This was a solid mystery/thriller. It started off slow but the second half flew by. There are A LOT of secrets being kept in this book. So many that I actually started getting numb to it. I would recommend to people who love mysteries and thrillers, but I wouldn't say it brings anything new or earth shattering to the table. I was satisfied with the ending.

The storyline was all over the place in this book, which made it confusing to follow and stay engaged. I didn't connect with the characters, and there was just too many of them. The twist was predictable. Just "meh" overall.

I'm very thankful to Macmillan Audio, Flatiron Books, Kate Alice Marshall, and Netgalley for the advanced physical, digital, and audio access to this twisty flashback thriller before it's projected to hit shelves on January 23, 2024.

14 years ago, the Palmer sisters, Emma, Juliette, and Daphne, found themselves in a sticky situation as their parents were murdered execution-style in their family home. The blame was ultimately placed on Emma for she had the most motive at the time, but flash forward to present day and Emma and her new husband (with baby on the way) have returned to clean up and sell the home for profit. This return home has brought upon a series of gossiping and vandalism for the whole town still ardently believes Emma is to blame, but boy oh boy are they so very misguided.

JJ (Juliette) and Emma bind together to learn that their seemingly perfect family had more nefarious intentions all those years ago, involving themselves shady business and extramarital affairs that lead to their untimely demise, but still who is to blame other than one of the girls? The twist will get ya, and while I totally saw it coming, I feel many would still enjoy this book's narrative and plot.

Kate Alice Marshall is officially an auto-buy author for me now. This book was so good! The dual timelines were used perfectly and I love how twisty the ending was. I stayed up late last night to finish it and I have no regrets. Marshall is a master storyteller! (It doesn’t come out for a month or so, but if you have BOTM, you can get it now.)

This book was a bit on the predictable end for me. I enjoyed it nonetheless but I still was able to detect where the story was going fairly easily. Twists were very much anticipated but still effective. First read of mine of this author and I would read her again. 4/5 stars.

As a thriller lover, I was fully invested in this story from the get go. The author intentionally gave us just enough information to reveal parts of the past, but not quite enough to form a true theory about the actual murders. Of course as time went on, we learn more and start to question who to believe. The pacing was perfect, the ending was satisfying, and I’ve been thinking about it even after finishing the book. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was because I began to get confused due to the amount of characters from the past and found it hard to keep track of all of them,

This was my first book by Kate Alice Marshall, but I’ll certainly be reading more of hers soon!

This book revolves around Emma. She is one of three sisters in the Palmer family. Their parents were murdered in their childhood home and Emma was thought to be the primary suspect. She was never brought to trial, it was all conjecture on the police’s part. However, the town treated her like a murderer and shunned her. The three sisters have been estranged since the night of their parents murders. Emma has always felt abandoned and unloved because of it. She is now married to Nathan and just finds out she is pregnant - at the same time Nathan tells her he has lost his job. They are forced to move back to that childhood home so they will have a place to live. They soon find the town still thinks of Emma as a criminal and the house is vandalized and Emma keeps experiencing police harassment by the same policemen who tried to pin the murders on her when she was younger. Emma has never told her husband all the details of her past, he knows her parents are dead but doesn’t know how they died, or how Emma was the main suspect. Emma realizes she must face the past and try to figure out what happened that night and who was responsible for her parents’ murders. The three sisters have kept silent on the events of that night all these years and “protected” one another., now Emma is determined to find the truth and possibly clear her name so she can live in peace. The story is suspenseful and has a few twists and keeps you drawn into finding out the truth. The characters are well written, not all are likable, but that’s to be expected. I thought the ending was good, but it had a little too many extra twists that made it a bit jumbled. All in all, I enjoyed the book a lot and recommend this book if you like family mysteries. I give the book 4 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is set to be published in January, 2024.

Do you believe your family is messed up? Well, you have not been properly introduced to the Palmer family. The family that has it all. A life everyone dreams of, money, three gorgeous daughters, everyone should be jealous of what they have. Once you open the front door and step over the threshold all that facade crumbles. Anger, tension, and greed lead to all three girls trying to hold onto themselves. Wishing they could be seen and loved as they are. Not some shiny object that must always be on display no matter who is around. The curtain falls one night, as the silence explodes with the sound of gunshots. The three girls are the only ones left alive. Emma is the one who takes the fall for her two sisters. Never telling anyone what occurred, not actually knowing herself what happened. All left up in the air but knowing her sisters could not take the fall...

Emma is pregnant. She wants to shelter and hold on to her belly, protecting it from everything and anything. Nathan breaks the news he has been laid off. Where are they going to go? They have no money, the last of their savings going to the loan that was supposed to buy their new home. Emma opens her mouth and offers up her family's house. Her and her sisters own it jointly, but they could live there. None of the girls have been back to the house since that horrific night that took their parents. No one in the town of Arden Hills has forgotten that Emma was probably the one who murdered them. The hostile stares, police visits, the comments, will it be too much for Emma?

I loved this book! It is one that made me think I had it all worked out, but I did not. It flings you between Then and Now. Giving you bits and pieces of the story through the three sisters. Giving you enough information to have you running in one direction, until the next chapter's details have you going in another. Thank you to Kate Alice Marshall and Flatiron Books for my copy of this dark family drama!

