I was very excited to receive an advanced digital copy of The New Wife by JP Delaney from NetGalley. I have read all the books this author has written and this did not disappoint.

Jess and Finn are brother and sister and are told about their fathers death by his new wife. Finn heads out to Mallorca to take ownership of his late fathers Finca that they were due to inherit on his death as part of their parents divorce settlement.

Once there Finn becomes infatuated with his new step-sister Roza and decides to keep on the recently renovated finca for himself, Roza and his stepmother Ruensa.

This is a great cat and mouse tale, do we believe the story as Finn is telling it or is there more to the mother and daughter than meets the eye?

Although I loved this well written book, I have been left somewhat confused. The ending felt rushed and I’m not sure if I have closure. Having read the authors note I suspect this was deliberate - very clever!

Another great unputdownable easy summer read!

My sixth book by J P Delaney.  I’ve enjoyed all his books, so was excited to see this coming up for release.

Siblings, Finn and Jess, learn of the death of their estranged father from his latest wife.  Their father lived in a finca in Spain, a pre-dated arrangement  - an usufructo - meant the house belonged to Finn and Jess and would become theirs to do with as they pleased, upon the death of their father.  Kerching, huge inheritance!

Their father’s wife and daughter appear to know about this prior arrangement, and seem very reasonable about moving out.

Finn (our narrator) goes out to Mallorca to sort out the legalities but upon meeting his father’s widow and her daughter things get complicated.  I won’t say more about the plot – I will say there are hints and early warnings throughout the book, listen to your gut.

It’s a great slow-burn cat and mouse thriller; although who is the cat and who is the mouse is ambiguous.  A clever take on the genre.

The rich descriptions of the sunny Spanish scenery contrasted nicely with the darker side of the characters. This would be a great beach read over summer.  If you like your beach reads dark ..

It starts fairly slowly, introducing the reader to the characters.  Stick with it.  As the story and characters develop, and the twists start coming, you find yourself questioning who is good and who is bad? Is it really that simple?

I would definitely recommend this twisty psychological thriller.

Thank you NetGalley and Quercus for sending me this book for review consideration.  All opinions are my own.

Set in Mallorca thriller with a lot of twists. The main characters are very convinced. The book is written very well and easy to read. Recommended.

Siblings Finn and Jess are dealing with the death of their father who lived in Spain. Finn travels from London to handle the inheritance of the property and to deal with the new wife and her daughter who are currently living there.

This was so slow it was painful to get through the first half. Finn is a pathetic character, it was too hard to get invested in him. Overall the story was too weak to be interesting. I wouldn't recommend it.

The one thing that it did have going for it was the description of the Finca and the scenery, it was well written and easily to visualise.

This latest thriller by JP Delaney is inspired by the works of Daphne Du Maurier. I found the book engrossing and finished it in a single sitting. The author captures the atmospheric setting of Mallorca and the characters are well-drawn. The plot twists and turns and touches on some dark themes such as bogus marriage, people trafficking and prostitution. This is not a book for those who like a conventional thriller with an unambiguous ending. The final judgement is left to the reader.

Thank you Netgalley, Quercus Books and JP Delaney for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the advance copy.

This is my first book by JP Delaney but it won't be my last.

The story starts with Finn and Jess discussing how to deal with the legalities of their father's death and their now ownership of the finca in Mallorca. Finn ends up travelling to Mallorca and winds up staying for reasons to be discovered.

I adored the characters in this, constantly guessing where the story was going and I didn't see the ending twists coming. Great read for summer. I imagine this will be around the pool on lots of holidays.

4.5 stars.

Finn travels to Spain after the death of his father to claim his inheritance. When he arrives he is greeted by his fathers new wife and her daughter and he immediately falls under their spell.
A really good psychologist thriller with some very sinister overtones that kept me guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quercus Books for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to JP and NetGalley for allowing me to read The New Wife before the publication date.

When siblings Jess and Finn are notified of their father’s death, their reaction is …..surprising, or even shocking.
The book starts slowly, introducing the characters and giving the reader the opportunity to form their own opinions of them.
Then suddenly, the story takes off, leaving the reader to wonder who is telling the truth and who is lying.
The author uses the initial surprise as the foundation for the story and the outcome was interesting to say the least.

I loved the setting to this book. It started off slow until around 70% and then the twists kept coming! It was good at the end but hard to stick through the first part. This author has written some quirky books that I’ve always loved.

JP Delaney knocked it out of the park once again.

This book was SO juicy, I loved the setting and I thought that the writing of the main character and how our feelings towards him develop as the book goes on was very clever.

I have read and enjoyed all of this authors books and was super excited to get approved for an early copy of this one. While this was a slower burn than usual, it was a gripping story than I read in under 24 hours. A beautiful setting and sense of uncertainty had me hooked. The final chapters were so clever that I began to doubt everything that I had already read. I thought I knew exactly what was happening and happy to say that once again I was totally wrong.

