I was drawn in by Bewitching a Highlander by Roma Cordon. This was sexy and magical. Breena was a witch from Skye who went to find her missing father. She met Egan, who trries to help her, but their attraction could cause a great deal of trouble with clashing clans.

I loved the descriptions of the Highlands and the interaction between Egan and Breena. Breena was a great FMC - she was strong as sassy. Loved it!

This is a sensual Scottish romance.
Breena is a 25 year-old young woman who lost her parents at age 6 and was raised by her wise grandmother. Breena comes from a family of healers…and witches. They have been good witches, but she hides this part of her nature because of the prejudices of others and the dangers disclosure presents.

Until very recently Breena thought her father was dead. Now she has learned that he may be alive an a prisoner of the chief of the Campbells who had her mother hung as a witch. Breena insisted on her uncle taking her to the Campbells land, the Isle of Coll, to secretly hunt for her father. Breena faces resistance and danger before even getting into the keep. She is ‘rescued’ by Egan, the debonair future chief of the Dunbar Clan, who helps her gain entrance and introduction to The Campbell.

Egan is enchanted but puzzled by this young woman. She has introduced her companion as her father, but something doesn’t ring true to her story. Egan is already having to walk a fine line as he is there to confront the vile Campbell chief over the death of some of the Dunbar men. It doesn’t help that he has to worry about Breena and her secrets as she sneaks around the keep.

Egan has been directly instructed by his father not to instigate a war between the Dunbar clan and the Campbell clan. Egan is also keenly aware that he is expected to marry a woman of high blood, not a common born woman like Breena. How much is Egan is willing to risks to help this woman who has ensnared his interest? And how far will he go to protect her?

The story pulled me in and I basically liked the characters and the touch of magic. I also enjoyed the underlying story but not the extra drawn-out sensual scenes. I could sense the chemistry without the extensive scenes and flowery descriptions to draw it out. Breena really seemed like a younger character as it didn’t seem likely that she would remain unmarried at 25 and she was obsessed with secrets and insecurities. Romance readers who like the long build up and tension will likely enjoy this more than I did.

Audio Notes: Moira Quirk does a nice job with the narration. She provided distinct voices and fitting emotional energy. I was glad for the opportunity to listen to this historical romance.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and emotional tone of this book. The excellent narrator added to the experience of listening to the story.
The story itself was good; however, the pacing in the middle was slow.
It is worth working through to get to the end.
I would read more books by Roma Cordon!

Bewitching a Highlander is a delightful and romantic adventure set in perilous 1747 Scotland. Author Roma Cordon brings the reader back in time with authentic language and situations.

The protagonist, Breena, is a healer and a witch, a fact she must keep secret for her own safety. Despite the Witchcraft Act of 1735, fear and prejudice against witches remain. Breena's magical powers are limited to rituals in which she asks questions and attempts to divine the answers.

On a dangerous mission with her uncle, Breena meets the handsome and well-built Highlander, Egan. He soon offers her his assistance. Their mutual attraction is powerful and immediate, but as she is a low-born healer and he a future laird, they both understand from the start that a marriage between them is out of the question.

The engaging and twisty plot held my attention throughout. I highly recommend this book to readers of historical romance!

"Bewitching a Highlander is a delightful debut for Roma Cordon. She weaved a lovely romance with societal divides and secrets galore into a captivating tapestry. The novel's allure lies in the enchanting love story that blooms between characters from disparate backgrounds. Their fight for justice amidst evil lairds and gruesome murders from the past lends depth to an immersive world of secrets and intrigue. We meet characters, bound by their shared determination, and are rendered with an authenticity that plucks at my heartstrings. If you're in it for another happily ever after, then this one's for you.

Bewitching A Highlander is a love story for me. This is a Scottish historical romance with fantasy undertones. (For Outlander fans). I couldn't believe that there was an actual Witchcraft Act enacted into law!
I laughed, I cried, as I read. It's really worth the read.

Thank you netgalleu for this opportunity.

2.5 stars. It was a good story, the characters were likeable, but I was disappointed with the lack of magic. The heroine is worried about being exposed as a witch but she didn't do much magical in the story at all. If you're looking for some fantasy this isn't the book to read. The story was predictable. It was sort of instalove, but the characters did have time to get to know each other so it made the "sacrifices" they were willing to make for each other more believable.

Bewitching a Highlander by Roma Cordon is about Breena, a base-born healer and witch, and Egan, a future Clan Chief. This falls into the Scottish Highlands historical romance genre, which is a prolific one. The two main characters share a strong attraction and find themselves both visiting the Campbell Clan. Despite the potential conflict it could have caused with the Campbells, Egan discovered the reason Breena was visiting the Campbells and insisted on helping to accomplish her goal and placing her family under his protection. The love story evolved from there. I listened to this in audiobook form and liked the story and the narration. The narrator was able to provide distinct voices for various characters and read the book in the expected Scottish Brogue. It was a good way to experience this story. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical Scottish romance as it is a pretty decent representation of the genre, I would give this book 3.5⭐️s. I am voluntarily submitting this honest review after listening to an advanced complementary copy of this audiobook thanks to Netgalley and CamCat Books.

Witchy and mysterious. Breena has come to the Campbell lands to find her father who was imprisoned 12 years ago and her mother burned as a witch. Eagan is trying to keep the peace with the Campbells but finds himself drawn to Breena. The Campbells are definitely hiding something. The keep is a mess, the food barely edible, the clan is terrified of healers, and the Lairds illegitimate brothers wife take deathly ill.

