Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Lonely Hearts Beach Club by Amy Miller in exchange for my honest review and opinion. This was a story about grief and I wasn't 100% certain I would enjoy it but I absolutely loved this book. It touches on so many things besides grief like family, love and even heartbreak. This was absolutely a wonderful touching story and I can't wait to read more by this author in the future.

I enjoyed this a bit more than I expected.
While I wouldn't say there was much romance, love was an underlying theme through.
Love of family, love of friends, and some romantic love as well.
I loved the idea of the beach chairs for hire and the multitude of characters and connections that brought about.

A lovely story that often left me with a lump in my throat. The idea of booking a deckchair to meet new people is such a fabulous idea. I so wanted to book an hour myself. A beautiful setting with fantastic characters just results in a wonderful book.

The Lonely Hearts Beach Club is a heart-warming drama that explores family relationships and travels throughout grief. Hattie loses her husband, Jesse, in a split second, and she falls into a depression. Olivia is at a loss for how to help her mother, Hattie as she struggles with her grief. Hattie and Jessie spent their days on the beach, and Olivia feels that this can be the way to help Hattie with the grief process. Olivia prepares an advertisement to offer Jesse’s chair as a way to provide companionship and healing to Hattie, and whoever “rents” the chair for the day. Many interesting individuals “rent” the chair and share interesting tidbits, advice, and stories with Hattie. Is Hattie truly the only one being helped by this experiment; definitely not. The characters in this story are realistic and it accurately portrays a theme that many people are facing these days; that of having to care for your own children and your parents. Other themes explored in this novel included grief, loneliness, and family relationships. The characters and plot of this story struck a chord in me, as I can directly relate to the themes of grief and caretaking. The characters were easy to identify with and I enjoyed the character development and getting to know each of them, and their role in the plot. Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is a moving and heartfelt story about love, loss, grief, and how to move forward. Hattie's husband dies trying to save a boy from drowning. Hattie is lost without him and is lonely. Olivia comes up with the brilliant idea to put up a flyer advertising deck chair for hire. This way people can come and sit with Hattie and talk with her and hopefully she will make a friend. This was such a beautiful concept and I liked all the diverse characters that came and spent time with Hattie.

This was an enjoyable read. I especially like the fact that Oliva took great interest consoling Hattie and help with her grief. We should all have people like Olivia in our time of need, especially when dealing with a loss loved one.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC. I highly recommend this book.

I’m not crying, you are. This one pulled at my heartstrings. Grief, what ifs and second chances through the lovely characters of Hattie and Olivia. I really liked the premise of renting out Hattie’s husband’s summer beach chair to help Hattie accept her new life after her husband’s unexpected death. I’m a firm believer that everyone you meet in life can teach you something and this one embraces that as Hattie talks to everyone and she slowly learns to handle her grief. So many great side characters with stories of their own.

I really enjoyed watching the women adapt and grow after discussing love and loss with their family, friends and strangers. After all the struggles there was also hop. While the cover may give beach read vibes, this story offers some sage advice to all that read it.

Hattie is heartbroken after losing her second husband. Her daughter, Olivia, desperately wants to help her mother overcome her grief. The solution - a deckchair for hire.

The Lonely Hearts Beach Club is a cute summer read. The plot is original, the characters are likable, and I love that while Olivia is trying to help her mom, she learns so much about herself in the process.

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this cute summer read in exchange for my honest review.

In this book we meet Hattie who is understanbly heartbroken after the sudden death of her husband. She has absolutely no idea of how to carry on or what to do with her self and her life now that he has gone. Hattie's daughter Olivia notices how withdrawn from everything her mum. The only thing that she seems to be able to do each day is to take two deckchairs to the beach and to sit and stare at the ocean alone loosing hours of the day. So Olivia decides to do something in order to help her mum. By putting an advertisement in the local cafe asking for people to go and fill the empty deckchair next to her mum. For a little matter to try and heal her broken heart.
Olivia doesn't think that there would be many responses if any at all. But to her great surprise the is an influx of replies with many eclectic responses and so the lonely hearts beach club was formed. Each visitor that Hattie receives in the deckchair next to her is just the destractiin that she needs. Taking her mind away from her own worries and life to concentrate on that of a stranger's.

A beautiful idea, with a heartwarming and uplifting storyline. This book was exactly what I needed.

Thank you Bookouture for inviting me to be part of Books on Tour. “The Lonely Hearts Beach Club” by Amy Miller is a moving story about hope and second chances.

