I unfortunately forgot to download the e-book on my kindle before it was archived and/or lost interest in the book because it’s been on my tbr for way too long, so I wasn’t able to read and review it (on time). Since I Must give a star rating, I’ve given it 3 stars to stay neutral/in the middle. Sorry to the publisher for not having gotten around to actually read it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing me with an egalley of this book to read and give my honest review. All opinins expressed here are my own.
The plot is kind of typical bad boy meets good girl and figures out he's not as bad as he thought. I love it when characters can emotionally change each other in this way. I also enjoy a bad boy villain who you just cannot help but love. The thing that drew me to this book the blurb because I totally loved the idea of a soul collector. It's a unique idea and not really one I see often. The blurb reminded me of Susan Kaye Quinn's Debt Collector series, which I loved.
Dante is one of those characters you love to hate. He's infuriatingly witty but has an ego bigger than anything else you've encountered. He's so super cocky, almost overboard with it. But at the same time, you actually like it because it's just so funny. And his voice in this book is really what makes the story. These characters are often fun as watching them knocked a few notches down is so satisfying. And I love Charlie. She's a classic nerd, so different from most of the young female characters in YA books. They often are pretty and have rocking bodies. Not so with Charlie. She's sweet and strong. The way their relationship develops is great to watch. Plus, they are relatable, which is always a plus in connecting with characters in a story.
The pacing was great. I didn't feel like I was bogged down with information overload. But Scott did a great job with building the world. Overall it was a medium pace for me.
If you're looking for a more unique take on "paranormal" YA, this one is a great place to start. Don't miss out on it, you won't be disappointed.

(I'm not sure why it didn't save here.)

This book was very original and intriguing. The plot was well developed and the characters were well written. This is the first I've read by this author, and I will be marking this author as one to watch. The premise made me go into this one with high expectations, and the book delivered. I thought it was missing that extra something to make this a 4, but it was very good and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

I’ve been craving some snarky, bad boy action lately and Dante Walker fits that bill perfectly. As a soul collector it’s his job to steer people toward his way of thinking so that he can eventually deliver them to his boss. He doesn’t ask questions. He does what’s asked of him and gets the job done. Of course, having a little fun and messing about while on duty is a bonus.

His latest assignment to lure Charlie to the dark side ends up being his most challenging to date. She’s simply not as easy a mark as he assumed. She is one of those truly kind-hearted, selfless individuals that Dante is allergic to. He works hard at coaxing her to embrace her wild side (if she has one) in hopes that he can loosen her morals. He certainly has his work cut out for him! As his time runs out, he also discovers that he's not the only one after Charlie and has to determine who he can trust and what to believe.

Here’s what I liked: Dante is a d-bag and he's completely okay with it. However, around Charlie, he finds himself in the unfamiliar role of wanting to protect her more than convert her. He starts off being not attracted to her but then begins to care for her as he gets to know her better. Her good-natured heart brings to the surface all his unresolved feelings about his family and his past.

What didn’t quite work for me was Charlie’s character. She comes across as flat to me so much so that I couldn’t quite believe it when he started developing feelings for her. I felt that she is just a list of positive attributes but not an actual person. Still his reaction and internal dilemma about Charlie are surprising and ridiculous.

I’m still happy with The Collector. It has an interesting and fun premise that kept me tuned in. There are more characters who add extra drama and tension to things. Some things were a bit far-fetched which is baffling because if I’m willing to believe that a soul collector is out to seal people's fates then what was with my eye rolls when he paid for everyone to go to Vegas? Regardless, The Collector is entertaining because Dante, the cocky s.o.b. really powers the story.

As someone who went on a fallen angels/nephilim bend a while back, this book would have been right down my alley. Sort of. At least I think it would have back then. Unfortunately, I have gotten over the interest, and that made this book a little painful to read.
So, Dante Walker is Boss Man's (the devil) right-hand guy. His job is to help ensure more souls go downstairs than upstairs, and he does it by adding 'seals' to souls for every sin or inappropriate behavior they exhibit. But since his numbers have been falling behind, Boss Man gives him another chance to redeem himself. All he had to do was get him the soul of one Charlie Cooper and he's not only fixing everything up, but also getting a promotion. Easy, right? Wrong. There's something about Charlie that Dante doesn't get. Why was the boss so interested in her? What was interesting about her soul? And who was it trailing him everywhere he went?

