Texas 50 Hikes with Kids is a beautiful resource for families that introduces you to many of the breathtaking hikes in the Great Lone Star state. After an introduction on choosing your adventure and a guide on preparing for your adventure, we dive into the Panhandle Plains, Hill Country, Prairies and Lakes, the Piney Wood, and the Coastal Plains. All these hikes are appropriate for kids.

The hikes are organized by area and include information on the nearest city/hub, how long the hike is, the difficulty in elevation, and special highlights such as caves, rivers, canyons and the like. You can also choose a hike based on the season.

The information about each hike is very thorough. In additional to general information about the area and what you will see, we are also treated to a lot of maps, tons of breathtaking photographs, and information on flora and fauna (and bugs!). This is a very thorough, beautiful resource if you live in the area or plan to visit on vacation. It would also be a great conversation starter for your coffee table, with all the beautiful pictures!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

My kids and I love to camp and hike. This book is full of some really great hikes, some that we’ve done before, and some new ones. During our recent camping trip we were able to do the hike in Daingerfield State Park and Caddo Lake State Park. Both hikes were great, ability wise, for my kids and they enjoyed looking for the Scavenger Hunt items. The maps and photographs in the book are great. This would be a great book for the outdoor Texas family to add to their library. I look forward to adding it to our library so it can travel all over Texas with us.

Thank you NetGalley and Timber Press for the opportunity to review this book prior to publication.

50 Hikes with Kids Texas is an engaging, accessible, and useful guide to family friendly local hikes in different areas of Texas. Due out 17th Oct 2023 from Hachette on their Timber Press imprint, it's 288 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This handbook is full of ideas for planning family hiking and finding opportunities to experience nature together. It's specifically aimed at kid friendly areas with practical suggestions for planning, choosing, and executing trips. The general introductory chapters contain numbered key tables with both names and features of each hike. Readers can look for general locations, plan an itinerary, or choose destinations based on geographical or historical features.

The hikes are arranged roughly geographically:West Tx/Big Bend, Panhandle Plains, Hill Country, prairies & lakes, piney woods, and the coastal plains. Each trip guide includes maps, points of interest, length (important!), elevation gain, difficulty, seasons of interest (many are year-round), directions, fees, facilities, extra treats and features, and contact information for the sites.

The book is beautifully illustrated throughout, with topographical and local maps, color photography, and line drawn illustrations. There are beautiful clear photos of local nature and wildlife as well.

This is a valuable guide. It is part of a series of hike/destination planners for different areas of the USA from the same publisher. It would be a great choice for home use as well as library acquisition.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

50 Hikes with Kids Texas is the perfect guide for conquering the Lone Star State as a family! You will love this guide if you ever plan to visit or live in Texas with kids of all ages! We recently found out we will relocate to Texas and I immediately knew this book would be our best resource! I immediately loved the organization of this guide, Texas is a huge state and can be intimidating for trip planning. This guide breaks each region of Texas and helps you choose your own adventure! Further, this guide accounts for seasons and geographic features! Most importantly, the author details the importance of preparing for your adventure, a step that most will skip over and often has devastating consequences. This book is a planner’s dream for conquering the State of Texas with children.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This was a fun and informative read. I liked that each hike showed how long it takes, along with fees and places to grab a bite to eat. The photos were great as well and various questions were spread throughout the book to get kids thinking. This book is also good for people who just want to go on shorter hikes instead of day long hikes.

The cover of this book had me thinking this was going to be an illustrated guide but it actually uses real life photography. The hike information gives you maps and details things like how difficult each is and what you can expect to see on your journey.

This book series would be good for families who like adventure, travel, nature and the outdoors 🌲🪨

I cannot wait to purchase this book! I've hiked at a few of these parks before I had my daughter and really want to start taking her with me. It's been hard to find a good central source of family friendly Texas trails. This book is exactly what I've been looking for to help me find kid-friendly trails in my state. The information is compiled in such an easy to follow and engaging way. It also gives helpful information to help guardians to select and prepare for a hike with kids in mind. I also love that each hike has scavenger hunts for families to use during the hike.
