A Lamb in the Lyon’s Den

She must have a child to inherit, so she thought to pay him to adopt one of the children at his orphanage. The children were not for sale, he told her. What was she to do? She resorted to Mrs. Dove-Lyon, the most notorious matchmaker in London. The way Mrs. Dove-Lyon did it was quite scandalous, and the man in her bed was the one who rejected her offer. However, it was a night that neither of them could forget, but only with honesty could they bridge the gap between them. Could love find a way? I enjoyed this entertaining story and would recommend it to lovers of historical romance. Were the issues of inheritance most peculiar? Perhaps, they were, but the story was quite entertaining. I particularly appreciated the shorter length of the story. I am always looking for stories that are not too long, and this novella fits the bill.

I've read quite a few of the Lyon's Den books, but this is the first I've read by this author. The story had a unique which caught my attention, and kept me interested all the way through. Araminta is a childless widow, and after having such an abusive marriage, has no desire to wed again. But in order to inherit her husband's property, she needs to produce an heir. So she decides to try and adopt a child from the local orphanage. But the director of the orphanage, Leo Chetwynd, doubting her motives, turns down her offer and refuses to let her adopt a baby. She is frustrated, but doesn't give up hope and goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help. She promises to find Araminta a suitable match. Leo loves the children, but he is facing financial difficulties because of all he has spent caring for these children. The only way for him to save the orphanage is to marry a wealthy heiress. He also goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help, and she puts her matchmaking skills to use. Araminta and Leo end up spending the night together, not truly knowing who the other is. Despite their first meeting, their chemistry explodes, and when they find out each other's true identities, they couldn't be more shocked.
This was a very different, but intriguing and entertaining story, with some twists I didn't see coming. The characters were interesting and well-defined, and easily likable. A very creative addition to the series!

The Lyon and the Lamb
by Elizabeth Keysian

Lady Araminta needs an heir within the year to satisfy her late husband's will.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the books by different writers in this series, and as always the Black Widow with her unerring perception, finds the perfect match for Lady Araminta Lamb. The fact that he is also her nemesis makes it all the more interesting and comical, especially when Leo and Araminta eventually come to realize what Bessie Dove-Lyon has in store for them. Once they get over their horror, they begin to find solutions to both of their problems. Whether or not they survive their siblings is another matter altogether. This romance kept me interest and it comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for my honest review.

An interesting entry in the Lyon's Den series. Araminta is a recent widow with a problem. She must produce a baby within the year to inherit her husband's property. A poorly written will means the child doesn't have to be her husband's. Her late husband was a terrible man, and Araminta had no desire to marry again and get a child in the usual way. Instead, she goes to a local orphanage and attempts to adopt one of the babies. However, it is no surprise that the director of the orphanage, Leo Chetwynd, turns her down flat. She gives a fake name, wears a veil to hide her identity, and attempts to bribe him for an infant. Araminta is furious and storms out, but despairs finding a way to keep a roof over her and her sister's heads. So she turns to the notorious Mrs. Dove-Lyons for help, who promises to find Araminta a suitable husband.

Leo has more critical problems than a woman who wants to buy a baby. A risky business venture has tied up all of his cash, and someone is trying to buy the orphanage's property from under him. He needs an infusion of capital, fast. With his younger brother's encouragement, Leo realizes that marriage to an heiress is the best solution to his problem. He goes to the Lyon's Den to ask Mrs. Dove-Lyons for help. She proposes that if he can prove himself as a lover to her choice for his wife, his problems will be solved. Still grieving over the deaths of his wife and baby, he hadn't planned to remarry, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Of course, Mrs. Dove-Lyons pairs up Araminta and Leo. Their first meeting hadn't gone well - Araminta thought he was arrogant, and Leo thought she was just short of a criminal. Their second meeting, the anonymous night spent together, was far different. The chemistry between them was off the charts, and by compatibility, they'd surely do well together. But when they discover who their mysterious partners were, both are shocked.