I started off this book really loving Dante's snarky character. It was kind of fun to read, until maybe the third or fourth chapter, perhaps? Then it just got annoying and reached a very overbearing level. I disliked how Charlie was made to feel so ugly and that he was doing her a favor by being around her while all his snark was focused on talking shit about her and his friends. Yes, this is a journey where he learns there are other sides to the girl that are worth saving and that he enjoyed being around her and her friends, etc., but his flip to good guy was so sudden it didn't ring true. Not to mention, the plot felt so thin? I hoped the more I got into the story I'd get this big reveal on why Boss Man wanted Charlie, but everything was so flimsy, and the reveals were so over the top in a roll your eyes kind of way. Not something that would have me shocked and intrigued to know more.

As a whole, I didn't enjoy either the story or the characters. They didn't feel real to me, or ones I cared about. I read all these reviews of all those people who just LOVED Dante, and I just couldn't agree. He was a prick, and nothing about him was fun to read about after a while. I made it to the end so I could finally find out what the big plot is, only to be disappointed. And now, I really don't care less about what happens next.

What an Amazing Read!!! I am now officially a fan of Dante because his character was funny, he is a hot character. This is a young adult paranormal romance series that follows, Dante who is a Collector who works for the Big Boss downstairs. Everyone who knows Dante is the main man to collect souls. In the first book in the series, Dante's assignment to to collect the soul of Charlie Cooper, who is a dorky teenage girl, who quickly means something more to Dante. I loved the connection between the characters because while he realizes that he can redeem himself and fall in love with his assignment, or he can go against the Boss Man and change his life forever.

I was hooked from the beginning from his witty comments of his job to him trying to win Charlie over to make sins. The writing was amazing and Dante can really tell a story. He is the bad boy main character who is gorgeous and funny. I loved his attitude problem to him being the hottest guy on earth. He then changes when he meets innocent and sweet Charlie. I would say Charlie really gives Dante a run for him money when he tries to get her to drink and go to parties which aren't her scene. With Dante's help he give her a new look and makes her feel better about who she is. Underneath all that exterior he does see the good in himself and also encourages him to face his own personal problems before he died. Dante is definitely funny and I did also like the references that Victoria put into the story of Las Vegas to the biblical references of a bar!

This book is a fun light read. I loved Dante. He's a badass, charming, witty, and all around a villain I rooted for the entire book. The story is a rollercoaster, and I was excited to find out that this book is part of a series! I will definitely be checking out the other books.

There is nothing better than a good ole’ antihero story. Victoria Scott delivers! The Collector is a story in which the villain becomes the hero and the innocent is tarnished. Seems like the opposite of what you want to happen. But trust me, it is perfect! It is a story of contradiction that sets up for a series I am dying to have in my hands. Dante and Charlie are the epitome of opposites attract. Granted it started as a job for Dante and shifted into something more, but when the hearts wants something, it does whatever it takes to be satisfied.

Dante is undoubtedly the best part of this book! He is a villain, the ultimate bad guy. But he transforms into something so much more. He keeps his edge but evolves into an antihero that I could not get enough of. Seeing the story unfold allows for us to understand his struggle. Nothing is black and white. He has his orders but cannot decide what he should do. And when his decision is made, nothing will ever go back to the way it has been.

Every character in this book adds depth. Charlie is the perfect YA leading lady, one who is sweet, unassuming, and kind with a heart of gold. She is everything Dante is not, and she sees the good in him, even when it seems impossible. Add in other Collectors, Liberators, and high school friends and you have a cast that is fun, sassy, and determined to prevail.

