Elle Kennedy never disappoints and I am just enamored by The Summer Girl. Cassie Soul is looking for a fling and finds the perfect candidate in sailing instructor and lovable player Tate, only when Tate meets Cassie, he knows she’s not one to play games with, so to protect their friendship, he says no to a fling—except their chemistry just might be too much to resist. Oh I adored going back to Avalon Bay. I think this is my favorite in this series. Cassie and Tate are just wonderful. The banter is so good and bright, the characters have so much chemistry, the steam is sexy, and it’s just wonderful. I relate so hard to Cassie’s struggles and I just loved her. She’s funny and feisty and I loved watching her find her voice. And Tate is just perfect. He’s funny and charming. Their friendship is so fun and I love the drama of this book and the balance of it. I was so hooked and just really had such fun listening to and reading this book!

I want to start by saying I didn't listen to any other books in this series before this one and honestly didn't even realize it was a series until I came to writ my review so it stands alone very well. This was a funny and sweet book about a summer fling. I loved the connection between the characters from the beginning and I really loved how they supported each other so much. The banter was perfect and not over the top and the steam level was perfect, not too hot and not to cold. Cassie was smart and funny and was confident enough to make her a fun characters even though she didn't know she was beautiful but Tate knew it and made sure to tell her. I loved how this story came together in the end and how the issues were resolved.

Teddy Hamilton & Caitlin Elizabeth were perfect for this book. They really complimented each others style and sound.

I would recommend this book to all romance lovers.

I tried to get into this book three times. I’m giving up at about 35%. I just don’t like it and can’t get into the characters.

Elle Kennedy is one of my favorite go to authors. Her writing is usually on point and she gives a good storyline. Although I liked The Summer Girl, it’s definitely my least favorite in this series. It was still a cute story and a fun read, and would probably recommend it to any Elle Kennedy fan!

The narrators for the audio did a fantastic job though!

***Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review***

Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- listened on audio. This is the third book in the Avalon Bay series but my least favorite of the three. The first two books I read and this one I listened on audio so I don’t know if that made a difference. The story fell flat for me compared to the first two. The book follows Cassie as she spends the summer in Avalon Bay looking for a summer fling. The characters from the first two books do appear in this book but it could be read as a stand-alone. Elle Kennedy is one of my favorite authors and despite this not being my favorite in the series, it was very well written.

This was a DNF for me. I read about 20% but the entire premise of the book was finding someone to hook up with for the summer and that's just not my vibe.

This was a cute book! It’s the third in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. Definitely one to read on the beach! I loved Cassie and Tate’s interactions. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were great!

Cassie Soul hasn't returned to her hometown in Avalon Bay for more than a week in years. This year, she's spending the entire summer as a final farewell to her Grandma's home and life's work, the local hotel. Cassie has her mind set on enjoying her time in Avalon Bay and finding a summer fling. Enter: Tate Bartlett. Tate is Avalon Bay's loveable player, not to mention he's super hot. When he and Cassie spark up a sudden connection, Tate realizes he can't keep his heart at bay and friendzones her. However, he quickly realizes this is a mistake and he is desperate to "fling" Cassie right. now. With oodles of chemistry and a few secrets to manage along the way, this spicy romance is sure to keep you interested.

I LOVED this book. This was my first my Elle Kennedy and I could not stop listening. This book was sooo spicy and fun to read. Tate and Cassie had such great chemistry and their banter was so fun to listen to, I found myself laughing out loud at some points! The narration was great; Cassie's voice was so cute, innocent and relatable, while Tate's was deep and sexy and slightly douchey, while being loveable all the same. This book touched heavily on the complex relationships we can have with our parents, which I thought was really well done. All in all, this was a fun and spicy romance with some deeper and more complicated dynamics underlying. Very well done! I can't wait to read more of Elle Kennedy's books!

In case you are new here, I am a HUGE Elle Kennedy fan! Imagine my excitement when I got approved to read an ARC of The Summer Girl this week! Well…the results are in! Tate and Cassie have stolen my heart!!! They are so fun together, but they also support each other at every moment! I was SHOCKED when the story didn’t follow Alana (based off of the cover), but I couldn’t be more glad to be honest because Cassie and Tate are just so flippin adorable! I laughed out loud multiple times from their antics as well as those from Mac, Gen, and the Hartleys! Copper and Gate forever! 💙

This was another good summer read by Elle Kennedy! She seems to have perfected the bad boy/good girl summer beach series and I enjoy her books while sitting in the sun!

“The Summer Girl” returns to Avalon Bay on the South Carolina coast this time with Cassie, who has returned to spend the summer with her grandma and her dad and his family. Cassie is set on a summer fling and the first person she meets is Tate, the town’s hot sailing instructor and serial boy toy.

I’m a classic trope of promises not to fall for each other, Cassie and Tate agree to a summer fling, with Cassie’s narcissistic and overly critical mom in the background.

