I have read several books by Daniel Hurst and this was sadly, among my least favourite. The story is told from two perspectives: the mother and the daughter and I did not find either of them particularly compelling. I will continue to seek out other books by Hurst but if you are new to his work, perhaps select from his other titles for your next read.

Wow! Not going to lie, everyone saw this coming, but that definitely doesn't takeaway from the story. This books is super fast paced and engrossing.
Seriously, the daughter Ellie drove me crazy. She acted like a school age child and the mom let her amount to nothing. Then she meets a guy online who lives 5,000 miles away and decides its a great idea to meet up. Thank goodness she brought her mom to save her since she wouldn't have been able to do it.
Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Oh 👏🏼 my 👏🏼 gosh 👏🏼 This book was absolutely AMAZING!! I got it as an ARC via NetGalley and I loved every second of it! The twists and turns were a little predictable but not so much so that the story and it’s ending were evident from the jump. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful thriller!

An enjoyable, fast paced thriller. Although I did figure out the twists quite early on, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. Ellie was very selfish and I did not like her at all and I do feel like Dawn should have stood up to her more. The ending has left it open for a sequal which I'm hoping is in the works. The narration was very good also.

My Daughter's Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst Narrated by Harrie Dobby and Tamsin Kennard was another brilliant and addictive thriller from start to finish and I really enjoyed this audiobook. One this I really enjoyed about this book was, I did not see all of the twists and turns especially as it kept me sitting on the edge of my chair! I didn't want this audiobook to finish....Which to me makes it an excellent audiobook.
Only 6hrs and 42min The narrators were Brilliant from Tamsin Kennard and Harrie Dobby. I loved they way they bought this audiobook together.
I highly recommend all of Daniel Hurst books they do not disappoint.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the audiobook.

Ellie and her Mom Dawn fly to LA from England to meet Ellie's on line boyfriend in person. Dawn gets some odd vibes .
Narration by Harrie Dobby and Tamsin Kennard was very good.

I was looking forward to a gripping and suspense-filled story, but I finished this audio book waiting for the curveball or twist to happen. I was rooting for the excitement to kick in, but unfortunately for me, it never arrived. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy (audiobook) in return for an honest review.
Preferred listening speed: 1.25x
Narration: Excellent storytelling
Character Development & Reliability: Simple characters with little complexity, mostly predictable
Plot: an online relationship that had red flags from the beginning, a nervous mom and a suspicious son/father
Entertainment Value: fair, could have been much more entertaining and suspenseful at many junctures throughout the story

Ellie knows her Mom won't be thrilled when she shares that her new boyfriend lives half a world away.....but she doesn't know that her Mom will eventually agree to let her visit him, as long as she's allowed to come with. Willing to do whatever her mother says to make the trip happen, Ellie and her Mom head to American to meet the man of Ellie's dreams..... but it quickly turns into a nightmare.
I really loved this book. It jumps right in and holds your attention the whole time. I especially loved how the author did a brilliant job of making the mom a super believable person-- she doesn't fly off the handles and tell her daughter she can't go, and she doesn't just throw her hands up and let her to whatever she wants, either. She carefully considers things, including her own finances and time, and finds a safe way to make it work. I absolutely loved that. It's consistent in the character through the whole book and I really appreciated it.
I also really loved the way it builds in America and the twists at the end.
Super well done!

I typically love an occasional popcorn thriller but sadly, this is not one I enjoyed. The author is churning out books at a rapid pace, and perhaps needs to slow down and get his mojo back.
There was a lot of telling, very little showing. It was obvious from the beginning where this was going as literally every plot point was telegraphed from the beginning. The one surprise twist in the epilogue wasn't enough to save this story. It was too little, too late.
The only ones who had no idea what was happening in this story were the two idiotic main characters, a mother and daughter. If a character is stupid, they'd better be sweetly naive and endearing. These two are neither. They too stupid and annoying to survive and are strong contenders for the Darwin Award.
I'm a huge fan of the author's earlier books and will continue to hope he goes back to what he does best.