I am on pins and needles waiting to see what happens in the next book. The end was a surprise and there are so many paths we could follow. I cannot wait to see where Victoria Scott takes this story and to see what happens to Dante, Charlie, and the whole gang!

I really struggled with the themes in this book. They felt a little shallow. Beyond that, I thought the story was interesting and I would be interested and reading more in this series and from this author.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing for sending me this second chance ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:
Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.
Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried."

I am a fan of anti-heroes so I liked Dante. He and Charlie hate each other at first which always makes for an extra fun Romance! Did I mention angels and demons and trying to make a good girl go bad? I look forward to reading the second book!!

I was expecting more from this book, I am at chapter 25 and I can't keep going on! The idea was cool, I mean I have requested this because I liked the plot, but probably it wasn't it for me. Maybe in the future I'll give it another chance, but not now. I didn't like the writing style and sometimes I have found the story too childish. So it's a two stars, because the idea wasn't bad. Everything started going wrong when he convinced her to change herself for the sake of beauty. NOPE. She seemed so strong I wasn't expecting her to agree... but I will say about the author that there is potential, I loved the fact that it was written in a male point of view. And the chemistry in the first part was AMAZING, so I'll read something else from the same author, maybe it was the context that was wrong for me and not the book itself.

I have some mixed feelings. "The Collector" follows Dante in the first person- he is telling us his story. Dante died two years ago, and since death, he has worked as a collector for the "Boss Man" aka the devil. Dante and 5 others wear cuffs that allow them to stay on Earth in exchange for placing stamps on souls who are doing bad things. Once a soul is covered by stamps (theirs and their counterparts), they can collect it, and that person will immediately go to hell upon death. If a soul is not collected prior to death, then it goes to Judgement Day where it's a toss up, and they are not assured to go to hell.

Alright, so they have certain limitations, meaning they cannot harm a human and cannot just throw stamps around- they have to see something bad, but it can be something small like being rude to someone or something big like crime. They also apparently must mostly live like humans, traveling in airplanes or cars to get around. So, how do 6 people do enough work/create enough volume to be worth it with these limitations? I am not sure- it's not really well explained. It seems all 6 are in the US also, so I guess other countries' souls are safer/get to go to Judgement Day automatically? I feel like that's a pretty small number (or are there others who are not in the flesh? Something else to explain this?). There also do not appear to be term limits and they cannot die, so it's unclear why Dante is the most experienced/oldest of the Collectors, and he's only been dead for 2 years.

Accepting all that, Dante is up for promotion- if he just collects this one soul first. Should be easy-peasy right? Well, he has to give stamps for bad things, and that can take a while (again, surprising that any souls could be collected with 6 Collectors handing out stamps and many stamps needed to seal a soul to be collected). Twist! A contract does exist- previously unbeknownst to the Collectors- where a person can give up their soul in exchange for something.

The soul Dante is sent to collect is Charlie's. She is unattractive, as Dante frequently reminds us. But, you know, she's a good person. So Dante gets her to sign the contract in exchange for beauty. As she becomes more beautiful, Dante becomes more attracted to her and starts liking her and has a change of heart. I could almost see this being an internal struggle not really attached to Charlie, but more of a what-am-I-doing-with-my-afterlife thing, but it was more tied into Charlie and wanting to save her (I think I would have liked it more if it was an internal thing where this tipped the scales). As-is, I could have bought into this more if I really thought he liked her for her, but they only have a couple scenes with some glimpses of more before she becomes more beautiful. Even then, it seemed so sudden, and she trusts easy. The book really latches onto the bad-guy-turned-good-by-girl.

My biggest concerns were about Dante's selfish and jerky personality, mainly things that I didn't think were needed to get the point across. There's the over-the-top denouncement of Charlie and her friends as ugly with plenty of unflattering descriptors which is tough to read (because who among us looks like an air-brushed model?) but you know, he's going to change. Later, after things are "changing," when he takes Charlie and friends to Vegas and Charlie and her female friend are dancing together, he says "I wonder why the slightest bit of booze turns chicks into lesbos." I am not even sure I can explain how offending this sentiment is, and this is supposedly right around the time of his dramatic change. Girls dancing together does not make them sexually attracted to each other, so you aren't "turning" anyone anything. I am pretty sure, at least in this context, lesbos is derogatory and should not be used (Why did that even need to be there? We already know he's just a mean guy all around).

