I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was a bit straightforward in terms of the plot and it didn't feel like the reader or characters were trying to figure out the mystery - but that it was simply happening to them. The epilogue containing the twist simply explained it all away, when that twist and clues should have been integrated into the main story, not just written as a Gotcha! at the end.

B.A. Paris can do no wrong! Another perfect thriller wrapped up in a bow. The storytelling was magnificent, and I literally could not put it down. Five huge stars and one of my best reads of 2023!
Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this ARC in return for an honest review.

The Guest is a good psychological thriller about a couple, their daughter, and their friends. Many good twists and turns keep you guessing right to the very end.

B.A Paris has been a favorite of mine so I was excited to be given this ARC by the publisher and Netgalley! I loved the beginning of this book when the two main characters arrived home to find an unexpected houseguest with no departure date known. I enjoyed the friction between the women.. not wanting your friend to stay any longer but trying to understand her unfortunate marital situation. It wasn't long before drama, lies and deceit unravel between the friends and neighborhood.
It wasn't my favorite by this author however the twists and turns kept me reading to uncover the truth.
Thanks again Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was disappointed with this book. It took me forever to get interested in reading it. The story line dragged. It was predictable and obvious that the author was trying to make you believe otherwise. I wouldn't recommend this book. This is definitely not the best work by this author. Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for this advanced copy. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

Firstly, I would like to thank NetGalley, Barnes and Noble and the books author, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are that of my own and have not been influenced by other opinions or reviews.
Another win for BA Paris, her skill for a suspense filled read is like no other. Another enthralling, mind blowing read by the master of Physiological thrillers!!

Engaging story that kept me on my toes! It was easy to get attached to the characters and emerged in the story. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

I love reading B.A. Paris books and this one did not disappoint! It was a twisty psychological thriller that will hold you in suspense from the beginning until the last page of the book.
When Laure, a family friend, comes to stay with Iris and her husband then extended stay begins to add more turmoil to their marriage. Secrets and lies from the past and present will draw you in keeping you on the edge of your seat. I kept say9ing to myself that I would read for only five more minutes because I couldn't put down the book. The ending alone is such a shock for that alone you need to read this asap.

B.A. Paris is a must-read author for me and this one did not disappoint. It is twisty and can drag at times as there are a lot of characters and a variety of subplots, but the end will leave you stunned. I can definitely recommend it for those who enjoy psychological or domestic thrillers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc.
I did not expect this ending! I didn’t get into the book into 60 or 70% but once I hit there I couldn’t put it down! Great twist at the end!

Wow! You did it again! B.A. Paris was able to capture my attention right away and keep me engaged the whole way through. But the ending! Amazing! You got me again!

A slow burn thriller with INCREDIBLE twists. A bit slow with the character development, but I did enjoy the day to day life of Iris and Gabriel, especially with their new neighbors! The book weaves multiple different storylines together quite masterfully, which leads to a shocking ending. I love to try and guess how the ending will be, but NO WAY you will see this one coming.
Overall, a solid slow-burn thriller, definitely recommend!!
thank you NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

I found this book to be slow and somewhat boring for a majority of the plot. The characters were unappealing and all that ever seemed to happen throughout the book was a lot of conversation but no real major twists or drama until almost the end. The last 5% of the book was the most exciting part of the whole book for me.

This book is about a couple who comes home from a vacation and notice that someone is or was in there home. Next they knew, the person was at the top of the stairs. Phew! It's their friend, Laure! Laure came to visit last minute due to some marital problems. How long will she stay!? Will she ever leave? What is going on? Where is Pierre? People are dropping like flies! Are they truly accidents or is something more going on?
This book is told from a few different perspectives and time frames. Some timesnit becomes a little hard to decipher where you are in time and in which conversation. After reading those parts a couple times, you can figure it out pretty quick. It was a slower burn for me, but it did capture my attention pretty quick. I guessed what was going on but wanted to read on to confirm my suspicions. Super quick read and captivating!

I've read other books by BA Paris and enjoyed them. Often they have the suspenseful action early in the novel and readers anxiously await the resolution. The Guest was different. There are multiple story lines occurring simultaneously and I connected with Iris. I found her to be a genuine and caring character; someone I wanted to see good things happen for her. So the epilogue took me by surprise.

Wow, the body count on this book ramps up quickly! I actually enjoy that, books that have not just one but a few different murders to solve. It helps keep readers guessing, especially those of us that read a ton of thrillers.
It is often said that killers are not necessary very smart, but often very lucky. The killer in this book was exactly that. So many factors conspired to let them get away with murder. While they were clever in many places there were so many things that made this possible.
I remember being told when I was young that when you tell one lie, you have to keep lying to cover up the first and on and on forever. That is exactly the advice I would have given to the killer here: don't tell the first lie. However they did and got in too deep to get out safely.
I quite enjoyed this book as it kept me guessing and was very different to where I thought it was going.

I wanted to love this one, but it just seemed to fall flat.
I was so excited to read this after loving Behind Closed Doors. However this one felt like it was dragging at points which made me less inclined to pick this one up.
It wasn’t horrible by any means. B.A. Paris has a great writing style, I just don’t think this one was for me!

Like the other B.A. Paris books I read this story is a fast paced, want to read one more chapter before I go to bed story. This is a true psychological thriller that keeps the twist and guessing coming all the way to the end of the book. The first chapter was a little confusing because it takes place during a later time in the story and includes characters who are not introduced early on. I do promise it all comes together and makes sense as you read on. The guest, Laure, shows up unexpectantly and uninvited when a married couple returns home. Laure is very good friends with the couple and the godmother to their daughter. She initially gives the impression that she will be staying with them short term due to issues with her husband. As time goes on she gets more comfortable staying with the couple with no real plan to leave. She begins to overstay her welcome which now causes numerous problems, lies, and secrets to be revealed. The ending alone makes me recommend this book.
Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love B.A. Paris. When I first read one of her books, I binged read her entire back list within a week. These books are easy to read and they hook you! This one is no different. I absolutely loved this one as well and can't wait to read more of her books!

B.A. Paris has written some of my favorite books, the way the author builds up the story line is phenomenal. This book just didn't do it for me, it wasn't grabbing my attention and I struggled to get through it. Iris and Gabriel are great friends with Laure and Pierre, one day Laure shows up to Iris and Gabriels house stating Pierre has a child with someone else. She speculates who it could be but doesn't know for sure, Iris and Gabriel are happy to let her stay with them but Laure starts overstaying her welcome. She starts wearing Iris's clothes and following her around. Iris and Gabriel are trying to get Laure and Pierre back together but things aren't lining up. I did not see the ending coming but this book was a very slow burn for me.