I thought the story was good, although a little unbelievable with Cassie and Tate being young, barely over 20, but all in all a good summer sit by the pool romance read.

An adorable summer read! Its one filled with steamy hook up scenes and cute banter. It’s a read that also tackles familial conflict and the redefining of relationships.

This is my second Elle Kennedy read and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed this one and it gives off all the summer vibes with some sprinkled in jaw dropping drama!

Although this read is part of a series, I haven’t read any of the others and thought this was a solid standalone.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC.

I did not find this as enjoyable as some of the authors other books. This is the first of this series that I read, so maybe I just missed out on some character development from the others.
While overall this was a cute read, the writing felt clunky and the love interests personalities didn't match up at some points.
I'm not sure if it was the narration, but there would be major time jumps in the story that sounded like it was a continuation of what just happened, but then wouldn't make sense until the time gap was explained.

I found the narration to match the dissonance I felt in the characters. Cassie sounded very young and niave, while Tate sounded much older and mature.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for sharing this audio ARC of The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy!

Friends- you are going to love the audio! Narrating super stars Teddy Hamilton and Caitlin Elizabeth narrate beautifully. It is dual point of view so we get to hear both voices. They do an excellent job representing their characters- Cassie and Tate. Teddy definitely has that easy going surfer bro vibe that represents Tate perfectly. Caitlin's voice is vibrant and enthusiastic, perfect for the creative and cautious Cassie.

The story is great too! Cassie and Tate are two loveable young adults setting out on a summer fling or are they? This book captures the fun of summer time and youthful adventures. It also tackles interesting family dynamics without losing the fun. If you are looking for a beach read or listen check this one out.

I should also mention this is a part of an ongoing series. It is the third installment of the Avalon Bay series and a cross over with the Briar U series. I do not think you need to have read the other books in either series to enjoy this. I only read the first book in the series and didn't love it. In my opinion the plot and writing improved with this book.

I want to start by saying I have read Elle Kennedy books before and really enjoyed them, but this book was not it.
Every single chapter comments on how tiny she is and how big and gigantic her boobs are. Her only personality trait seems to be that she has big boobs but she's skinny. We get it.
She also spends a lot of time staring out the window watching her neighbor change, and comments on how she knows if it were the other way around then it would be considered wrong, and would get in trouble. But there are no repercussions for her watching him naked, without his consent.
The other thing that really bothered me about this book was during the summer games Cassie comments about a character being a "big is, like 200 pounds". The character is described as being over 6 feet tall, so 200 lbs would not make him overweight. This also implies that 200lbs is overweight and that's just not the case, there are plenty of instances where 200lbs is a perfectly healthy weight for someone. 200 lbs is not a huge number. This was clear fatphobia.

So was this a cute summer read? Sure. But not without its issues.

The Summer Girl was a pleasant quick romance. It stands out among the pack by touching on toxic relationships, body shaming and the importance of standing up for oneself. Elle Kennedy is a very good writer that always provides her readers with a pleasant escape.

This was awesome! The story was amazing and the narration matched it so well! I couldn’t have done it better. I’m also really hoping we get a sequel to their relationship!

This book was more than just a light fluffy summer read. It was so relatable to me as someone whose parents divorced when I was young. All the fallout and complex emotions and relationships that came from that hit very close to home. Cassie was such a sweet big sister to her way younger siblings even dealing with the sadness that comes from feeling like an outsider in her own family.

But it really was a fun read and I devoured it in a day. I loved Cassie and her friends and how they interacted and cared for each other. Tate was yummy and of course I love everything that Teddy Hamilton narrates so that drew me right in. I loved the banter and friendship that developed between Cassie and Tate! I do want to throw a hot coffee on Cassie’s mom though. I had no idea this was the 3rd book in the series when I requested it but it didn’t matter because it can be read as a stand-alone.

Both of the narrators did a great job and I love when books that are dual POV have dual narration as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this audio book. All thoughts are my own.

this was a sweet, cute, fun story! I loved Cassie & wanted her to have all the love & acceptance she so fully deserves! & Tate is a sweetheart from the very beginning, I love his relationship with his parents & always wanted to do the right thing. Cassie & Tate have a cute relationship right from the start & I loved seeing it progress from friendship to more.
I really felt for Cassie and her relationship with her parents. her dad & stepmother do love her but don’t know how to properly show her that knowing she had a such a narcissistic & emotionally abusive mother. I LOVED the twin girls, they were a highlight of the story.
I didn’t love the ending, the way Cassie’s mother behaves & the way Tate’s parents expect Tate to move on so quickly from such heart shattering information. I really felt for Tate, realizing his wonderful parents had such a heartbreaking moment years before. It is so soul crushing to hear the people we love most are capable of such hurt. I wish he’d been given the chance to grieve the loss of the relationship he once had with his parents and time to be comfortable in this knew one.
I felt the end could have been developed more for Tate & Cassie coming back together, too.
Overall, I really loved this story, five star read until like the 90% mark for me.
thank you for the ARC!!!