There is a lot going on, a lot of secrets but underlying it all is the bond growing between Eagan and Breena. It's a fun read with an enjoyable storyline and strong female character.

I enjoyed the story, it was a fun kinda historical, kinda fantasy romance set on the Scottish highlands. I think it sits more towards historical than fantasy, but there is enough there that it's worth mentioning both genres.

Light spice.
The steamy scenes are well written, and not overly indulgent or raunchy. Overall, it was fun!

The story was a 3.5 star for me that i will round up to 4 for the stars. I have a love hate reaction with the narration. Loved the accent work, and I understood the narrator perfectly but I had a hard time with the pacing. I literally listened to this entire audio book at 1.5 - 1.75 speed because the low, lulling tone of voice and slow speaking speed was hard for me to pay attention to. The voice acting was good. The narrator sounded good and clear, I'm sure some listeners will love the slow speaking speed and tone but it was a struggle for me until I turned up the speed.

4.5⭐️
This was a Highlander romance that I listened to and let me tell you, Moira Quirk narrated it and she did a fabulous job. She was perfect and just right for this story.
I fell in love with the story and all the characters. The chemistry was there and I enjoyed the intensity of the romance. An open door romance, not to spicy and had a little bit of mystery and battle.
I recommend if you love historical romance.

4.25

Historical Scottish Romance with a dash of magic. From the title, I did go in expecting a tad bit more of a fantasy element. As long as you go in knowing this is more a traditional historical there will be no disappointment. I liked it! Would rec the audiobook!

Light spice.

The story was a 4 star for me, the audio was excellent. Loved all the accent work, so I bumped it up to 4.25!

Welcome to 1700’s Scotland. The reader is totally immersed in the setting throughout the whole book. You can practically hear the bagpipes playing. The couple, Breena and Egan were so drawn together, but knew logically they were in such different social classes. This is a slow burn that had a fantastic payoff. Historical, mystical, a mystery rolled in… it had it all and kept you turning the pages. As an Outlander fan, I couldn’t get enough! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed reading this historic romance set in the highlands, likely in the late 1700's from context clues. Breena is a healer and a witch searching for her missing father. Egan is the heir to the Dunbar Clan, who agrees to help her, even though he knows she's keeping secrets.

I really enjoyed the history woven into this novel as well as the slow build of the romance. There are also several plot twists to keep the reader entertained. The only part I didn't enjoy was the one plot twist in the end that was overly convenient for Breena and Egan. It nullified the majority the couple's struggle throughout the book. I also was able to guess ahead of time that it would happen, so it wasn't even a surprise. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable read. I'd recommend it for any fans of historical romance.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

If you are into an immersive Scottish historical fiction romance, this is the book for you. To the point that it felt like the insertion of Scottish words was overdone and felt contrived. The character development was a bit flat.

This is the first time is listening to this author. And it was great. The narrator was excellent too. This ticked all the appropriate boxes for a highlander historical romance but this has so much more. First Cordon's vocabulary and word usage were excellent. Now, I hate when authors throw out big words just to show off their vocabulary, not so with Cordon. Her usage was well chosen and effective. The characters had pleasant depth and the story was riveting and kept my interest very well. Excellent historical fiction.

An absolutely fascinating read/listen! The narrator had a beautiful and engaging accent. I was extremely impressed by the dedication to period-relevant terms. While this isn't my typical style of romance novels, I very much enjoyed it and would read more from this author in the future. My only qualm was the amount of characters sometimes had me wondering who a certain person was, but that could simply be my own preference. Overall a wonderful book!

I have not read a story about the Scottish Highlands in quite sometime. I actually used to read this genre a lot back in the day! Here we are reading a historical Scottish romance with a touch of fantasy. A very small touch, like a sprinkling of fantasy.

In this story we have two main characters which are the love interests, Breena and Egan. Brenna and Egan are polar opposites and due to the customs of the time are not even a remote possibility as a marriage match. Breena is low born, a healer and from a clan of witches. Egan is the son of clan chief and future leader himself who is expected to marry someone of equal birth. Breena is also a strong willed young woman who doesn't always take the easy path. She has just discovered her father could be alive and she manages to "sneak" into the Campbell camp (a rival and horrid clan) to try and find her father who has been imprisoned for 19 years. During the entry to said camp one of the guards gets feisty and aggressive attacking her uncle and trying to take advantage of Breena. Enter Egan who comes to the rescue of the group and this is how he enters the life of Breena. Shenanigan's ensue and the rest of the story happens.

On the fantasy aspect we see Breena do a couple of spells and some divination, but it is only a handful of times and that is the extent of the witchiness. We do learn about the witch act of the time where they persecute witches and burn them at the stake. Which is absolutely barbaric, I can 't believe people are so stinking horrid. Mostly we have the rescue of the father, the escape, the learning of family secrets and the love story of Breena and Egan. There are a couple of sexy time scenes, but they are fairly tasteful and the spice level of this book is pretty low. It is kind of a slow-burn romance as both characters are fighting their attraction to one another.

The narrator did a fantastic job with all of the accents, keeping a great pace and conveying all of the emotions of each character. If you enjoy a good historical slow-burn romance with then this one is worth the read!
