Leaky Gut Diet and Meal Plan. The Natural Detox Program to Improve Digestive Health by David Brownstein is a short read, has some good information but in each page you will find « Humanix » and « Books » in bold, messing with the format; there are incomplete paragraphs that doesn’t make any sense and there are just a few recipes.
Perhaps this book will help you with the Leaky Gut Syndrome but will exacerbate some allergies, because it uses a lot of almonds, almond flour, celery, onions, pineapple.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I went into this book curious about the concept of a leaky gut and the book delivered on what a leaky gut is , what causes gut problems and challenges leaky gut causes.. The book breaks down the problems caused by leaky guts and the foods that heal the gut and meal plans. It's quite comprehensive and detailed

Informative and descriptive. For those with a variety of health problems, Brownstein offers practical solutions and science for changing up one's diet to heal leaky gut. The recipes aren't too complicated either.

If you are looking for an easy to read and even easier to understand book about leaky gut syndrome and a possible cure for your own symptoms, you have come to the right place.

So much of what I read in this book rings true and falls in with my own experiences. The author is a medical doctor who decided to branch out into holistic medicine. Even if you don't end up following the diet and meal plan, you will at the very least gain insight into WHY you have not been able to find help for your IBS and other symptoms. I break out in hives and mouth sores and/or have allergies to many of the foods listed on the diet, alas. so I will just have to keep trying. Probiotics have been helping me though - and I have been avoiding soy for years - and now I know why!

Highly recommended. for its simple, open writing style. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First off, this book is written very good. It uses simple language and breaks up everything into sections. I love the samples it provides as far as how to keep a food diary. The recipes seem simple and it even has an actual meal plan.

This book is very contradictory. For example in one section he said lectins were wheat and soy and in another section he said lectins were nightshades, grains (including quinoa and rice), and legumes. He also suggested using rice and oat milk instead of soy or dairy products, but a few pages before said rice and grains had lectins which are "bad." Likewise he suggested rye and sourdough as alternatives to wheat bread except these breads are not wheat free or gluten free!

To end on a positive, I thought the pineapple salsa was interesting to add green apple and I might make that.

Note: the ARC I received kept using the same stock images over and over and over and it was annoying; hopefully this was just a placeholder.

Eat right. Exercise. Three word summary.

If you want to dive deeper, there are things that you may like and/or things that may raise an eyebrow (one suggestion is something my doctor specifically said not to do unless there was a true allergy), but I know that in the field of diets and dieting, there are many ways to perceive an answer, even about leaky guts! So, as with any diet book, read it carefully and with wisdom toward your own health needs. I am not a doctor, I’ve never even played one on TV, I just enjoy reading books.

This explains what a leaky gut is very well. And what else mite me irritating you. The meal plans are decent, look filling and are still foods you want to eat.

I hear about leaky gut all the time - I get asked about leaky gut all the time and what people should take for it, supplement-wise, and what should they eat?? Well, I am not a medical doctor but I can direct people to books that they can read about to investigate for themselves. This one is easy to follow the author's "take" on the issue at hand and even though I do not agree 100% with what the doctor has written (for me personally I can see it helping people if for no other reason than to eat less processed foods and maybe become healthier from that alone.
The language is easy to understand and the book is comprehensible on a general level for most readers. Worth picking up if you have been diagnosed or want to investigate further with your doctor...if you are lucky enough to have one as 66,000 in my city of a half million are not. (a whole 16% or 1 in 6 people ... welcome to socialized medicine..it may be "free" but we pay for it in many ways!)
If you don't have a doctor, well, the advice in here cannot harm you, per se, as it is solid nutritional advice as you will be eating a diet that promotes digestive health by focusing on fibrous vegetables, fruits, fermented vegetables, cultured dairy products, healthy fats, and lean, unprocessed meats.
(eat ingredients not food!)

This book has some wonderful recipes and for them alone I like it. I personally agree that a lot of people are intolerant to dairy and could do with less sugar. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.
