I don't think I need to say that I absolutely adored this book but I'll say it anyway. I loved this book! I have adored Jaigirdar's other books and with this one I have a new autobuy author!
This book was so sweet and cozy. This gave me the same warm happy feeling as watching The Great British Bake Off. This book also had an amazing romance and family relationship. I love a book with happy families and this book filled me with so much joy.
The TLDR is this book is just as sweet and irresistible as a dozen donuts!

Huge thank you to Dreamscape Media & NetGalley for this arc. I love the narrator and the character! From the love, sweets and drama. At one point I didn’t love kris but half way through I was hoping they would get together. Well back together! The twist I wasn’t expecting at all had me more engaged with shireen and her world. 5 stars across the board. Sapphic love triangle, brown powerful women, second chance romance and a big competition!

I ended up going through this book feeling pretty neutral about it. The biggest problem was that I went into this book with wrong expectations. I expected a sweet romance. The descriptions sells it as such and the cover definitely made me expect me something very sweet. However, there was a lot of tension throughout most of the story.

The wrong expectations made me tumble head first into some tropes I really don't like: Love triangles, second chance romance and miscommunication.

Shireen has a tense relationship with almost everyone around her. She struggles heavily with expressing what she is thinking and feeling and so do the other character. I couldn't enjoy any of her interactions with other characters, which to me in a romance book is essential. But to be honest, I'm not even sure I would say this was a romance. This book was about Shireen and her road through the baking show and the romantic bits were just a part of that. Because there was so much bad tension between the characters, the vibe for a romantic scene was not set. But also her friendship with Fatima did not convince me.

Of course I expected the book to tackle issues of fatphobia and racism. And I really liked the way this book handled it. Shireen was a great narrator for the messages the book wanted to convey.

I do not think this was a bad book. I think this could be a great book for many people. However, I do not think this was the right book for me. The balance of what the story focused on did not work for me, add to that the tropes I do not like, it just wasn't the right experience. I do have to say, this book made me very hungry and I want t0 try all the Bengali dishes mentioned.

The narrator was fine. The enthusiasm and intonations were a little wrong sometimes, that did throw me off. I really enjoyed the accents. I definitely would have messed that up when I read it myself. Especially hearing "Gordon Ramsay" with a heavy Irish accent was amusing. Not to mention all the names, both Bengali and Irish, that I would not know how to pronounce.

The narrators of this audiobook were fantastic. I fell in love with these characters at the very beginning thanks to the awesome narrators.

I loved how this story involved a baking show, being a huge fan of The Great British Bake Off!

The characters in this story were so fun to hang with as they went through the competition.

Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this audiobook. This is my honest voluntary review.

I simply adored this. So many great messages about body acceptance, the impact our cultural background can have on food, and those sweet feelings of first love

Well that was a cute and punny book. I loved Adiba's writing style and all the different representation she had in this book. It was very needed. I'll def read more from Adiba.

I also loved the narrator. her different voices werent forced like some narrators. I'd love to hear more from her.

After reading "The Henna Wars" by Adiba Jaigirdar I realized that she is one of my favorite authors and I was therefore very happy that I had the opportunity to hear her new book in advance.

I had heard a lot about the story before it came out and I was very excited to see how it would be implemented.

What appealed to me the most was that the book was like British Bake Off but in Sapphic and with young people.

Lately I've often had a hard time when it comes to YA and I was afraid that I wouldn't find this book as good as I hoped it would in the end. Luckily, this didn't come true, because I really liked the book and it's now my second favorite book by Adiba!

The story follows Shireen Malik, who, after breaking up with Chris, gets the news that she will be taking part in the new TV show. As if taking part wasn't exciting enough, one of her comrades-in-arms is none other than her ex-girlfriend Chris.

I really liked the different representations that ran through the entire story.

Shireen is a very strong-willed main character who is very self-reflective. It was exciting to read how she dealt with the various confrontations. At times she was a bit hasty when it came to making decisions, but that only made the story more authentic.

I also really liked the audio book narrator and she fitted well into the story. Her way of speaking was very pleasant to listen to.

I really enjoyed listening to this book and to dive into the world of baking.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this Audibook ARC!

4.5 ⭐️

I thought it was super cute and I would have been obsessed with this in high school and I wish I had this book back then.

