Wow!!! What a great book and audiobook. This is my first book by author Audrey Cole .and now I have a new author to read. This audiobook held my interest from beginning to end too.
Sloan and Ethan were great characters. I wasn't sure where it was going all the way to the end.
Thank you Net Galley for the audio.
The cover and title of this book drew me in right away! Great design!
If you're looking for a thriller that isn't too predictable, this is 'The One.'
Sloane's husband cheated on her and she feels the need to get even and do it back. Unfortunately for her she ends up involved in a murder as a direct result of the affair. Her husband, on the force, ends up as the lead investigator...
Sloane is determined to prove her innocence and save her marriage in this thrilling tale.
Thank you NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for an advanced copy/audiobook listen!
This book was a thrill ride. I didn't know who to root for because they were all terrible people. I didn't really like the sudden ending but it was a pretty good audiobook.
I love a thriller that keeps me guessing and this one definitely did that! Sloane and Ethan were both interesting characters and I was rooting for their marriage. I enjoyed how both of their careers factored into the story. The Seattle setting was an added bonus.
Thank you Net Galley for this ARC.

While I did not LOVE this thriller there was lots of lies, affairs and trouble. The story was good in theory. The MC were both so weird with each other and it didn't seem genuine.
To save their marriage, Sloane must forgive her husband's affair. Instead, she tries a more tempting option-settling the score. But will it prove to be a deadly mistake?
ER doctor Sloane Marks is shattered when she learns her husband Ethan slept with his partner at Seattle Homicide. She considers leaving him and joining The One, having gone to college with the popular dating app's billionaire founder, Brody Carr. But at forty-two, Sloane feels she has no choice but to forgive Ethan if she wants a chance at creating the family she never had.
Months later, Sloane bumps into Brody, who's recently returned to Seattle. In due time, Ethan worries she's cheating. His suspicions are confirmed when he learns the rich app founder took Sloane on a freediving excursion in the San Juan Islands. Soon after, Brody's famous wife dies in an accident. Ethan becomes the lead investigator in her death, which he suspects wasn't at accident at all.
Caught between a distrusting husband and a powerful billionaire who protects his secrets at all costs, Sloane is in a fight for her life. And the only way out is to take matters into her own hands.
After her husband has an affair, Sloane is hopeful that an affair of her own will not only even the score but also improve her marriage. When she reconnects with her old friend, and current billionaire, Brody things heat up quickly. But as Sloane turns away from the affair and towards her husband Brody is not ready to let go and elevates the situation putting Sloane at risk of losing everything, even her life.
This was a quick read told from both Sloane and her husbands POV's. I enjoyed getting inside both of their heads, telling a more well rounded and twisty story. The first part of this book just feels like a revenge story, but things quickly heat up after the first twist. As the story unfolds we get to know a little bit more about each character and doubts about each begin to bloom. With twists along the way this is a story about revenge and how far someone will go for the life that they want.
If you're looking for a quick read with some thrilling twists, this is a great choice.