Absolutely loved this book! I never saw the twists and turns coming. It kept you on your toes and was a very easy read. I will read more books from this author for sure!

I absolutely love Daniel Hurst books and did one did not disappoint.
This is my first audio book and i really enjoyed it.. i loved the choice of narration and felt they fit well with the characters.
This was packed with suspense and deceit.
I always find myself on the edge of my seat reading Daniel Hurst books.
You always think you have it figured out and then bam you are wrong!
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a twisty thriller.
Thankyou to Netgalley, the publisher and author for allowing me to read this ARC.
5/5 stars

Like all Daniel Hurst stories this was a very twisted one which I enjoyed but somehow it did not click like the others!
We meet Ellie who is still living at home with her mum at the age of 24. This changes when she meets Daryl online and they don't want to be without each other.
Since she lives in England and he in Los Angeles Ellie is determinded to go to the US.
Ellie's mum is overprotective since her husband died and decides to join her daughter despite her financial troubles.
Off they are to a huge adventure that sometimes got a little bit over the edge in my humble opinion.
Nethertheless a very entertaining story narrated by by Harrie Dobby, Tamsin Kennard
Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this advanced listening copy

This was a fun, fast paced thriller from Daniel Hurst.
I enjoyed the audio version of My Daughter’s Boyfriend. The story is about a middle aged mother, Dawn and her twenty something adult daughter whom still lives with her, Ellie. Suffering the loss of her father, Ellie is struggling to transition to adulthood. While Dawn’s friends’ children are getting on with their lives, moving out, advancing in their careers, Ellie is in a dead end job living at home. So when Ellie tells her mother about her American boyfriend that she met on line, Dawn is skeptical but so desperate to pull Ellie out of her funk, she agrees to accompany her daughter to California to meet her love interest.
Murder and mystery ensue. While the twists and turns could be predictable and sometimes you might cringe when Ellie gets herself into precarious situation after situation, I found the story enjoyable. For one thing, I loved the mother’s character Dawn. She was well written and the actor who narrated her voice did a great job. I enjoyed all her chapters. She even voiced the male roles, the boyfriend and his father. She did such a great job I could distinguish the two male voices. Ellie was narrated by a different actor. I didn’t love those parts as much. She was trying to come across as angsty, but it was a little too much. She seemed more like a petulant sixteen-year-old than an annoyed twenty something.
The ending left room for a sequel and I will be looking forward to that.

Thank you to NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review
Dawn's daughter Ellie is a hard to love child. At 24 Ellie has yet to figure out what she wants to do with her life beyond living at her mother's house rent free and waitressing at a restaurant. When Ellie falls in love with an American boy Daryl he seems too good to be true. . Living in LA with his widowed father Daryl seems to be searching for who he is just like Ellie. When the two love birds decide it's time to get together in person Dawn insists on coming along. When Dawn finds a secret lurking in a basement nobody will ever be the same.
In true Daniel Hurst fashion this is a fast paced quick thriller with a twist. While it wasn't my favorite read of the summer so far it was a good audiobook to listen to while driving. Any fan of Daniel Hurst knows his books are not to be taken as if in real life. The changing of different characters pov was great! The narrators do a great job keeping us entertained.

My daughter's boyfriend is a tense and suspenseful read. This was a wild ride and a really quick read and Daniel Hurst always has you on the edge of your seat. I loved how there is a sense of reality to this and how a lot of this can truly happen and also the mother daughter relationship is so raw and real. If you love fun, twisty reads that you can't put down then this is the book for you.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion, I really enjoyed this quick read. What would you do if you found out your daughter met someone online and was determined to travel across the world to meet in person? You know nothing about this man and really neither does your daughter. However, she is 24 yrs old and should be able to make her own decisions as she is an adult. Nope you do the only thing possible....you go with her. While you try to enjoy your first plane ride and your first trip to California you have that uncomfortable feeling that things just aren't what they seem. Then one day you find out you are exactly right!!! Enjoy!!!!

