This is the second book of the Highland Knights Series and it is a republished book with some changes. Since I just jumped right into book 2, this was my first book in the series and it was good as a standalone. It was not my first book by Jennifer Haymore and I can definitely say that I still love her books! While it is a historical romance, it does quickly jump into some sexy scenes. Camden McLeod is a Highland Knight who is protecting an English aristocrat that is in trouble. That is how Camden shows up in a brothel. Lady Esme Hawkins is doing research for her newest novel (scandalous by itself) and she is “learning” by interviewing the women in the brothel. Esme is an accomplished author, but is keeping it a secret from her family.

I would say that Cam is a bit morally gray when it comes to some of the things he does to interfere in Esme’s life. I mean, I’d be mad 🙂 But it turns out that a mystery is afoot, people are in danger and Cam and Esme have a thing for each other. Overall, I like Esme’s family and they are a fun part of the story. I love the romance between Esme and Cam. They do end up in some steamy scenes quite often. I also love that Esme is an erotic author in her time. Her books are a fun detail in this story. I totally recommend this book. It came out in June 2023, but it would make for a cozy winter read right now!

This is my first time reading something by Ms Haymore and it won't be my last. Strange that Camden McLeod, a Highland Knight sworn to protect the Crown, finds himself acting as a body guard in a brothel. Even more strange that he should meet an innocent and captivating young lady that he is completely drawn to. Lady Esme is secretly an author of racy romances and she is at the brothel doing research for her next novel. If word ever got out about her being there and writing her novels, it would certainly cause a great scandal. When Esme and Cam meet they have an instant attraction to each other and even share a kiss. But when Cam starts asking questions, Esme gets nervous and leaves. When they meet again, Cam learns she is engaged and he is determined to make Esme see that they belong together.
There is passion and romance and also some mystery, as someone from the Highland Knights is murdered and the group is being attacked. The pacing was good and the story flowed smoothly. The characters were well-developed and intriguing and I enjoyed following their story.

Still trying to decide what I think about this one. On the one hand, I loved it! I loved the characters and the storyline, on the other hand I felt it went a bit too long and I was feeling ready for it to be over. Overall, a very cute story about an awkward woman (although I never really felt she was that awkward) who is secretly a romance writer and the man that finds her irresistible.

Fantastic continuation to the Highland Knights.

Reading the story of Cam and Lady Esme was nothing that I have ever read. You hear all the rage about morally grey heros in all mafia and fantasy romances. True villain that will do everything for his girl. oh boy! Cam maybe isn’t a villain in the story but his character is ruthless when it comes to what he wants! A true morally grey character who need saving!

Besides that, very cute and hot romance, we are also getting an interesting and mysterious plot. The story is full of betrayal and danger.

Fantastic! It truly is a must read!

This was my first book by Jennifer Haymore but it won't be the last. Her Scandalous Scot is the second book in the Highland Knights series but I don't believe I missed anything by not reading book 1 first. I suppose I will find out though as I plan to pick up more books by Haymore.

I enjoyed this book. Camden McLeod is the mmc and as a Highland Knight, he is sworn to protect the crown. As the book opens, we find he has been put on a security detail in which he is protecting someone who routinely visits a brothel and the only bright spot to this is that Camden has a run in with an innocent he never expected to be there.

Lady Esme Hawkins is an author of racy romances but she will do everything she can to protect her family. Not only because she loves them...she (they) have a secret that could damage them all. Because of her writing, she carefully disguises herself so she can do research for her books. When she comes face to face with Camden, she's drawn in and doesn't refuse a kiss. Unfortunately, she has an engagement on the horizon and she can't / won't entertain thoughts around doing anything with Camden that could harm her family.

As the story picks up, Cam has decided that he wants Esme for his own. But to do so, he’ll need to give up his rakish ways, embrace his role as heir to the despicable Earl of Sutton, and snuff out a deadly threat to his brothers in arms. He also embraces Esme as she is and recognizes that everything she does isn't necessarily for herself. Because of that, he makes some questionable decisions that put Esme in a position where she is having to justify / face things she never wanted to. I'll admit, Cam was definitely a bit overbearing and made his decisions based on what he wanted and not what Esme wanted. In the end, he was trying to do what he thought was right but he definitely needed to go a different route in my opinion.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. I thought the characters were well developed and the story was interesting. If you're looking for a historical romance to pick up, I recommend picking this book up!

Lady Esme Hawkins has a secret and she wants to protect her family's honour. It is important that her secret is never discovered. She writes romances and secretly visits brothels to conduct research for her books. On one of her research trips, she meets Camden McLeod who is part of the Highland Knights.

I am really enjoying this series. I loved the female lead and the romance between the two characters was good. There is also a mystery element to this story which I enjoyed. Overall this was a really good read and I can't wait for the next one.

I enjoyed this historical romance. I have always liked this authors books and this one did not disappoint. It starts with their unconventional meeting at a brothel , him as a bodyguard and her as a author doing research. They fall in love but have a lot to get through before they get their HEA.

I loved this story so much! There’s just something about a hot Scot with a lot of humor mixed in. The premise and storyline was so different it made it difficult to stop reading. Really looking forward to reading more!

