I loved this one. The suspense built and twisted. The author established the creepiness of the situation from the beginning. I just sat on the edge of my seat waiting for something to happen. It was pretty obvious what was going on and allowing the thriller to unfold was completely engrossing. I wanted to continue listening. I could have listened to this in one sitting.
Great character development, believable dialogue, truly scary atmosphere.
I would read/listen to this author again.
Recommended to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My Daughter's Boyfriend is a thrilling psychological thriller that takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of suspense and danger. From the moment Ellie introduces her new boyfriend, Daryl, to her mother, the story quickly evolves into a gripping tale of hidden secrets and potential peril.

The author masterfully sets the stage by introducing the initial excitement and joy Ellie's mother feels for her daughter's newfound happiness. However, the tension begins to mount when it becomes apparent that Daryl is not as he appears. Living in different countries and having never met in person, doubts arise about the true nature of their relationship.

As Ellie's mother becomes increasingly suspicious of Daryl's intentions, the discovery of a horrifying secret in his basement changes everything. The sense of urgency and fear intensifies as Ellie's mother realizes that her daughter's life may be in danger.

The pacing of the story is excellent, with the author skillfully building suspense and keeping readers engaged throughout. The character development is also noteworthy, as the protagonist's determination to save her daughter and uncover the truth is both relatable and commendable. The plot twists and turns keep readers guessing, adding to the overall enjoyment of the book.

I am reviewing an audio book of this book that i have received through Net Galley.

My Daughter's Boyfriend
by Daniel Hurst
Narrated by Harrie Dobby, Tamsin Kennard

Rating: 4.4/5.0 Stars

Daniel Hurst has done it once again! My Daughter's Boyfriend was a unique twist on the "boyfriend hiding something" type of book. Fast-paced and entertaining, Hurst takes you on a fun-filled rollercoaster of a story that left me trying to figure out whodunit until almost the very end. While this is a completely standalone novel, it's left open for a sequel if the author ever wanted to write one.

Now here's the lowdown. Dawn is living with her mid-twenty-something daughter Ellie. Things haven't been the same since Ellie's dad passed away, and Dawn is working her butt off to try and provide for them both. Ellie, although not spoiled, is a straight-up brat to her mother. When Dawn discovers that Ellie has a boyfriend in the States (they're in the UK) that she plans to meet soon, she offers to go to the US with her, as Dawn is uncomfortable with her going on her own. Ellie's boyfriend lives with his father, so the plan is solid, though entirely ridiculous. I mean, red flags are going off everywhere while reading/listening to this, and you just want to shake the characters and ask them what in the world they're thinking. Ellie is young, in love, and inexperienced...but her mother? She should know better! What happens once they arrive in the US is where things get crazy!

This was an entertaining listen, and I zipped right through it, as it kept my attention, and I wanted to know what happened next. Both narrators did a great job of bringing the story and the characters to life. I'd recommend this as a fun listen, as long as you're okay with people making really bad choices!

Thanks so much to NetGalley , Bookouture Audio and the author for the chance to listen to and review this ARC!

Not what I was expecting! I am pretty familiar with Daniel Hurst's books so going in I expected something completely different. I did guess the ending/main twist on this one but that didn't make it unenjoyable. I definitely enjoyed this book. It was a quick fast read, the narrators were great. (I switched back and forth between audio and kindle version). The daughter was a bit of a spoiled brat but she had to be or the story wouldn't progress. The story is about a young woman who meets an American boy online and wants to go and meet him. Mom refuses to let her go alone even though she is 24. When they get there everything seems so wonderful and chummy until mom goes snooping in the basement. Always remember to lock your basements when having houseguests! :) Anyway, then a whirlwind of craziness happens and it had a satisfying ending. If you like light, fun, quick thrillers this one should be added to your TBR.

3.75-4 stars

I got exactly what I generally hope for whenever I pick up one of this writer’s books- in this case, a twisty, fast-paced thriller ending in a way that is somehow simultaneously expected and unpredictable. The mother and daughter were both a realistic mix of irritating and super relatable, and the dramatic plot was a fun whirlwind of drama. As I expected, I was right about one of the major antagonists, but there was also a bit of an unexpected surprise in how his story played out. All in all, this was a quick, satisfying read.

I enjoy Daniel Hurst's writing style. My daughter's good friend was a good psychological thriller. It is the story of a mother and daughter and how they meet with another dad and son and changes their lives forever. It was a pretty quick and interesting read. Highly recommend.

This book was decent but definitely not one of Daniel’s best. It kept me entertained and wanting to know what would happen but the twist was a little less than thrilling. However, I do look forward to reading more of Daniel Hurst’s books in the future.

