After hearing an interview with the author, Daniel Finkelstein, on the History Hit podcast, I knew I wanted to read this book. Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the advance copy.
Finkelstein recounts both his parents' stories, alternating between "Mum" and "Dad", before, during and after World War II. He tells their parallel stories compellingly, with just enough background information to provide context without overwhelming the personal narratives.
This title would make an excellent book club selection.