Ooooh. This book had secrets and trauma. This book reeled me in with Emma being the main suspect in her parents death. Crazy to think what happened and who she was protecting. I enjoyed this a lot!

I really enjoyed this book! The first book I read of Kate Marshall was What Lies in the Woods. I thought it was a good book, but I did like this one much better! First of all, it's got a great cover. I was drawn to it because it fits the same bill as a lot of five start psych thrillers for me.

I like a thrill that is going to send me around and around, and this one did for sure. It set up a lot of would-be suspects. It made one feel fairly obvious, and then sent me in a different direction, and if a book can keep me guessing, then that is a good thing. I hate for a book to be spoiled by my own thinking lol.

I also loved the sister aspect of this book and the story because I'm a sucker for a good family tale.

This book gets four stars for me, and I'll continue to read KAM's work as it comes out. Looking forward to the next one!

The best part of this book was the multiple pov’s and dual timeline. It worked really well and helped to differentiate the three sisters and bring depth to their characters. The murder mystery aspect was engaging and I was invested in finding out what happened.
My main issue with this book was last 20%, where the reader is bombarded with multiple false reveals of who the murderer is. It was too much in a short amount of time and left me confused and unsatisfied with the ultimate reveal.
This was my first by this author, and although it wasn’t perfect, I would read more by her.

This was my first book by Kate Alice Marshall and I totally regret not reading her books sooner- I’ve had What Lies in the Woods on my shelf for a bit and will absolutely be prioritizing that one soon! This was a twisty, jaw dropping, whodunnit psychological thriller with a unique premise which I believe sets it apart from the rest. I had such a hard time putting it down and it hooked me right in from the beginning and kept me guessing and on my toes the entire time! I loved the multiple POV and timelines as well. I loved this one from cover to cover and can’t wait to see what’s next from this author!

Thank you so much to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for my early digital copy for my honest thoughts and review!

After Emma finds out she’s pregnant and that her husband was laid off, she reluctantly goes back to her childhood home where her parents were murdered and everyone suspected she did it. Her and her two sisters are estranged after her parents death and the truth is finally going to come out.

I really liked this book! I read it in only two sittings, I had to finish it and find out the truth. There were a lot of twists throughout. I do feel like the end had a little too much going on. I felt really bad for Emma and her sisters throughout the book. They had a hard childhood and it was easy to sympathize with them. The mystery was interesting to follow and i enjoyed the writing! The characters were all well developed and the plot was well developed.

This was my first book by this author and I will be checking out her other books! Thanks so much to netgalley and Flatiron books for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This book opens with a bang! Parents murdered. Three sisters wait together for the police. What happened? That was then. Now has one of the sisters needing to move back to the house where it happened and where she hasn’t told her husband the total truth. This book sucked me right in.

Told in three sisters points of view each with a “then” and a “now.” You know something happened the night the parents were murdered and all the sisters have vowed secrecy about that night but what happened and who did what?

This book kept me up wondering what in the world happened that night. The ending got a little too much for me but still kept me up to finish it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Alice Marshall and Flatiron Books for this ARC.

“This is our house now. Until we leave, it’s ours, not theirs. What happened here doesn’t matter. It can’t matter. That’s the only way this works.”

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) This mystery-thriller has me on the edge of my seat!

Meet Emma, whose past is shrouded in tragedy as her parents were brutally murdered when she was just a child. The suspicion surrounding her and her sisters lingers, with no proof to dispel the whispers.

Now, due to financial woes, Emma and her husband move into the very house where the unspeakable crime took place. Blood still stains the floor, and being back brings a wave of uncertainty and renewed suspicion from the town and the police.

As Emma’s husband delves into the details of that fateful night, the sisters’ harrowing experiences are laid bare. “There were people who could be a curse on those around them. Their rot infected others and it spread and spread, it got into the blood, the marrow, the lungs.”

The town and the police thirst for justice, and being back in the house stirs up more problems for Emma. The sisters forge connections, secrets unravel, and the danger that has long simmered beneath the surface rears its head once again.

No One Can Know is a gripping journey into a world where secrets, danger, and a dark history collide. If you love mysteries that send shivers down your spine, this one is a must-read!

Thank you to Flat Iron Books and NetGalley for the copy!

The book releases January 23, 2024.

Wow! This book will draw you in and keep you guessing up to the last minute. I love how this story unfolds. You think that one thing is the truth only to be proven wrong time and time again. Readers are going to be swept up in the mystery, and the intrigue. There is a perfect blend of the past and the present, and each sister is beautifully represented and portrayed. This book is the perfect cold weather mystery reading. I cannot wait to recommend this soon. Thank you to Flatiron Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy.

This book was so twisty and weird - but I think I loved it! This was one that I didn't know much going in and that is my favorite way to read thrillers.

There was just something about this book that didn’t hold my attention. It was interesting enough and the ending was unexpected but all in all I’ve just enjoyed other thriller/mystery books much more. I enjoyed the jump between past and present and the different points of view. I think at times the pacing just seemed off to me. A decent mystery any thriller loving girl will enjoy for sure.
