The cover on this is great, and so is the title. I love a good YA mystery/thriller. Add the aspect of survival and I'm there!
The premise sounded great, I just don't think it was really executed super well. I knew what I was getting into, but the reason for such high tension felt really weak?
I know that they're teenagers, so small things are bigger deals, but they just seemed so far past that. Their age compared to the drama they hated each other over and what they did because of it did not all match.
The survival part was the best part honestly. I think this was alright, but it wasn't a satisfying read.

I had really high hopes for this one. I always feel like first impressions of a book are really important and the first few chapters can make or break a book for someone. In this case for me, the first chapter didn't give me a great first impression. Because of that, I didn't find myself eager to pick this one up. I thought it would be a quick read (since it's under 300 pages), but it took be a bit longer than expected because I just wasn't invested in the story.
The thing that kind of rubbed me the wrong way was just how petty and passive aggressive both girls were right out the gate. There was no disguising their animosity at all. I especially didn't love how Natasha was portrayed. I don't think there was opportunity to form our own opinion of her because she started with the passive aggressive drama as soon as Lily got in the car. I know this is YA and the girls were basically returning from college visits, but the little digs and snide remarks were incredibly annoying and it was really hard to care about where the story was going or any of the characters. All of the drama stems from something that happened in middle school and it read like the girls were still in middle school not about to go to college.
I'm so bummed this was a miss for me because the premise sounded very intriguing. I think this may work better for a younger teen audience.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for an early copy. All opinions are my own.

The premise sounded good and the intensity of a wildfire set an expectation for me. Unfortunately, only the last 1/4 of the book met those expectations.
The three main characters bickered over the same event from middle school for most of the book. There was multiple times they forgave each other only to turn around and fight again.
If you like a survival story with a bit of revenge plot this book is for you.
Thanks to @netgalley and @sourcebooksfire for providing the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley for this copy of “10 Hours to Go” by Keely Parrack!
It was so so tension filled and suspenseful. I learned through this reading experience that i loove ya thrillers. I’m so glad to read more now.
I highly recommend it.

I really wanted to like this more. I tried to tell myself that just because I wouldn't ask my ex best friend for a ride back home that doesn't mean anything. I told myself that this is YA and not for me. I tried to put myself in the mind frame of this being my first YA thriller. And if it was....then yes, I feel like I would have enjoyed it more. However, I will say that this would probably be better as a movie.

A college visit turns into something more for Lily Williams, after she has to accept a ride from an unexpected person. It’s fire season in Oregon, and with this California girl’s return trip cancelled due to a fire, she climbs into Natasha’s car.
The girls were friends once, but that changed with the arrival of Elke Azizi, who is also along for this return trip from Portland.
It’s clear that Elke and Natasha are still good friends, and Lily quickly feels this road trip take a turn, but she has no idea just how much they’ll go through together. After all, Portland’s just 10 hours from home, right?
Not during fire season. Lily, Natasha, and Elke are determined to get home. Scared, but determined. And the journey they go on is one that will change their lives.
Partial builds the tension and suspense, while giving clues and slowly divulging the girls’ history in a way that keeps a reader hooked.
This was a gripping coming-of-age tale that I couldn’t put down!

I love a good YA survival thriller but this fell a little short for me. I think it would be better maybe for younger YA readers. There were things I did enjoy like the tension with the fire blazing around the girls as they try to escape. The prank the two girls played on Lily was cruel but definitely heightened the stakes. I always enjoy a good Mean Girls vibe in stories. I appreciated Lily's desperation to get home to her mother, it humanized her. However, Lily's "revelation" about what really happened during middle school felt anti-climactic and seemed to come out of nowhere. Arguing about the incident over and over slowed the story down somewhat. It also seemed to come up at inopportune moments when they're trying to escape a blazing inferno. The dialogue felt a little stilted at times. Overall, I'd recommend to younger YA readers who are interested in reading survival wilderness stories.

This book had me on the edge of my seat.
There are 3 main characters, Lily, Natasha and Elke.
Lily was visiting a college and Natasha's mom is having her give Lily a ride home. On the way, they pick up Elke. Lily got her expelled in middle school. Both Natasha and Elke have not forgotten. The ride is very tense with all 3. Then there are the wildfires nearby. The women want to stop so they get off and things go from bad to worse with wrong directions and tricks played on one another.
It was a very engaging book and great character development.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the premise, wasn't a huge fan on the execution.
10 Hours to Go follows Lily as she navigates getting home from visiting colleges when a fire warning cancels her train. She has to get a ride with her ex-bff Natasha as well as Elke, the girl Lily got expelled when they were 12. What starts as a tense and awkward ride quickly turns to one fraught with danger as the wildfires grow nearby. The three of them are trapped in the woods with fire all around them as they try to deal with their lingering hatred of one another.
I think a lot of teens and tweens will enjoy with book. It's dramatic and petty and vicious in the way tween/teen girls can be. It keeps you captivated as you're reading as the tense situations grow and it leaves you curious as to what is going on and who you're supposed to root for.
That being said, it wasn't really for me. I thought the girls were a bit too petty and dramatic, especially considering the age of the main characters. And, as someone who has read a fair amount of books in this thriller/survival genre, the twists were really predictable for me.
Overall, not a bad read and one I would recommend to students if they like survival stories with tense, dramatic, action with girls lost in the woods and a huge threat looming over them.

An okay YA thriller!
This wasn't anything spectacular. I felt that the dialogue between the characters was a bit juvenile, even being young adult.
The constant back and forth between the girls arguing, then saying sorry, then arguing again gave me whiplash. The tension/dislike between them would've still been portrayed without the nonstop bickering. It was exhausting and made me not like any of the characters.
I was hoping this was more of a "survival" type of thriller, but it mainly focused on the relationship between the girls, with a bit of a survival thrill thrown in here and there.
The ending redeemed this one for me and bumped it up to 3 stars.