I love Daniel Hurst books, so was thrilled to get an ARC of this one!
As always with a Hurst book, “My Daughter’s Boyfriend,” was a quick, twisty, read! Told from the POVs of Dawn, the mother, and Ellie, her daughter, we get a full picture of what happens in this story.
This book centers around Ellie, and Dawn, a widow. While Dawn wishes Ellie would spread her wings and grow up, it’s clear she loves having her daughter around. When Ellie meets an American boy online, and decides to visit him in California, Dawn tags along to make sure her daughter is safe. In California, Dawn realizes there is something very disturbing about the boyfriend’s family.
I don’t want to give too much away, but what happens next kicks off a wild ride. This book is a page turner and I never lost interest. Out now for anyone who is interested!

This was a great story. As always, the author has created yet another well written tale. It had interesting, well developed characters. It was easy to get into and had the authors tell tale, shocking twist at the end. I listened to the audiobook and did like the narrator. I enjoyed reading this book. However, there were two issues for me . Firstly, this story was too predictable. Secondly, the twist was more like an oh right. Not the usual NO WAY or WOW ! Like I am used to by this author. I am still glad I read this book as it was interesting. It is just not his best book. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author.
Many thanks to the author and publishers for creating an enjoyable story.
The above review has already been placed on goodreads, waterstones, Google books, Barnes&noble, kobo, amazon UK where found and my blog https://ladyreading365.wixsite.com/website/post/my-daughter-s-boyfriend-by-daniel-hurst-bookouture-3-stars and my new blog https://ladyreading365.blogspot.com/2023/06/my-daughters-boyfriend-by-daniel-hurst.html under my name ladyreading365

My Daughter's Boyfriend was fast-paced and entertaining with characters so well developed I felt I knew them.
The story begins with frustrated mother, Dawn. Ellie is her twenty something daughter still living at home. She has a job she does not enjoy and is sullen much of the time, rarely leaving her room when not at work. Well the circumstances are unusual as Ellie's dad recently passed away, and Dawn is working herself to a frazzle in order provide for them both. Ellie, although not a spoiled kid, is being a brat to her mother. One day Dawn walks in Ellie’s room and discovers that Ellie has an internet boyfriend in the United States and they are planning on meeting in person very soon. Living in The UK, Ellie offers to go to the US for this meet up. Dawn is extremely uncomfortable with her daughter going on her own and unwisely to me, says she can go but only if accompanied my mom.
Dawn learns that Ellie's boyfriend Daryl, lives with his father, which eases Dawn’s mind just a bit. Still, red flags are going off everywhere as I listened to this mystery.
So, off to California they go, spending a lot of money that could have better gone to living expenses. Ellie is young, in love, and inexperienced and wants what she wants and even though her mother knows better, she allows this trip to happen to keep peace with her demanding daughter. They arrive and meet Daryl and his dad Harvey. The mother/wife is recently deceased which was a common bond for Ellie and Daryl. Harvey has a very nice home complete with a pool. Many things seem normal but many more things are completely off.
This audio really kept my attention, as I couldn’t wait to find what happened next. I really liked that there were few characters to keep up with, a good quality for an audio book.
The narrators did a great job of bringing the story and the characters to life.
I did foresee the twist near the end, but it did not spoil the ending. The afterward was a big surprise for me and I can see Hurst writing a sequel to this excellent thriller/mystery.

What a wild ride this was, Daniel Hurst stuns me again! I thought through the entire book that I knew how it would end, and I was partially right, but still so wrong. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quick listen with an outstanding storyline. Not to mention I really enjoyed the narration.
Thanks so much to NetGalley , Bookouture Audio and Daniel Hurst for the chance to listen to and review this ARC.