The One
A Thriller
Audrey J Cole
Sloane Marks is an ER doctor married to Ethan, a police detective. When she discovered he had an affair with his partner she was devastated. She still loved him but couldn’t forgive him. She begins an affair with Brody Carr, her lab partner in college, now a billionaire. The affair had everything to do with revenge; she wanted Ethan to feel the pain that she felt. Brody was separated from his wife a young, beautiful Australian model. Ethan suspected the affair shortly after it began but did nothing about it thinking Sloane would forgive him if she were unfaithful too.
As you know two wrongs do not make a right. While seeking revenge, dig two graves—one for yourself. Sloane found herself trapped in a dangerous situation, one that could end her career and put her in prison. Brody wasn’t the nice man she went to college with. Her husband was angry. Sloane was desperate. Her mother-in-law gave her a piece of advice, do what ever is necessary to keep the man you love. (that’s not a direct quote but a paraphrase.) That’s when Sloan knew what she had to do.
This was a domestic thriller, but you must put aside your logical reasoning to truly enjoy the plot. Sloane was supposed to be a brilliant doctor, but she sure made some stupid decisions in her personal life. Let’s see an affair to enact revenge on her husband. Go off for a weekend with a man she hadn’t seen for many years. Lie to her husband. Ethan wasn’t any wiser than Sloane; he thought her having an affair would benefit their marriage. Then he got angry. Brody was not a good guy; a lot of bad stuff comes out about him before the end of the book. Then comes the big finish…Sloane may have been smarter than I gave her credit. This book has several twists but the one at the ending was a bit shocking, (I can’t tell you about it, read the book.)
This was the first book I have listened to by Audrey Cole. I wasn't disappointed in it. There are some slow moments but I say that often with thrillers. There are twist and turns galore! I would definitely recommend giving this a listen!
Thank you NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for allowing me to listen to this ARC for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed the storyline. Domestic drama with cheating and murders. Non of the characters were likeable or relatable. You would think an er doctor wouldn’t make such emotional decisions. The husband made some dumb moves as well. And let me not get into the side piece man.
Note on the narrators. It sounded very robotic. The woman did better only when she did exaggerated voices not for the main girl voice.
I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.
Domestic suspense wrapped in crime fiction as a physician's affair turns deadly and her detective husband is forced to take the case. The twists orchestrated by the protagonist are Machiavellian. I could not decide whether or not the epilogue added to the story. The narrator was very enjoyable and understandable..
Sloane (doctor), after discovering her husband Ethan's (police detective) infidelity, decides to seek revenge by engaging in an affair. There were a lot of twists and turns in this story and I did not want to put it down. My only con is that I felt the pregnancy talk was irrelevant to the story especially considering they are an older couple in their 40s. Nothing wrong with pregnancy at 40+ but I just didn’t enjoy it with this particular story.
This book was not enjoyable to me. I felt that part of this was the narration as I did not like the voices or the acting of either narrator. My biggest problem with this book was that the twoMCs were not likeable. I kept asking myself why they were attempting to stay together when they seemingly hated each other. I thought the premise was interesting but unfortunately this book missed the mark for me.
Okay this book had me completely hooked by around 20%, and I didn’t want to put it down! I really enjoyed it!
A twisted and psychological thriller set among the first responders making for an intriguing tale of deception, murder and overwhelming dread. Making you want to question the main protagonist's motives!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Sadly, this didn't do much for me. In a plot full of unlikable characters, it was hard to root for anyone introduced in the text. This was a thriller that was not very thrilling.
Loved this book! The twists and the turns. I did not expect that ending! Like it never even crossed my mind 🤯
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very interesting read and I liked the dual points of view of Ethan and Sloane. Everything that Sloane orchestrated in the book was just so wild and it was a testament to the desperate measures some will go to in order to get what they want. She is ruthless.
Wow! This one, The One, takes quite a turn! Mix an ER doctor wife and a police detective husband along with two affairs (one of them with a billionaire) and things move along quickly, constantly twisting. I liked the originality of the storyline.
The narration is clear and well paced but the voices do sound computer generated.
Thank You to NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this this ARC.

Okay, so here's the deal. This book took me a while to get into. Initially, it was unnecessarily slow to get moving, and the writing was a bit dry. I did eventually get into the book though. It was a quick and easy listen, if you just give it a little time.
Sloane and Ethan are married, though not happily. Sloane knows that Ethan is the only one for her, even though he cheated. So she decides that their marriage needs to resume on even standings in order to survive. In walks Brody, a guy who Sloane knew in school and who happens to be a billionaire app developer. Brody's wife ends up dead, and Ethan is the lead investigator on the case. What comes out, in the end, threatens to unravel the lives of everyone involved.
There were a lot of twists and turns in this story and it kept me listening until the end. Thanks to NetGalley, OrangeSky Audio and the author for the chance to listen to this ARC!