I was excited to read 10 Hours To Go because it seemed like it was going to be a tense thriller, but it was not what I was expecting. There were some tense moments but there weren’t many thrills. The characters were insufferable and they mainly argued with each other for most of the story. It seemed like this past incident when they were in middle school was brought up constantly to the point it just became annoying. The pacing felt too slow in parts and it didn’t seem like much happened until the end. I just didn’t care what happened to any of the characters and I was just waiting for the book to end. This story started off promising and I was really hoping to like it, but this one just wasn’t for me. You might enjoy this book if you’re looking to read a ya survival story. If you are looking for a gripping thriller, I would skip this one.

Thank you Sourcebooks Fire and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
This book wasn't for me. While I'm much older then the characters, I can't imagine acting so irresponisbly when I or my friends were the same age. The characters were immature, the conflict seemed silly and there was a lot of telling instead of showing.

I was first drawn to this book because it takes place in Oregon during wildfire season. Plus the revenge plot, sign me up. This book was a compulsive read for me. I found myself reading late into the night. I kept reading thinking something big was going to happen. Sadly, this book was a lot of annoyingly repetitive bickering and over the top events used to propel the plot. I honestly feel like the revenge plot in the synopsis was misleading. Not a lot of revenge takes place. The plot is also so over the top in parts, I found myself laughing. So much potential with the plot, it just needed more flushing out.
This is probably a good YA for a young reader who is just starting out with thrillers. Someone who can better relate to the constant bickering and minimal scares.

So, this book just did not grab me as the reader. There is nothing wrong with the book, but it sadly didn’t grab my attention and hold on to it like I was hoping that it would. This is not to say that others might like the book, it just felt flat to me. The characters were so so. The storyline, while it had a couple of reveals the rest just seemed to mosey along with a couple of exciting moments that just didn’t outweigh the slower ones. Thank you so very much to Sourcebook Fire and Netgalley for allowing me to review an advance copy of this book.

Thank you to the author, publishers, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I liked this story much more than I anticipated. Three "friends" got lost on their way home and find themselves stuck in a massive wildfire. With no way out but in do they band together or set out separately? I loved that the author didn't do the predictable "we're bff now". Great read and highly recommend if you're into YA.

Dreadfully boring. Lost in the woods several times, lots of fires, petty teen drama that drags on with little to no character development. Eh.

10 Hours to Go follows Lily who wants to get home from college. Her train from Oregon to California was canceled due to a fire warning. Her ex-best friend Natasha has offered to pick her up. Natasha and Lily have not spoken in years. Lily find out that another one of her ex-friends Elke will be joining them. Elke is the girl that Lily got expelled from school four years ago. Neither Natasha or Elke have forgotten about what Lily did and they are out for revenge. Soon they decide to take a detour because of the fires. It soon becomes clear that leaving the main road was a mistake. Now they are all trapped in the woods and they have to put aside their differences in order to survive. Will they make it out alive?
This book sounded like it was going to be so great, but it was a letdown for me. I did like the whole survival accept of this book. It really did keep me on the edge of my seat. But that was about the only thing I liked about this book. The drama in this book was super childish and felt very unrealistic. A lot of the book focuses on that and it got super annoying and repetitive. I also felt like the characters were pretty boring and not well thought out. The only thing about these characters that we really learned was that they have drama with each other. The plot twists in this story were super predictable and not that shocking. This book felt unfished to me. I think the story needed to be way more flushed out.
Thank you so much Sourcebooks Fire and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************
Lily wants to get home. Her friends want to get even.
Lily needs a ride—a fire warning in Oregon has cancelled her train home to California. Her ex-best friend, Natasha, has offered to pick Lily up on her way back from Portland, though they're barely on speaking terms. As it turns out, Natasha's also giving a ride to Elke Azizi, the girl Lily got expelled from their school four years ago. Elke hasn't forgotten, and neither has Natasha.
It's getting tense in the car, and it's not just about the past. There's smoke in the air, and with the wildfires nearby, staying on the road is becoming riskier by the hour. When Natasha and Elke decide to take a detour, Lily hopes it'll get them out of danger. She has no idea, though, what her former friends have planned for her.
But as night comes, the plans change again when it becomes all too clear that leaving the main road was a mistake. Now the three of them are trapped in the woods under a burning sky, with no easy way out. To survive, Lily must depend on Elke and Natasha—but after all that's happened, can she trust them with her life?
This is a great YA-ish read - full of tension and suspense and wondering who or what (the fire) will be the victor?? Well written, gripping and satisfying, I will recommend this to all age groups especially those who were choked by our Canadian wildfire smoke last year for if it turns orange in NYC they can imagine how bad the fire can be.

PS I still cannot link to LinkedIn .. ironic, right??

This was a fast paced, easy to read YA thriller. I enjoyed the tension between Lily and her former friends; as someone with social anxiety the idea of being stuck in a car with people who don't like me hit different.
The story escalated quickly and moved along at a nice clip. The characters seemed excessively juvenile at times; but they're road tripping teenagers, so it didn't feel totally unbelievable. Harder to relate to as someone steeping in "the perspective of age," but I'm sure teens and young adults who enjoy thrillers will have a good time with this.
I'm perhaps not the primary demographic for this novel, but it was still a fun, quick read.

This book totally caught me off guard. I finished it in 2 days, which hasn't happened to me in ages. I wouldn't have put it down if I didn't need to get off the train.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This book nearly made me cry on the train.
I loved how the characters and their relationship were written. I'm not usually one for road trip books, but I guess this wasn't your typical road trip book...