This was a thoroughly predictable yet entertaining and unputdownable thriller. The narration was exceptionally well delivered and I think added to the 4 star review.

Dawn and Ellie are off to LA to meet Ellie’s online boyfriend and stay at his home with his father. Ellie is 25 but seems 16 and frankly I wanted to give her a good shake. Dawn could’ve done with a bit of a shake herself to be fair. Yet they’re likeable at the same time. Red flag after red flag presents itself and after a couple of days the two are fleeing LA in the middle of the night. As I say the story is certainly predictable, yet none the less I really enjoyed it.

I love Daniel Hurst books. This is my first audiobook however. I enjoyed it very much even though I found it pretty predictable. I enjoyed the narrators and the plot was enticing. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this book!

This had the beginnings of an excellent thriller and although I still enjoyed it I had sussed out the ending long before it did end so it lost its grip then

A thrilling audiobook listen, well narrated by several vouce actors, which makes it all the more dramatic. Dawn begins to despair that her 24-year-old daughter will never grow up, get a better paid job, and move out. Her daughter appears to have reverted to grumpy teen status, hiding in her cess pit of a room. Before long, Dawn discovers she has begun a long-distance phone relationship with a young man in LA, and he wants to meet in person. Having list her husband to a brain tumour, Dawn is protective of her daughter, so she insists on going along despite the financial strain. The house and young man are both too perfect. Dawn accidently uncovers photographs in the basement that alert her to withheld truths. Are the secrecy and loes harbouring something more dangerous and sinister? I blasted through this audiobook. #mydaughtersboyfriend #danielhurst #netgalley #thriller

This a very easy read. I enjoyed the audiobook, I did guess the ending. So this book is some what predictable but still kept me interested!

I received a complimentary copy of this book "My Daughter's Boyfriend" and all opinions expressed are my own. I listened to the audiobook. I thought this book was okay. It was predictable as far as who done it. I didn't care for the characters too much. Ellie was very immature for 24. Dawn was acting like her daughter was 16, although I know she wanted to protect her, make sure she was always safe. I was glad I had the audiobook to listen while doing other things. A kindle book would not have kept me interested enough to finish.

This was a decent book. It was a good book for that time were you want something easy to follow. This book is not going to make you think very hard. I feel like it’s pretty easy to predict who is doing what.

I would still suggest this to someone just getting into mystery/thrillers but I would put it at the top of your list.

This is another addictive thriller from Daniel Hurst. Although some of the plot was predictable, it didn’t hinder my enjoyment. It’s fast-paced and extremely entertaining. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators perfectly brought the characters to life. The daughter’s narration portrayed naivety, and a lack of life experience, while the mother’s narration exhibited a life full of life lessons. This was a quick listen and I was gripped every minute. I highly recommend this absorbing thriller. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No surprise here. Another Daniel Hurst book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

When Ellie and her mother come to the US so Ellie can meet her online boyfriend Daryl IN PERSON, Ellie is ecstatic…her mother is more wary but with good reason. Things immediately seem a bit “off” upon the women arriving at Daryl and his father’s house. Something isn’t right here and Ellie’s mother is determined to get to the bottom of it…

You will feel the suspense with every turn of the page.

I totally guessed the ending but I don’t care. It was still very entertaining from start to finish.

I absolutely recommend this one, just like every other Daniel Hurst book.

This book is getting 3 stars from me. I was turning pages quickly because I wanted to find out what was going on but it was predictable for me. I figured it out…there was 1 twist at the end I didn’t expect but, it didn’t make the book that exciting. I will continue to read this author though because I really did like the writing style with multiple POVs and shorter chapters. Thank you NetGalley for the arc!

I'm sorry to say that I give this book 2 stars. While the book didn't anger me, I also knew how it would end pretty early on.

This audiobook is voiced by 2 women with voices that come across as appropriately aged, accents are attempted for other characters which adds to the story.

I don't like that the younger MFC comes across as young and naive. She's 24, come on. Also, the author refers to "the driver" and "the caller" which I found annoying.

As a thriller this did not grip me, the romance element also did not grip me. I just can't recommend it. In my opinion, there were no twists and turns throughout the story or tension build up. I hated that the tragic event in the last 10% of the book lead to the younger MFC. Please note that there is an epilogue that does add a little bit of insight to one of the characters.

I truly hope others enjoy this book and wish the author the best in their career. I graciously received this book as an ARC.

This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. I wanted to keep listening on into the night so I could find out what was going to happen. This book is so well written and even leaves an opening for a sequel. I liked the characters, even the ones with secrets to hide. The narrators were great to listen to, as well.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the invitation to listen to this book. I look forward to more books from Daniel Hurst!