Adiba Jaigirdar has single handedly reminded me how much I love cleaver chapter titles! The chapter titles in this book are mostly, if not all, puns that relate to the coming chapter and I think it was a small little detail that really just elevated the book; as it plays into Shireen’s knack and love for puns and it was such a nice touch!

This book was so fun! It follows Shireen, a fat, queer, Bangladeshi/Irish Teen, who applies for a TV baking competition in hopes of winning to not only make her dreams a reality but to bring money and attention to her parent’s Donut Shop. Things get complicated when Shireen gets there and finds Chris, the daughter of her parent’s shop’s biggest rival and her ex girlfriend… Shireen also befriends one of her fellow competitors, Niamh and things heat up between the two of them, causing the trio to have tensions you could cut with their chefs knife... Will there be betrayal in the Kitchen? Who will win the competition? Will Shireen‘s Parent’s shop be ok in the end?

I really adore the way Jaigirdar writes the connection between characters, her characters are all well defined so the relationships between them are also beautifully defined. Particularly I love the relationship between Shireen and her best friend, their relationship felt so realistic to that age range; although best friends, they argued and didn’t get along at every second of the book and their arguments felt true to that time in life. I also adored the way the love between Shireen and Chris was depicted; although their relationship evolves and changes over the course of the book, even when they aren’t currently together or even talking they still have such an obvious place in each others hearts and I think the way it is written was very beautiful and relatable especially to queer kids.

<spoiler> Niamh </spoiler> however can get fucked, she was not only a toxic friend but just a bad person, she was cause for suspicion from the start but the further into the book you get the worse she gets

What a fun book! I loved the punny chapter titles and the names of the donuts at You Drive me Glazy. I got a giggle out of the judges names at the competition as well. The premise was cute and I love all the baking competition shows so that part really drew my attention. There were some parts that felt hard to believe about being on one of those shows but I decided to suspend disbelief to enjoy the book. I realize the author had to build tension or conflict somehow but at times it felt too forced or unbelievable. I felt like the tougher topics of racism and fatphobia were well handled and definitely appreciated the author’s note at the end about their own struggles. Definitely a great summer read for the beach or cottage!

my first adiba jaigirdar book yayyyy! i’ve been wanting to read one of her books for soooo long and here i am! it was amazing and now i’m craving donuts really badly. i loved how mature shireen felt compared to other YA protagonists, even in the way this story resolved, she showed growth compared to the start of the novel. i think the ending was on point, if you know, you know. fatima, her bestie and both her love interests, chris and niamh were really well written as well, my favorite being fatima, like girly wasn’t taking anyone’s sh!t. the family relationship was just adorable to read about, we always love supportive parents! this book was a very feel good moment tho it does touches upon heavier topics like racism and fatphobia but not including them in this story about a reality tv show would’ve been a little strange and they are not at the forefront of the story. this story warmed my heart and I REALLY WANT A DONUT NOW! 4.5⭐️

Mini synopsis: it’s the first ever Junior Irish Baking Show and Shireen is determined to win! She has what it takes, I mean she’s been working in her parents donut shop forever, coming up with punny names & tasty treats. While on the show, she meets a new girl, makes up with an ex, & discovers herself.

This book was so wholesome & sweet, full of baking puns. I loved the competition parts, think great British bake off. Complete with all the dramas of being timed to complete treats, a nice judge, an annoying host, and I mean Gordon Ramsey judge. I liked watching Shireen grow not only as a person but also as a baker. While this is a romance, the competition takes more of a forefront in compared to the relationship. I all enjoyed the brewings of a second chance romance in competition with a new crush situation. There was a little bit of a twist toward the end that I did not see coming!

I really liked this book. It has comedy (adored all the food puns), drama (whoever likes GBBO, check it out!) and serious topics (social media can be the worst). The narrator made it an easy listening, so I got through the book in a couple of walks. A definite recommendation!

Gah this book was so cute and also addicting! I feel like most chapters left me wanting to just wanting to read one more, which as we all know is never one haha.

I loved this story, I loved the concept. I loved all the relationships and the ride they took you on. I loved that it touched on important things and was extremely well done. I really really loved this book! The narrator too was exceptional!

If you love donuts, bake off shows, lgbtqia+, ya then you’ll want to read this one!

