Intriguing twist on the Merlin story with two families of witches that can only practice magic in October. The family dynamics are also important as they demonstrate family trauma and love.

Clementine Merlyn is a thirteen-year old witch who is part of a family of witches who can only use magic during the month of October. Their family had a falling out with the other branch of the family, the Morgans. The reason that they can only use magic during October is because of the falling out. This October, it’s time for Clementine’s magic to awaken, but Clemmie doesn’t really want it after the disastrous event of the year before when her cousin Mirabelle’s magic resulted in her completely shutting out the rest of her family after her spell got her lost in the arctic. Clem’s family is so excited for her magic to come in as it would make her the missing piece to awakening all their magic and would enable them to use magic year round rather than just for a month. But after a disastrous attempt by her aunts to recover their magic that leads to them disappearing its now up to Clemmie and Mirabelle to find a way to fix the xurse and even team up with some very unlikely Morgans. Can they end the family feud and get back their family before it’s too late? This was a bit of a mixture between Practical Magic and Hocus Pocus, it’s definitely a cute autumn read!