I liked that they met and put all their cards on the table. Honesty was the only way to go forward and have a successful union. But Araminta has some issues to overcome before taking that final step. Leo is more than willing to tie the knot to get Araminta in his bed and save his orphanage, but he has his work cut out to convince her. A surprise twist alters Leo's need for a quick marriage in an amusing yet awkward scene, but by this time, Leo has realized his feelings for Araminta. I liked his big moment and seeing him come through for Araminta.

The epilogue was good. There's a neat little twist involving Mrs. Dove-Lyons and the surprise she had for Leo and Araminta.

Thanks to NetGalley for this story. I have enjoyed all the Lyon's Den books. Mrs. Lamb's husband's will states that she cannot have control of his property and income unless she has a baby that is either hers or his. She goes to the orphanage to try to get a newborn and say it is hers. The earl who runs the place is fulfilling a dream of his mother's and the bylaws would not allow it. He is getting short of money as an investment he made has been lost at sea. He goes to the Lyon's Den looking for a wealthy wife and she goes looking for a husband who can get her pregnant. They meet in the dark. As they fall in love and their problems are solved. How they get there is the fun part.

I enjoyed this take on the Lyons den. Mrs. Dove-Lyon seemed to be rather motherly instead of the hard nosed business woman some portray her as. There is one steamy scene but its kinda necessary in this book. I enjoy the book in total. The epilogue was enjoyable and entertaining.
I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.

The Lyon and the Lamb is the first foray into the Lyon’s Den Connected world for author, Elizabeth Keysian. She made it a memorable one with the slightly risque introduction of the two by Mrs. Dove-Lyon. Arminta Lamb is a widow, from a much less-than-happy marriage. In order to keep her inheritance she has to produce a child within a year of her husband’s death. She tries to adopt but is thwarted by the arrogant Lord Aylsham who representsthe founding hospital. He questioned her motives. Perhaps the false name and the veil contributed to that. He loved this children and had all but bankrupted his estate caring for them, as his mother had. He bowed to the pressure of his brother and attended an evening’s entertainment at the Lyon’s Den. Before long, he was selected and had to strip and enter a room with no lights where he found a naked woman on the bed. If all went well he would meet her and they would marry. All went very well...in the bed chamber.

This was an entertaining and different story. The characters were well-developed and interesting with real-world problems. Leo was an honorable man, almost to a fault and his brother, Roland, made few appearances but was very likable, which was part of his problem. Minty’s sister, Belinda, was a little simple, but had been through a lot and was recovering. The overall plot was creative and worth the follow-through. It was a good book.

Lady Araminta Lamb needs an heir in the next year to satisfy her husband will. Her first idea failed when Leo Chetwynd, Earl of Aylsham, refuses to allow her to adopt a child from his foundling home. Leo needs money quickly if he is to save the foundling home his mother established. Both go to Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, matchmaker extraordinaire, and gambling den owner, for help. Leo wins the challenge and the prize, a night with a lady interested in marriage. The night goes very well, but when Leo and Araminta meet the next day, a different kind of sparks fly. Mrs. Dove Lyon, who seldom, if ever, makes a mistake about a couple knows that these two are perfect for one another. She just needs to convince them. This is another enjoyable trip to the Lyon’s Den and another happy ending courtesy of Bessie Dove Lyon.

According to her late husband's will, Lady Araminta Lamb needs a baby, but she's not keen on getting one naturally. Such intimacy with her dead husband was not pleasant. Adoption is out of the question. The Earl of Aylsham, the Principal Trustee, refused her request at the Lady Aylsham Foundlings Home. Her only option is the matchmaker, Mrs. Dove-Lyon, to find a husband. Leo Chetwynd, the Earl of Aylsham, refused Lady Lamb's offer of payment for a child, but the funds needed to keep his mother's foundling home afloat, hinges on his investment that maybe lost at sea, not the lady's bribery. Persuaded by his brother to go for an evening at the Lyon's Den, Leo becomes a pawn in Mrs. Dove-Lyon's game. He is the winner of first prize, a night with a particular lady. Mrs. Dove-Lyon always has her sources and plans accordingly. She will get these two adversaries together.
Always a pleasure to read books in this successful series. Open bedroom door.