Hattie’s husband passed away and her daughter Olivia sees how her mom is so lonely. She decides to rent out the empty deck chair next to her mom for company. I enjoyed all of Hattie’s visitors. It was so awful to see Olivia take such wonderful care of her mother. This is a multigenerational story that will tug at your heartstrings. I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just suggest you read this yourself. It was my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last!

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This is such a wonderful book about loss, grief, heartbreak, friendship, family, love, life, and second chances. There is so much depth in all of these that the book breaks and fills your heart at the same time. Each of the characters were strong, well developed, and had a place in the book, whether or not you liked them. It’s a book that really makes you think and it makes you want to reach out to those you love to tell them that you love them. There’s also a theme in here about protecting your children and doing whatever it takes to protect them, whether or not that decision is the “right” one. As a mother, this really resonated with me as I struggle daily hoping that I’m making the right decisions for my kids. There is just so much to love about this book, and I don’t want to give anything away. That’s why it’s best if you just go read it!

A book full of surprises, warmth, laughter and love. Masterpiece!

Olivia’s mother, Hattie, was lonely after her husband passed away. Hattie took the empty deckchair and placed next to her at the beach every morning.

Olivia could bear to see this and she came up with a plan. She decided to put an advertisement on the window in a local cafe….

ONE Deckchair for hire! Must bring good conversation and have own flask.

If you see this advert, will you apply?

After Olivia placed this adverts, lots of locals applied. She should feel happy that her plan was a success to cheer Hattie up. But now, she’s worried that her buried secrets was going to expose….

The author brought the characters alive.I can’t express how much I love Hattie and also Olivia. An emotional story but makes you keep turning pages.

The publication of The Lonely Hearts Beach Club, came at the same time as I was watching ‘Britain’s Best Beach Huts’ and I found myself comparing the ones they highlighted on TV, with Hattie’s beach hut in the book. Hattie’s won every time. Who wants a beach hut that is actually a sauna, or one that costs half a million pounds?! Nope, give me a proper, old-fashioned hut on a promenade any day of the week!

After her husband passes away, Hattie needs some company, despite protesting that she wants to be left alone, and her daughter Olivia has the best idea! Let’s rent out the deckchair in the beach hut, which has been left behind by Jesse, Hattie’s husband. However, advertising the deckchair opens more cans of worms, both for Hattie, Olivia and Olivia’s daughter Beau. Can past secrets stay in the past or not?

The Lonely Hearts Beach Club is a beautiful story, sad and touching, but also funny. The characters that Hattie meets will make you smile, I promise. I would love to sit and chat with Hattie on the beachfront, and this is making me wonder whether there are people like her where I live. Just whiling away the time on their deckchairs, waiting for someone to talk to. I might have to investigate!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review The Lonely Hearts Beach Club.

Olivia watches her mother Hattie withdraw from life after her husband's sudden death. Then she has the idea to rent out a deck chair for lonely hearts to join her mother for conversation. It really makes you feel for the older generation and makes you wonder how loneliness is affecting them. I believe if everyone has a smile and a cheery hello for the elderly it can make the world of difference. While reading this book I teared up often but in the end it left me with a little smile. The characters face issues that we all may face at some stage in our lives and it's told with kindness, compassion and humour. A beautifully written story that I relished.

Oh my word I absolutely adored this book. It completely reeled me in from the very first chapter. It brought out all the emotions in me as I was reading I laughed and I cried on numerous occasions. I loved the characters and I had a favourite in Hattie. She was wonderful. This would be a perfect holiday read and it’s one that i whole heartedly recommend. 5⭐️

EXCERPT: 'We're almost there now,' said Olivia. 'Do your feet hurt? Are you alright?'
The closer they got to the beach hut, the tenser Hattie became.
'Since you ask, no, I'm not alright,' Hattie said. It's not as if the Hoover broke, is it? Is anyone alright after killing their husband?'
Olivia's stomach twisted. A man walking his Labrador nearby stopped walking and gaped at Hattie. The Labrador quietly studied a 'No Dogs on the Beach' sign.

ABOUT 'THE LONELY HEARTS BEACH CLUB': ONE DECKCHAIR FOR HIRE! Must good conversation, own flask, and one tried and tested tip to help a lonely heart learn to love again…

Olivia ’s heart is breaking watching her mother Hattie withdraw after her husband’s sudden death. He was Hattie’s whole world and without him, she’s never been lonelier. Every morning, Hattie pulls a pair of tired old deckchairs from her equally tired-looking beach hut and places them looking out to sea. Seeing her mother sit next to the empty chair, Olivia comes up with a plan.

