I was looking forward to reading my third BA book. I had high expectations after reading Behind Closed Doors and the Therapist. This book felt short in overall pacing and keeping track of multiple characters. I always appreciate BA’s ability to throw in the twist. My expectations may have been overly high. Unfortunately, the storyline and the depiction of the unreliable characters left me wanting more.

Wow!!! This book really threw me for a loop! Everything that I thought I knew turned out NOT to be true. I really do love books like this! I have enjoyed all the books by this author and this one did not disappoint! Friendships and family dynamics are always messy on their own without any outside forces acting upon them, and this book takes a huge messiness and makes it even messier! I am not one that likes to give too many details in my reviews because I don't want to give too much away, but all I can say is watch out for the unexpected!!! I will definitely recommend this book to my coworkers and mu adult reader friends! This is gonna be another bestseller!!!

B.A. Paris does it again! I really enjoyed the mystery of this book and was overall invested in the story and what was happening. I did feel that the pace was a little slower than I usually enjoy, but I was still kept guessing and was surprised by the ending. Can’t wait to see what’s next from B.A. Paris!

Another freebie from @netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I’d read another book by this author so I was optimistic. For the first 80% of the book, the characters are living their lives, dealing with their demons and leaving the reader to guess which guest is the title character. Once all is revealed in the last 20% of the book, it’s kind of a let down. Also, British people are just too polite. If I’d had a house guest who just showed up on my doorstep, started wearing my clothes and showed no signs of leaving, I would have spoken up and told said house guest it was time to go.

The Guest was a slow-paced thriller. It was not my favorite book I have read by B.A. Paris but it was a decent read.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review! In this book, a couple comes home to one of their good friends living there unexpectedly. They welcome her and for weeks she is on edge due to some marital issues. Finally, they decide enough is enough and she has to go. Of course, this is where the plot thickens. I just found it too be much too slow for my liking. The story drug on and on all the way to the epilogue. That was my favorite chapter of the whole thing and it really changed alot so definitely read all the way through. I would have liked if those loose ends could have been tied up much sooner though as all suspense was lost at that point and I just didn’t care anymore. This book just wasn’t it for me.

I have read a few of BA Paris' books and this one did not disappoint. I feel like that some of the storylines were a bit drawn out, but the plot twist at the end was worth it. I could not put this book down and finished it in one morning!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC read.

I hated the vapid characters and didn't care what became of them. I didn't even finish it to see how it ended

I love B.A. Paris, and this was no exception!! Her books always keep me hooked and the twist are always fun to see.

Laure drove me crazy and made me want to scream several times. I really wanted Iris and Gabriel to kick her out!! But I enjoyed the mystery and the suspense kept me going. I also enjoyed hearing the story and secrets of all the characters.

Thank you so much for approving me for the ARC!

📖 I received this digital copy from @netgalley, @baparisauthor and @stmartinspress and I loveeeddd it!⁣ Keep an eye out for this one, coming February 20, 2024!

This was another one that I read on vacation and I couldn’t put it down. ⁣

Iris and Gabriel come back from vacation to find their friend Laure living in their house because her husband revealed that he had a child with someone else… weeks go by with no resolution and finally it’s discovered that Laure’s husband is now dead.. who’s to blame??

It was a tad predictable but figuring it out early didn’t stop me from enjoying from start to finish.

B.A. Paris is back with her seventh novel, “The Guest”. Paris is one of those authors I’ve followed right from the beginning and after reading nearly all of her novels, I never say “no” when given the oppourtunity to check out her newest work!
Iris and Gabriel are happily married, with a daughter spending her gap year in Greece and great friends, Laure and Pierre, who they spend time with in Paris. But when Gabriel witnesses a tragedy, Iris does all she can to support her husband in hopes that he will be able to recover. Then Laure moves in after the dissolution of her marriage with Pierre and she soon overstays her welcome, wearing Iris’ clothes, spending every waking moment in Iris’ shadow and even spending time with Iris’ new neighbours. Iris and Gabriel are desperate for Laure to leave so they can have their own space again but they can’t get in touch with Pierre, who hasn’t been in contact with the couple in weeks, and, in desperation, they turn to the gardener, Joseph, who has developed a connection with Laure but has a seedy and shady past.
“Guest” has a handful of characters but Iris is the protagonist. Guilt and sympathy tie her to Laure, and she’s uncomfortable asking her to leave, even though she is infringing on Iris’ privacy and interfering in her marriage and career. Which is also how the reader begins to feel about Laure- initial feelings of sympathy that develop into annoyance and irritation. Right away, the reader connects with Iris through shared feelings of Laure, and the plot just gets better from there.
Of course, because it’s Paris, there’s twist after twist, especially as the bodies start piling up. Friends and neighbours become suspects, and it isn’t until the very end that the truth is revealed, and I never saw it coming. A full-on jaw-dropping unexpected ending doesn’t happen often, but I can always count on Paris to deliver.
“Guest” is a page-turner from the start, and I flew through the pages, pulled right into the captivating plot and the suspenseful story line. B.A. Paris manages to create one domestic suspense novel after another- with each one just as entertaining as the last. If she keeps writing, I will keep reading!