Finn sets off to Mallorca or settle his estranged fathers estate after his death. Finn and his sister Jess are not saddened by his passing, but keen to claim their house that they have inherited, sell it and move on with their lives, only things are not that easy. Their fathers wife and step daughter are living in the house and have nowhere else to go. Things get complicated when Finn gets to know the 2 women.

That is all I am going to tell you about the story, any more would spoil it. It is a very well written story that will shock you many times over. If you have enjoyed this author a before you know how their books go!!

Thanks so much to Quercus Books for my advanced copy to read. Publishes on July 20th.

Finn and Jess are brother and sister and quite close. They did not have the best childhood with their father constantly drunk upsetting everyone in the household and making life miserable. When Finn receives a call to say that his father has passed away he calls Jess to let her know and neither of them is overly upset at this news, but they both realise that their father's property is now legally theirs, as the title had been transferred to them both by their father. They are sure the place is completely run down from what they have been told by the family lawyer. Jess is all for selling the property, she has children and wants the money to help support and educate them. The only obstacle in the way may be their father's third wife Ruensa, and her daughter who are still living in the property

Jess suggests that Finn travel to Mallorca to meet the wife and reinforce to her that the property is his and his sister's name and that she will have to find other living arrangements . When he arrives the old place still looks run down but once closer and inside the property he is shocked at the renovations that have been made, the place is gorgeous.

Once there Finn he is quite taken with Ruesna daughter and feels sorry for the them as they have created a new home and now they will be forced to leave, or will they? Also their is now a question over their fathers death and the Spanish Police are involved into digging further into this. Another curve ball is about to be thrown into the whole story.

Once again JP Delaney writes another entertaining story which it is definitely worth picking up, it is a light read that still enjoyed very much. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.

I’ve loved reading all of the Author’s previous books and was looking forward to reading this one.
It took me a little while to get into the book, I loved the descriptions of the scenery and area and could picture the setting clearly, but I initially wondered whether the style of book was different and I was reading what I would describe as my ‘holiday books’.
I took quite a dislike to the main character and his behaviour, however once the story unfolds I realise the author was quite clever with developing his personality.
The ending was quite frantic and I think I will need to read it again sometime to check I haven’t missed anything as I didn’t predict the twist at all!
I really did enjoy the book in the end, it was cleverly written and who doesn’t love a book with a big twist! Thank you for the opportunity to review it

Another great book from JP Delaney. I’ve read other books by this author this one was just as good as those. I really enjoyed the story and the characters were well thought out.

I always have high hopes when I start a JP Delaney and this did not disappoint. It kept me guessing the whole way through and despite knowing a twist was coming, I hadn’t guessed it at all. I really liked the characters, and enjoyed the different setting compared to his other books.

I was extremely overjoyed to be approved to review this title and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I was captivated by the story from the start when Finn and Jess learn that their father has been killed in Mallorca - leaving them to inherit their childhood home subject to the terms of a ‘usufructo’.
The only problem is that the ‘finca’ is occupied by their fathers new wife and step daughter.
The story begins to unfold through the narrative of Finn who travels to Mallorca to deal with the inheritance. He quickly becomes embroiled a tale of suspicion, lies and rumours.
I particularly enjoyed J P Delaneys use of ambiguity throughout and believe this is what will set this novel apart from others in its genre- the message that your truth is not always someone else’s.
‘What matters is not so much what actually happened as who one chooses to believe’
I know who I believed pretty much from the start and can’t wait to hear whose truth other readers will accept.
I also can’t not mention the undertones of Daphne Du Maurier’s ‘My Cousin Rachel’. As Du Maurier is one of my all time favourite authors this really won me over and added even more to the mystery and atmosphere. I would highly recommend this book!

This was a bit hard for me to get into, I thought this had quite a slow start and build up. However once the plot got going I really enjoyed this and thought the storyline and characters were engaging. I loved the thrilling and suspenseful atmosphere that was filled with twists and I especially thought the ending was amazing and this went out with a bang. This is perfect for a summer read.

I found this a slow starter and struggled to get into it until the last half. There is a good plot and an interesting set of characters but it took me longer than usual to start to feel engaged.

Finn and his sister Jess learn of the death of their father, an alcoholic lothario living in Majorca with his latest wife and her daughter. Finn offers to travel there to meet them and ensure they leave the property and get it ready to sell. Far from that Finn falls for Roze, his step sister, and the tragic events from here lead to an unexpected ending.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

A great read, I read it over a weekend. Really beautiful setting, well described and easy to get lost in. I love the conflict between the characters, and the conflict as a reader not knowing who to trust. Good twists throughout, leading to a strong ending.

I really enjoyed this book. A story that is layered, clever and thrilling. Following Finn, returning to Spain after his father's death to xlsim his inheritance, he is immediately struck by his step sister and soon becomes obsessed. He decides to stay in Spain and becomes more and more involved with his step family. Whilst at the same time, questions their story of his fathers death and their history. What at first appears to be a simple story of a man wronged and duped by women, is soon turned on its head, unveiling a man with a history of praying and stalking women. I read this in a day. A great read.
