This biography is great for young readers. It does a good job covering difficult topics for young readers. It is a bit long for kids, but in chunks it would be really good.

This is a great biography for young students to access and learn about an important person in Missouri history. I liked that there are bolded words and a glossary in the back for more difficult words that can be used in discussions. I will be adding this to my classroom collection for sure!

As a non American I admit I didn’t know much about Maya Angelou, expect that she was a poet. Boy she was so much more than that! What a life she had, and what a brave woman she was!

I’d recommend this biography to any young readers wanting to learn about this impressive woman. The text is easy to understand and her childhood trauma is written as « she was hurt » so it leaves it to you to dive more into what happened to her with your child if you want.
The illustrations are also gorgeous! Definitely recommend!

This book is a pitch-perfect biography of Ms. Angelou for grades 3-5. I actually very much enjoyed it so it might be a good choice for a quick read for 6th grade as well.
This book impressed me on so many levels. The writing is engaging and easily digestible. The illustrations lend themselves nicely to the text and overall arc of the story and I love how the author presented all aspects of Ms. Angelou's life in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner.