I got this from @netgalley but then also won the physical book from @goodreads
I have enjoyed every book that I’ve read by BA Paris so I was very excited about this! I would say it was kind of a slow burning #domesticdrama that didn’t really pick up for me till near the end but it for sure kept me entertained and distracted while on the treadmill lol the ending was def not what I had expected !!!! I love that it really was fully concluded and cleared up Nicole tightly wrapped ending !

If you love a good #whodoneit #whodunnit or #domesticthriller this is a good book for you ! Let me know if you figure it out / keep me posted on what you think as you read !

Happy reading

This was a solid read. Good suspense, but I feel like the side plot was unnecessary. Still a good book!

I absolutely loved Behind Closed Doors, but this one was not for me.
I didn't see the twist coming, which I enjoyed, but I found the characters frustrating and the plot moved a little too slowly.
Thank you for the opportunity to read!

I wanted to love this book and I did thoroughly enjoy it for the most part, but the ending was so off-putting for me that it changed my rating.

When Gabriel and Iris return from a trip they find their longtime friend Laure staying in their home. As the story unfolds pain and deceit are discovered. However, the way this story is told the mystery is long-winded and goes around and around as the same facts and pain are restated.
The initial pages of the novel are very confusing and the epilogue ended up being the most compelling and entertaining portion of the book.
I normally love B.A. Paris, but unfortunately this book was a big miss for me. I actually skipped several chapters and I was about to give up on it, but read something I found intriguing right where I skipped to so I went back and finished the rest of the book, but overall it was not the best.
I would give it 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 for this rate system.

Thank you to B.A. Paris, St. Martin Press, and NetGalley for gifting me an ARC of this book.

Iris and Gabriel are surprised when their longtime friend Laure arrives at their home, saying she walked out on her husband Pierre after discovering he had a secret affair and love child. Iris and Gabriel's house guest will unveil many secrets.

I enjoyed this book and had no idea how it would end the entire time I read it. The ending was shocking and unexpected, making the whole book come together. The author did a great job with character development, and I enjoyed getting to know all of them.

Behind closed doors was not my favorite book, but I feel that Paris did an excellent job on this one, and I am ready for the next book.!

This book kept me hooked and at the edge of my seat! I will admit the first chapter I was very confused with all the characters but as I read, it started becoming more clear who was who. I was sure I had it all figured out and as the twists and turns kept coming I was wrong. The epilogue at the end, I was not expecting at all and for that, this was a good thriller!

B.A. Paris has done it again! Iris and Gabriel are empty nesters while their daughter Beth is off doing humanitarian work in Greece. Gabriel is suffering from PTSD from a recent incident at the quarry by their house and Iris is missing her daughter and isn't able to talk to her as much as she'd like. She's a little lost and having an unexpected house guest isn't really helping.

While out for a walk, Iris meets a new woman in town, Esme. While they are about the same age, Esme is pregant with her first child just as Iris has been abandoned by her adult child. Esme and her husband, Hamish, prove to be a breath of fresh air that Iris desperately needs. And when it turns out their gardener can help with some projects around Iris and Gabriel's house, it seems like kismet.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (lol), Iris and Gabriel's old friend, Laure, isn't going anywhere. She left her husband after finding out something shocking from his past and has no plans to return.

It seems like a lot is going on, and it is! But, Paris keeps each storyline in it's own lane until it's time for them all to converge in a twisty, surprising way.

Special thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review. This one releases February 20!

After absolutely loving The Therapist by BA Paris, this was a bit of a disappointment unfortunately. The entire book I was on the edge of my seat, trying to piece together what happened, who killed who, etc, and I was really enjoying it. But the epilogue really didn’t do it for me. I was hoping everything was going to be explained in a crazy wrapped up way, but I was just a bit disappointed. It was a surprising ending, but there was no massive twist or shock factor, it was sort of anti-climactic. But that didn’t kill my rating too much, I still gave it 3/5 stars because I did really enjoy the plot and premise for the rest of the book. Still love BA Paris and can’t wait to read more of their books though!
