Oh my GOD. This is fantastic. Not only is it really genuinely helpful, it is also perfectly in line with the actual Way of the House Husband series.

A highly entertaining and informative guide made from the series The Way of the Househusband. I enjoyed learning information here while revisiting some of the jokes from the series. This was a really inspired idea.

Thanks Viz Media and NetGalley for this silly and informative arc!

5/5 stars

This is a really great little manga, jam packed full of helpful tips and tricks, from cleaning and organizing to recipes and pointers on how to relax. It includes funny excerpts from different volumes of The Way of the Househusband, so you know Tatsu knows the advice he's giving you is good! I feel many of these tips are great for older teens and young adults to learn, because lets face it, some of these are things they should but don't teach you in high school! A great silly read

I think this is a fun spin off, would be enjoyable for manga readers. Not sure if I should put it with manga or in adult non fiction in my library but I'm happy to purchase and see how it goes

I love The Way of the Househusband comics and was pleasantly surprised to see this come out. One of the fun parts of the the Anime was the little household adice tidbits that were at the end of scenes. This book takes that idea and makes it a fully fledge book full of great and practical advice. I'm going to give this book out as presents to those moving out on their own so they can have a "life manual" to help them out. There is a great balance between advice and humor throughout.

This book is fantastic for an intro to househusbandry. It plays on the original series quite well and provides good advice for readers if not really that deep.

Do you watch/read The Way of the Househusband? I do. Have you ever wondered exactly what Tatsu used to make a certain recipe, or spot treat a stain? I have. Well, this book will answer a lot, if not all, of your questions. It's filled with handy tips. tricks, recipes, financial advise, DIY projects, etc that have been covered, in some form, within the series.

So what did I think?

It's a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I found a lot of the info to be a little basic. Things like spot treating and letting it sit, separating your clothes by color, reading the clothing label, running the washer and such only when full to save water... for example, is pretty basic. That said, 'he' recommends a laundry bar, which I have never seen or heard of before. So I will be looking into this wonderful product.

He also pitches things like using baking soda and lemons to clean the tub? I have heard of baking soda because it's a great scrubbing item, but lemon? huh. Too bad lemons are kind of expensive here. His financial advice doesn't go much past what he says in the anime. Make a spreadsheet, track EVERYTHING. Hopefully you will notice a trend of you buying a 'luxury' item or getting a lot of take out and you can nip it in the bud, thereby saving you money.

It feels very...yakuza to spend a couple of pages explaining why you should splurge a little on a good chef's knife, how to care for it, how to decide which one is for you and how to sharpen it. From there we move on to recipes!!! While I don't think some of them are for me (I'm looking at you Wood Ear Mushroom Salad), some of them sound delicious! Cheese Croquettes? Udon with Summer Tempura? Honey-Lemon Chicken sandwich???? Yes please! The real trick is going to be getting some of the key ingredients in Northern North America.

Know your Territory is next. What does this mean? Well know your stores, where things are located within those stores and pick the correct store accordingly. Grocery stores get a couple of pages, including "compare and contrast" and the dollar store has it's own little page. Don't forget to Get Some Exercise, Networking, Use Your Crew, Self Defense, and much much more are just a snippet of the other sections of this book. I could seriously write a small novella trying to cover everything in here! I kinda like the "How to Relax" section myself. And K.O. a Cold section is a good reminder to take is easy. lol

Is it all useful? Well that depends who you are and where you live I guess. There are a lot of handy little things in this book. I would definitely consider giving it to any young adult who is venturing out into the world on their own for the first time. I know a relative who dyed all their dress shirts pink when they threw a red hat into the wash so I guess he could have done with reading the laundry section. lol

All in all it's a pretty good and potentially useful book!

So you watched the anime show or read the manga The Way of the House Husband but you did not keep notes on how Tatsu managed everything? Well you are in luck! The Way of the Househusband: The Gangster's Guide to Housekeeping walks you through cleaning, laundry, gardening, then goes on to cooking, shopping, and keeping fit. Everything has enough details to let you know what and how to accomplish the task without going overboard. Plus there are lots of illustrations to keep you in the mood. A nice guide for beginning and intermediate house husbands!

Thanks Netgalley and Viz Media for the opportunity to read this title!

Having the legendary gangster, Tatsu give me advice on cleaning, cooking, and being a good gangster is perfect. I think this book is more of a treat for those who are fans of the manga already but it is also just good fun for anyone. It also just has great tips and skills and I can't wait to try them all out.

I have loved this series from the start, now to see the beloved Tatsu teaching everyday people how to perform household tasks only adds to the entertainment. This book is informational and entertaining in the same instance, filled with recipes, cleaning-tips, and much more. This is a brilliant way to tie in the manga to real-life situations.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will certainly be purchasing a physical copy in the near future.

I won't lie, I requested an arc of this novel based on the title. This was a weird combination of manga, advice, self-help and common sense. I found it to be a quirky mix of recipes, cleaning suggestions, household management advice and humor. Most of it seemed like common sense to me; however, I can see how this would be valuable for a younger generation. Valuable life skills are contained within these pages.

A solid introduction to housekeeping, presented in a fun way. Would've liked to see it go a bit more in-depth on its topics.

This was a really cute guide. I really enjoy The Way of the Househusband manga so I was curious to see what this guide would be about. There is a ton of advice in here ranging from making a Halloween costume, pouring tea correctly, shopping for deals, cooking, and a ton more. If you're looking for a fun guide then check this one out. I think this would make a great housewarming gift too.

I wanted to like this (I know it's a popular property) but really, this is very weak tea. There's little in it for fans or for would-be housekeepers.

I think fans of The Way of the Househusband will really enjoy seeing Tatsu's wisdom laid out in an easy to follow and fun to read book. My favorite part is the recipes! Each recipe is for a food that Tatsu makes in the manga. There's lots of useful tips for housekeeping, budgeting, networking, and fitness that I think are especially important for folks starting out on their own. I really could have used some of them in my early adulting days! I liked that all the lessons are paired with pages and excerpts from the manga.

So fun! I love The Way of the Househusband so was very excited to review this. The tips are actually useful, but the format isn't stuffy. I think this would be a great gift for a new adult moving into their first apartment

This book is an excellent treasure trove of all of the life tips that Tatsu has picked up on his journey to become the ultimate yakuza member turned househusband. It's full of little panels from the manga that allude to some of my favourite moments (Tatsu's grimace while doing aerobics is a scene that had me literally crying tears!) delicious sounding recipes (the honey lemon chicken sandwich sounds heavenly) and information on so many things. There are tips on keeping the house tidy (I'm going to buy a bar of laundry soap to pre-treat stains), pet care, managing finances all peppered with hilarious "gangster" lingo and idioms that made me smile. It's a must for Way of the Househusband fans!

Thank you NetGalley and Viz Media for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
