Emma, Juliette, and Daphne would do anything to protect each other, including murder, in this latest thriller from Kate Alice Marshall.
This novel alternates between the sisters' teenage years growing up in Arden Hills, and years later, when they have become estranged. Each of them has reinvented herself to bear no resemblance to the past and what happened to them growing up.

The three of them have not spoken in years when the book begins, not since their parents murder, and are all busy with their own lives, when the past comes creeping back in to haunt them.
Emma has fallen on hard times. Her husband, Nathan, has been laid off, she's been on and off steady employment, and she discovers that she is pregnant.

Nate has the genius idea to move back to her childhood home to save money until they get back on their feet financially.

She reluctantly agrees and arrives at Arden Hills with more questions than answers. You see, her parents murder was never solved, and she was the main suspect. She and her sisters have limited memory about what happened that night, only that they must cover it up and admit nothing.

This is the beginning of a great premise, and you immediately are sucked into the story. Did one of the sisters kill her parents, or an outsider with a grudge? You see, the Palmers had plenty of enemies, from the fathers' shady business dealings, to the mothers' drug use, to the abuse they inflicted on the girls, all would make anyone a suspect. But who would have the most to gain?

As Emma uncovers more clues, the sisters join her to hash out what really happened that night. Old boyfriends are unearthed, and Emma begins to question her future with Natan. The final reveal is not a surprise but as we go through several suspects to get there, it keeps you guessing.
A good, solid thriller at hand. I did find it hard to believe that the sisters went years without discussing what happened, and who might have been the murderer, but they did pledge a vow of silence.

I was a huge fan of ‘What Lies in the Woods’, so when I saw this, I jumped at the chance to read the ARC!

Emma is pregnant and her husband just lost his job. With nowhere to go, they end up back at her childhood home in Arden Hills. The home where her parents were murdered years ago and everyone in town thinks she did it. As expected, once she returns, she secrets she tried so hard to keep are bound to escape. What really happened the night her parents were murdered? Who did it and how far are they willing to go to keep their secrets?

This kept me hooked from the very first page and I didn’t want to put it down! It was fast paced and full of twists and turns until the very last page. I loved the alternating time lines that gave us a glimpse into the sisters’ past. I can’t even say much about this book without giving spoilers, but it was definitely worth the read! Another 5 star from Kate Alice Marshall!

Big thanks to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the ARC of No One Can Know.
I loved Kate Alice Marshall’s previous novel, What Lies in the Woods, so I was eager to dive into her newest thriller.
The story follows three sisters, who were torn apart 14 years ago following the murder of their parents. The cased remains unsolved, but the law enforcement and locals placed blame on the middle sister, Emma, who has returned to town in search of the truth.
I greatly enjoyed this who-dunnit mystery, falling just short of five stars simply because I felt the blame/truth was shifted around too many times, particularly near the end. I love a good twist, but I also feel there can be too many.
Otherwise, still loved this one and would definitely recommend to a friend!

This novel jumps from two different timelines. To be honest, I wasn't really rooting for any character. I didn't really feel invested in the story at all. In fact, I didn't really care to find out who the killer was. I had to push myself to finish this one. I loved this authors' previous novel, so I will still pick up her works in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron books for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Reviewed for NetGalley:

Emma and her husband, after dealing with a financial hit and job loss, moves back to her family home and small hometown.

However, returning to the place of so many horrible memories and loss, secrets are soon uncovered and brings her estranged siblings back home as well.

Kate Alice Marshall unveils another spooky thriller with an underlying sweetness/bitter sweetness beneath it all. Enjoyable, as always.

This is a twisty, psychological thriller about 3 sisters and the secrets that they carry. One night their parents are brutally murdered in their home and all 3 girls are there. The police try to pin the murder on Emma but she is exonerated. Fast forward many years in the future, none of the girls have kept in touch. Emma and Nick, her husband, decide to move into the family home as they hit a bit of financial bad luck. This is the catalyst for all 3 sisters to reunite and secrets to be revealed!

I really enjoyed this story! The pace is fast, the characters are weird at best but likeable and well developed. The plot alternates between the 3 sisters and the timing of then and now. There is a lot going on but its not difficult to keep up. The twists are well done...just when I thought I had figured it all out, there was another twist that changed the course.

A fun mystery that I highly recommend!

I still have SO many questions. To be fair, I think that’s the point. However, books like that make me angry haha I love answers!! That being said, this was great! All of the characters were the perfect amount of suspicious and irritating, yet intriguing. Safe to say Marshall is 2/2!

This book had a great plot about 3 sisters and the murder of their parents. Told from three points of view and past and present was a little confusing. The book seemed to drag in multiple points in the story-however the ending was pretty good. There were a lot of characters and that also made it confusing at times. Overall it was a decent book but I never felt excited about reading it and didn’t feel like I couldn’t put it down. Thank you to NetGalley, Flatiron Books and Kate Alice Marshall for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kate Alice Marshall had me hooked from page 1. This is a fast paced psychological thriller that includes the past and present of three sisters following the murder of their parents. The parents were perfect on paper and appearance but behind closed doors were abusive and had secrets. The murders remained unsolved but one of the sisters, Emma, remains the number one suspect. As she returns to her childhood home with her husband, she begins to question and investigate everything she thinks she knows from that night. I love that this story demonstrates the unspoken bond between sisters and has you questioning and second guessing every character in the book.

This is the second Kate Alice Marshall book I read and I must confess that she is moving up on the list of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book and only took off a star because the end became a little too busy for my liking. I felt that the who done it was changing too often to follow when the story was wrapping up.

