I had high hopes for this book and they didn’t quite meet. Some of the text felt forced and didn’t flow. I liked the idea. I just didn’t think it full met its potential. I will use it for some students who need the message.

When anxiety increases, it’s very difficult to stay calm … even for adults! This beautifully illustrated story (Ella Okstad) written by Rachel Morrisroe is the perfect tool to bridge anxiety with children. The story is charming and funny and is written in rhyming verse, perfect for the little people in your life.

This story features a little boy named Alex Allen. Alex worries … a lot. Each time he is anxious about something, a llama appears. That’s not the worst of it! The more Alex worries, the bigger the llama grows. When he discovers that his worrying is getting him into trouble, he realizes that he needs to control his emotions and stay calm. For those of us who’ve been there … that’s not an easy task. Morrisroe’s adventure with Alex and the mischievous llama is the perfect gateway to discussions surrounding children’s anxiety. It’s guaranteed to produce giggles and gasps!

Second to the wonderful illustrations, my favourite part is the ‘How To Calm A Llama’ page at the end of the book. Morrisroe has offered 5 tips to get us out of a “full blown drama llama”.

This is one of those books you’ll want to purchase to gift a little person in your life!

I was gifted this copy by SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