Widowed Lady Araminta Lamb must produce an heir in the next year if she's to keep a roof over her and her sister's heads. Her problem is after an abusive marriage she is not interested in allowing another man to touch her.
Leo Chetwynd, Earl of Aylsham is responsible for his mother's legacy, the foundling home. Unfortunately his money may have been lost and the home is in danger of being sold.
Once again our proprietor of the Lyon's Den sets a daring sceme in motion to solve her client's problems. Will they agree to her terms??
A short and steamy adventure awaits.
Good fun.

What a highly entertaining and unusual book this is! The premise of it was so original , it caught me off guard. To see Leo, the hero change was so swoon-worthy, I wanted to be the one in the Lyon’s Den with him! Araminta was a force to be reckoned with, especially after being beat down by her deceased husband. I loved the author’s description of them in the room together, alone. It was like I could see them, even if they couldn’t see each other! I was aghast at the thought of what Araminta’s dead husband put in his will concerning the child…..lots of emotions going there! I truly loved this story!

I received this ARC copy for free and these are my own opinions

This series has been so much fun with Mrs. Dove Lyons bringing her successful matchmaking skills to the forefront. This time she has two people who seem very different thrown together.

But leave it to her to find the perfect match, although it will take awhile to make them realize it!!

As always with this author, you won't be able to put it down until the end!

I have enjoyed the Lyon's Den Connected World, and this book did not disappoint. Each writer manages to weave previous characters and storylines into own their story making it bigger and better. In the Lyon and The Lamb Elinora found an unexpected love when she was looking for safety and security. Leo found love when he didn't think he could give his heart away, again. Bessie Dove-Lyon has a way of matching people who need each other and the writer makes it all believable.

I'm ready for the next one.

Such a tender love story!

Lady Araminta now a widow and wanted to adopt a child but Leo the Earl of Aylsham was preventing her from doing so.

Both had their reasons for approaching Mrs Dove-Lyon and after one night together at the Lyon’s Den not knowing the identity of each other, their fate was sealed.

A lovely romantic, tender read with some surprises along the way!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Only the production of an heir can save Lady Araminta Lamb. The problem is that she’s a childless widow who, after an abusive marriage, can’t bear the thought of a man’s touch. But when her desperate attempt to adopt a child is foiled by the powerful Leo Chetwynd, Earl of Aylsham, there’s only one option left to keep her home and her fragile sister Belinda safe. She must gamble everything on Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s outrageous matchmaking scheme. Leo Chetwynd needs money urgently or his precious orphans will be cast out. Investing in three ships' cargoes has cost him all his capital and they are late arriving in port, there’s nothing left to offer but himself. Marriage to an heiress is the only solution that he and his scapegrace brother can think of. If Leo accepts Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s choice of heiress, sight unseen, the orphanage and the family name will be saved.
A well written enjoyable read, Leo & Araminta locked horns at their first meeting, their second was different!! & their third interesting. I really liked the couple but their feelings changed a bit too quickly for me but it’s a short read so things had to move fast. I certainly believed they fell in lust with each other & by the epilogue were definitely in love. A very enjoyable enemie to lovers romance with Mrs Dove-Lyon's again weaving her magic & the meeting was certainly different & original
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I like this series but I thought this one was slow paced. It didn't have much substance to the story. They met, were wishy-washy about having met. Decided they'd give it a go. Decided they wouldn't give it a go. And then changed their minds several more times.

The Lyon's Den series has been so much fun to read. I love getting to see how all these different authors interpret the basic premise and add to this particular literary universe. I liked the main characters here but found I wanted more of them developing a relationship. It starts with Leo still grieving over his wife and child and vowing he will never fall in love or marry again to being ready to do just that after having sex with a mystery woman once. And I'm not sure how well thought out Araminta's plan was - I agreed with Leo in not allowing her to adopt one of the children at the orphanage. She was basically lying about giving the child a happy home because she had no idea who the foster parents would have been. Had there been a little more relationship development between the two characters I would have bought their being in love by the end a little more.