Y'all, you know how hard I go for queer baking books, especially when the baking is realistic and spot on, but when it's also FAT queer baking rep I absolutely lose my mind. Can we have a moment of appreciation for the cover with a fat Bangladeshi queer girl front and freaking center please?!! 👏 I'm actually obsessed.

Anyway, I decided to take my beloved copy to work with me and take pictures with my own baked goods and bakery cases. #BakeWithPride

Moving on, The do's and donuts of Love is a super cute sapphic YA baking competition book that will give you a hug while also making you hungry. Shireenis just a girl trying to help out her parents donut shop by helping get some exposure while also working towards her own dream of taking over/owning her own bakery. She wasn't necessarily ready to deal with the stress from the baking competition while also working in competition with her ex-girlfriend and family rival and potentially having a new crush on another contestant.

There's a heavy dose of friends to dating to enemies to friends again??? There are rival family donut shops. There is a cute girl who can also bake coming up around the corner. There are wonderful discussions of both anti-fatness and racism.

Honestly I really really loved this book and cannot recommend it enough! It has my Fat Queer Baker seal of approval 💜💜

Thank you so much to @coloredpagesblogtours and @fiercereads for including me in this tour and for the finished copy. A big thanks to both @librofm and @netgalley for advanced audiobook copies.

A sweet, delicious read to devour this summer! Fans of Adiba's previous novels will want to run, not walk to the shops to pick this up because it is an absolute treat.
If you, like me, appreciate getting to see brown girls be chaotic and messy and perhaps caught in a love triangle (à la Devi in NEVER HAVE I EVER), and especially if you've been known to turn on THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF to relax after a long day - this is just the book for you.
I appreciated the way Jaigirdar masterfully balanced out the lightearted, quick and fun plot with the more serious discussions she introduced while exploring Shireen's experience as a fat woman of colour in Ireland, and how othering it can be to have fatphobia and racism thrown at you for daring to exist in a public sphere.
Cannot recommend this enough!

I really enjoyed this book, I was a fan of Adiba Jaigirdar's other works, and was highly anticipating this especially as someone who also enjoyes baking. This book delivered what it promises: cute sapphic romance, baking competition, and an endless supply of food and sweets and desserts descriptions that will make you go hungry.

This was a cute story about two teens (Shireen and Chris) working at their parent's rival donut shops. The teens have a secret romance (Romeo & Juliet vibes without the sad ending) and both end up on a baking show as teammates, after their break-up. While the story was predictable, it was a fun and quick read.

Priya Ayyar did a great job narrating this novel and I will definitely look for books narrated by Priya in the future.

This was so stinking sweet (pun intended)
watching cooking competition shows is one of my favorite things to do when I'm not reading so it's always a bonus when I can combine both! The book was able to shed light on some very important issues while also keeping the atmosphere light and fun. 100% recommend getting deserts before reading this cause I am craving a donut so bad. Really enjoyed it! Would recommend!

Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group and Adiba Jaigirdar for providing me with a copy of the Audiobook for The Dos and Donuts of Love.

4.5 Stars, obviously rounded up because this is great!

What an amazing story. I loved this book. I loved Shireen so much. I loved the authors note at the end and it might be worth reading that at the very start to set the positive vibes for this book. I love The Great British Bake Off sooooo much and this was a great capturing of this reality baking competition platform in a novel.

The way that this story plays with so many topics and cultural issues is great. I live for the positive rep of fat/plus sized bodies and queer-normative families. I completely agree that we need to be presenting these world as the norm, especially in YA content. No body should have to deal with the fatphobia and homophobia that the world throws at them - particularly children and teens - and this story creates a lovely space free of both.

However, there is a heavy serve of racism delivered both from online nationalism trolls and individuals close to Shireen. In Australia, we have access to the iconic season 8 Bachelor moment of 'Unfortunately, Zoe Claire has taken ill... and racist'. Same vibes, just as stupid.

Cute, fun, and lighthearted YA romance following Shireen who is selected as a contestant on a new baking competition reality TV show. There is so much great respresentation in this book and it tackles the important topics of racism and fatphobia really well. I also loved the chapter titles as dessert-themed puns! I definitely recommend this read!

Thank you Netgalley for providing a digital ARC.
