A young woman staggers down a rural town street late at night - drunk? No the local station sergeant finds her moribund and she dies before he can get help. The p.m. shows she had had her kidneys removed, and as soon as she is ID'd it emerges that her father is a prominent local surgeon with a national reputation. After a month DI gardener's investigation has gone nowhere and the father vows he will find the killers himself- then his son is murdered - and his liver removed. Its a competent enough whodunit which rattles along and is an enjoyable read, but it is not well researched. The chances of a brother and sister in their twenties both being recipients of different major organs are remote, and kidney transplants are usually of a single organ implanted in the groin, not replaced at the site of the diseased kidney.

Organ transplants on the dark side - not what you expect in Yorkshire, by gum. DI Stewart Gardener and team have their work cut out from the start. Family problems, greed, revenge are all in the mixof what is a very unpleasant "income stream".. Well written and characterised. Thanks to NtGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

First novel I have read by Ray Clark, but I will definitely read the others in the series starring Detective Stewart Gardener and his team investigating the death of a young woman found with her kidney removed. Impunity is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery thriller.