Thank you to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was incredible. The twists and turns were unexpected. I love when I read a book and I can picture it like a movie in my head. Every time I thought I figured it out, I was so wrong

I absolutely loved this book. Kate Alice Marshall has done it again and keeps you guessing the whole time. The dynamic between the three sisters is amazing. The all have secrets and little by little those start to come out in regard to their parents' murder. Just as you think you know what's going on, you are sent another direction. I loved this book and will be sure to buy a physical copy once released. thank you Netgalley for the ARC, I devoured in one day!!!

A new twisty thriller from the author of What Lies in the Woods.

Three sisters, separated after tragedy. Emma, does not know much about Daphne or Juliette anymore but she hopes to get in touch with them soon. She's pregnant, jobless and needs to stay in their shared house...the house. The house where their parents were murdered many years ago. Following the tragedy, the sisters were split and the house lies empty.

Returning to her childhood home with her husband Nathan brings up many old memories. Plenty of townspeople believe Emma murdered her parents and she can't seem to convince anyone that she is innocent. The question is, is she innocent? Who killer her parents?

Twisty thriller, perfect set up - if you love a twist, a practically haunted mansion, or just love a estrange sister reunion, No One Can Know is for you!

Everything has collapsed around Emma and Nathan: an accident left her without employment; they need to vacate their rental in 60 days; they put earnest money down on a house but Nathan was just laid off so they’re going to lose the down payment; and Emma just found out she is unexpectedly pregnant. Emma hasn’t been totally forthcoming about her past with Nathan, but now is the time to tell him the full story of an asset that could assist them — her murdered parents’ mansion (not a dilapidated farmhouse), co-owned with her two sisters. This primarily is Emma’s story and her return to the murder house prompts the return of older sister Juliette/JJ and the need to contact younger sister Daphne. The three were split up 15 years ago — JJ disappeared to college; Emma and Daphne were put in foster care. And they haven’t talked during all that time. Now Emma isn’t even revealing what happened to her husband Nathan — she’s still secretive and apparently loyal to her sisters and their agreed upon false version of what happened. But why? And if one of the sisters didn’t kill the parents, who did, why did they, and what does Emma’s return do to stir things up?

The pace is steady, but it dragged until a twist just beyond the midpoint. It’s hard to root for an Emma who’s being surly to her husband, antagonistic toward her sister JJ and the old police investigator, and continually secretive. She is so adamant that the truth will be left in the past — that creates a stalling point in the narrative’s flow. Since I was tempted to almost not finish, I can only give this 3.5 stars. A more patient reader might enjoy this story of sisters more.

This was my first Kate Alice Marshall read, and let's just say it did not disappoint! I was for sure I knew who did it, but then the more I read the more I was second guessing myself. I was kept on my toes for sure! The POV between the 3 sisters in right before the murder happend and now is perfect. The only thing I could wish for to make it a 5 star for me is a POV from Emma's husband, Nathan, to know if he really believed her and what was really going on in that head of his.

Emma keeps her past close to her, only telling her husband that her parents died and that she hasn't spoken to her sisters in years. However, when her husband loses his job, they lose their apartment, AND Emma finds out she's pregnant, the only place they have to turn to is Emma's childhood home--the scene of her parents' murder.

Emma and her sisters are bound by silence over what happened in that house so many years prior. Told in alternating points of view and in dual timelines, it seems that one sister is covering for the others. But as more details emerge, instead of painting a clearer picture of her parents' last few moments alive, the more questions arise of just who was in the house that fateful night.

Only one thing kept me from perfect enjoyment of this story, and that was how distant I felt from the characters. Usually I can put myself in the story, and it's like I'm there watching the action from a front-row seat. I had a hard time connecting with any of the sisters, but despite that minor issue, I was invested in the outcome and was left guessing until the end.

Thank you so much to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for this early read. NO ONE CAN KNOW will publish January 23, 2024.

“No one can know” by Kate Alice Marshall is a psychological thriller set in a dual time line with narration by three sisters: Emma, Juliette, and Daphne. The book begins with Emma and her new husband coming back to live in the house that the sister’s parents were murdered in 10 years earlier.
The story is a quick read and suspenseful with narrative twists to the very last page.

This was a good murder mystery. I thought I had it figured out a few times but it would always take a turn. Like the way the author writes and would recommend

This is my second five start Kate Alice Marshall book and I’ve only read two! The plot was unique and not one of the been there done that tropes I’ve read a million times. Three estranged sisters are harboring secrets, even from each other, about the night they found their parents murdered. Throughout the entire book (yes even until the very final pages) I never quite figured out who the murderer was. Just when I thought I had it a new twist or piece of information would come out and throw me for a loop. The book hooks you right from the very beginning and kept me engaged throughout. Thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron Books for the ARC.

Emma and her sisters have not spoken much in years, actually not since her parents were murdered and she was suspected of involvement in. When Emma's husband loses his job, and their income becomes non existent, they moved back into her family home which was left to her and her 2 sisters in trust.
No one has lived there since the murders.
And so the story begins.
Some very good and well-developed characters in an interesting and "not sure what to expect next"
unraveling story. Her husband has trouble with the assurance of her innocence when locals start
harassing her and targeting their home.
Suspenseful for sure and great reading for those who really like a genuine mystery,
Kept me guessing.

A good book with lots of twists and turns. I did get a little confused at times with the different viewpoints and timelines, but I think that it worked out in the end.