Her Scandalous Scot. Well if the scandal came knocking at Esme and Cam’s door I don’t think that they would care one wit. I enjoyed this book a lot. The plot was engaging and is very realistic. The writer had me intrigued and engaged with all the excitement of romance and the dangers that someone has a bone to pick with theHighland Knight’s. With the knight’s being marked by an unknown enemy Cam fights externally with his loyalty to his duties and wanting and needing to be by Esme side. Honestly I think that you will love reading their story. It’s simply romantic and heartwarming. At times I found myself not wanting to take a break from reading. The book has humor, charm, romance, declarations of honor and protection.
My favorite character of course is Camden, because the man was truly a rake. He is very self assured and confident of himself and how he can seduce a woman with his words. His words work for Esme, but I think that his words needs to be a little more believable for me. The romance be tween Esme and Cam is a steamy with pushes the story towards a wonderful ending.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Camden McLeod is a Highland Knight, sworn to protect the crown, not be a bodyguard for a pompous, over-arrogant lord, in a brothel on the seedier side of London. But that is exactly where he finds himself when he meets the luscious Esme Hawkins who does not seem to fit in with the whole brothel scene. Seemingly innocent and somewhat naïve, Camden can't figure out what she is doing in such a place and how is she on such familiar terms with the madam of the brothel? Is the secret to be found in the notebook that she is clutching with a death grip? He intends to make her and her secrets his business and get himself some answers. After one impulsive kiss Cam knows he wants the lovely Esme for his own, and Cam always gets what he wants, he only needs to convince Esme that he is the one for her.
I am on the shelf about this one. Although it is an entertaining, fast paced read, I feel the characters aren't up to par! Esme is likeable is somewhat unbelievable in some of her interactions with Cam and of what behavior from him she is willing to accept.. As for Cam, well he is high-handed ass that is willing to do just about anything to get what he wants, including betraying Esme's trust not once but twice with his manipulation actions. Don't know if I would have forgiven him at that point. Anyway, as I said it is fast-paced and entertains, but also exasperation and irritating, so take it for what you see, a quick , rather shallow romance with a high-handed, manipulative hero and a naïve, but extremely willing to fall into bed at the drop of a hat with a guy she barely knows!

During reading I am always immersed in my own world, it is seldom I find a book that I can actually escape into a world created by the author.. However, this was indeed a book that I was immersed in the authors world instead of my own! I laughed and smiled and chuckled and shook my head as I read the antics and fallacies of human beings during the reading and enjoyment of this book. I must say the writing by this author was among some of the best I have read in the last few years. She does indeed remind me of authors from the past where so many different elements were involved that it made the book a sincere pleasure. So if you want a book that has romance, humor, mystery, and plots this is indeed a wonderful book for you to pick up! I shall certainly be following this author much closer now after reading this one. I look forward to many more in this series and hope they are all as good or better than this read. I received this ARC from NetGalley, Thank you NetGalley I have posted my honest personal opinion on this book.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/149105541

This book was well-written and fast paced with open-door love scenes. This was my second book by this author, and I was not disappointed. I’ll be reading more of her work.

Camden McLeod, proud, stubborn, big, built Scotsman, A member of the Highland Knights. Very protective of those he loves, loyal to his brother knights and sister.
Cam was the son and heir of the Earl of Sutton, a very disagreeable man.

Lady Esme Hawkins, sister to the Duke of Trent, A shy, reserved woman with a few secrets. She is unofficially engaged to Henry Whitworth, A longtime family friend. They are not a love match and each knows this.

Cam and the Highland Knight are tasked to guard the EknightsPinfield, who is getting death threats. As the knights take turns on guard duty, Cam is surprised to meet Lady Esme at on of the Earl's favorite haunts. He becomes intrigued and wants to know more about her when she is wished away from him. He tells her they will meet again.

They do meet again at a dinner her brother is hosting and she is shocked in seeing him thinking she would not ever see him after their first meeting. Now she is intrigued by him and thinks she should marry Henry more than ever. Cam tells her no don't and the battle begins with the two trying to control HER life and choices.

Cam does a few dumb things hoping to get Esme to realize he is the better man, but this only confuses Esme more. After Cam finds out one of her secrets, she is stunned to see it is ok, until he does another dumb thing. When things start to happen with the knights that cause issues.

Does Esme secrets get revealed and to whom? What does Cam do that is dumb and hurts Esme? Does Esme forgive Cam? What is happening with several of the knights?

Join the mystery of secrets and romance. As you read this fun, exciting story you discover that men really don't get romance until they almost lose it. Great characters and detailed plotting make this so enjoyable

This is a new author for me, very much will have to get more from her.

Well written, fast paced, enjoyable story. Cam and Esme meet and instantly make a connection. Both are trying to fit into their own and are able to come together. The love scenes are spicy.

What started out as a raging case of insta-lust turned into so much more. Awkward Esme and handsome Cam met under some rather bizarre circumstances. Technically, they met at work! Unfortunately, danger and scandal followed closely behind them. Additionally, both of them had secrets in their pasts that they were reluctant to share. Cam was an extreme alpha hero. He would do anything to get what he wanted. His relationship with Esme made him strive to become a better man. I found the character of Esme to be very refreshing. Unlike many other heroines, she wasn't out there trying to save the world. She was lucky to have found a hobby that turned into a source of income.
This scorching hot novel also had some intrigue, humor and family drama. Events in the previous book are mentioned but this story does work as a standalone. I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

3 Stars! This is the second book in the ‘Highland Knights’ series and can be read as a standalone. This was previously released as ‘Highland Awakening’ but is now ‘Her Scandalous Scot’. This was an instant lust/love romance and everything moved pretty fast, especially the ‘sexy times’. The main characters are Esme and Cam. Cam was a real ‘Richard’ for most of the book and I couldn’t really like him since he was such an arrogant jerk most of the time. I did enjoy the story because I couldn’t see what was coming, I was surprised at who the bad guy was at the end and I’m usually good at figuring that out. It’s a good book but I wish there was more romance and falling in love instead of the instant love that this mostly was.