Anyway, beyond those concerns, the book is a fast read with a good pace, and I was interested in The Collector aspect (which seems, to me, to be a new idea even if I still have some questions). Scott is a great writer, and her books always pull me in with the writing. I would have liked some more fleshing out of the job/afterlife and internal struggle with less of the insulting remarks (I think we could have gotten his shallowness without this). Overall, I am left with some mixed feelings.

Please note that I received a copy from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

The first book in the Dante Walker series, The Collector is an amazing read. Told from first person POV, Dante is cocky, arrogant and totally sucks you in to his world. A great story, with great characters I will be reading more and recommending others do the same.

So. I've been eagerly expecting this book for months. Preordered it way months ahead because I wanted to be sure I'd get it. I felt like I needed to know what all the fuss about Dante Walker was. I mean, his name alone screams awesome! So I'm really glad this book and Dante did love up to my expectations.

Dante Walker. Do I have to say more? "He makes good girls... bad." Only that catchphrase alone is enough to make me swoon. This guy is like all of the popular hot, cocky, amazing guys from YA, like Daemon Black, Jace Wayland, Adrian Ivashkov, etc... combined. BUT The Dante is his own character all the same. There's no one like him and I doubt there will ever be one like him again. Like he said in the book, "he's got swag for days". Ain't that the truth!
He's the reason I kept on reading and reading.

I could go on and on about Dante Walker but he's not the only reason why I liked this book so much. You know, I'm usually not at all for angel/demon books. Mostly I really dislike them like say, Hush Hush or Sweet Evil but I really did like The Collector. I love the originality and the idea of Collectors and Liberators. So good! + male point of view will ALWAYS score points with me. I loved it!
I must also say, that it has been a joy reading this because lately with the books I've been reading after a while it turned into a drag but not with The Collector. Victoria Scott's writing was so totally awesome and fastpaced, every time I picked it up I read for a long time and never got bored.

I loved the side characters. My favorites were Max and Valery. Big love for them. And awww the cuteness there. I won't say anything else about it, I don't want to say too much. I probably already did though but just love, man. Love!
But really all of the side characters were great. Even when the story revolved around Dante and Charlie they made it extra cool. And can I just say I loved the way Annabelle and Blue were dressed for Halloween. If you read the book, you'll know what I'm talking about!

The romance was so surprising! I mean, I knew it was coming but I couldn't predict how. Charlie didn't start out as the most beautiful girl ever like most YA girls are. And yet I could slowly see Dante starting to like her more and more. No insta-love here. Thank god!
My favorite thing ever was how you can see Dante slowly changing (for the better). Charlie is so good for him. She brings out the best in him and I love him all the more for how in the he would sacrifice his life for hers. Beautiful romance!

Only slightly negative thing I can say is that I didn't like Charlie from the start. She was too good and pure and I was wondering how in the world Dante would be able to corrupt that girl but when I got to know her better I started to like her more, especially in the end. She got some courage!
So that's why it got 4 stars instead of 5 + I'm still not all to happy about an angel/demon book. I'll probably never will be. But oh well... it was good enough even so.

The end, oh my god the end. One of the best, nerve-wrecking endings ever, I swear! I was totally caught up in the danger and action and there were some serious twists there. Stuff I hadn't seem coming at all. Gotta love that in books! So yeah, I was pretty hooked on this book and Dante.
Can't wait for the next book!

The Collector by Victoria Scott is one amazingly surprising book covered in Awesome Sauce. A hot hero to make all girls melt into puddles of nothing but fangirlness but also lots of action and turn of events to keep the readers on their toes. If I were you I'd keep an eye on Victoria Scott's books. I'm sure this new YA author will dazzle us more in the future with her books.