One deckchair for hire! Must bring good conversation and have own flask.

When she places the advert in the window of a local café, responses from other lonely locals looking for company start flooding in – which only makes Hattie withdraw even further. Olivia is so busy trying to bring the light back to Hattie’s life that she doesn’t notice the darkness creeping into her own. And as news of the advert spreads, Olivia realises her long-buried secret is in danger of coming to light…

Can Olivia convince Hattie to let someone fill the empty deckchair and bring a smile back to Hattie’s life? And when Olivia is confronted with the demons in her past, is this her chance to finally move on – and to re-open her heart to love…?

MY THOUGHTS: The Lonely Hearts Beach Club is a read that had me laughing . . . and crying. It is warm and witty with just a touch of tragedy and a secret that is revealed when Olivia is trying to do something nice for Hattie.

I loved the characters! Hattie and Jesse were a hoot. Olivia is a solo mum struggling with . . . well, everything!: a teenage daughter intent on shutting her out of her life; a mother who no longer has any interest in life; her own crushed dreams; and a secret she has kept to herself for years.

This story tugged at my heartstrings. I was rooting for Olivia the whole way through. She is so concerned for everyone else's happiness, and so busy helping her mum and trying to be there for her daughter Beau (not always successfully!) that she has no time for herself, for her dreams. I so wanted her to have her own HEA.

And then, there's THE SECRET! Olivia made a decision many years ago, primarily to protect her daughter, but it's a secret that Beau unknowingly exposes when she is trying to help her Mum publicize the 'Deckchair for Hire' scheme to raise money for a local charity Olivia volunteers with.

This is a multi-layered read. It deals with grief, multi-generational mother-daughter relationships, loneliness in the aged, psychological abuse, and the need to make time for ourselves. It involves facing up to our pasts and allowing ourselves to see the possibilities for the future. There is a little romance, a lot of humor, and yes, you will need a box of tissues.

I enjoyed this and will be looking for more from this author. The Kindle edition of The Lonely Hearts Beach Club has the added bonus of the opening chapters of another of Amy Miller's books - The Day My Husband Left.

Hattie is completely heartbroken after husband suddenly dies. She has no idea how to continue on in life. Her daughter Olivia see’s her mother Hattie totally withdraw from life and seems to have no interest in anything. Every day Hattie places two beach chairs on the seashore, she spends the day staring at the sea…alone. Olivia decides to put up an advertisement in the local café asking for someone to fill the empty chair next to her mom. So many responses to the advertisement with an eclectic array of responses and so the lonely hearts beach club is formed. With each visitor, Hattie develops the friendships that she is longing for and exactly the people she needs.

The Lonely Hearts Beach Club written by Amy Miller was heartwarming and a wonderful read. I enjoyed this story and I especially liked the interest Olivia took in her mother’s life. She focused on what would make her mother happy, while she was working through her own grief. The friends that answered the advertisement and sat in the beach chair to tell their story were an interesting group of people. They seemed to be exactly who Hattie needed at the time. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it.

This was an interesting idea and a new way to tackle a story about grief. It handled it with finesse and tact and lots of love. It was not overly complicated and gut wrenching and there is grief dealt with in several different ways.
Olivia is ready to leave her life and move to Dublin with her daughter, Beau, when her stepfather Jesse suddenly dies, leaving her mother, Hattie, completely and utterly devastated and lost. Jesse and Hattie had a beach hut where they spent their days and now that Jesse is gone, Olivia gets the idea to rent out his chair so that her mom might make some new friends and the money will go to charity.
In the meantime, Oscar, Olivia’s long lost first love and Beau’s father comes back to town, only Olivia never told him about Beau and never told Beau who her father was so when he comes to town to try to reconnect with Olivia and to establish a relationship with Beau after seeing a picture of them in the paper, things get super complicated super fast.
I liked watching Hattie work through her sadness by opening up to the new people who rent out to the chair and would have liked a little more of that and a little less of a Oscar and Olivia but overall it was a good solid read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

A compelling and heartwarming read about the bond between mothers and daughters and how they overcome the grief they are experiencing. Olivia comes up with the idea to rent a deck chair, inviting people to sit with her mother Hattie in an effort to help her deal with her grief. But it’s not only Hattie who needs help dealing with her grief, as Olivia struggles with events of the past.
