Thank you to #NetGalley and #OrangeSkyAudio for the read and review of #TheOne by #AudreyCole. This was a very interesting take on revenge. I really enjoyed the drama and the way things got all twisted up. Highly recommended.
@audreyjcole has written another great domestic/psychological thriller! In her latest book, The One, her characters are responding to and dealing with the aftermath of an affair. The twists and turns in the story will keep you guessing as to what will happen next. The ending was surprising as well. I recommend grabbing this one to read during your summer vacation!
Thank you @orangeskyaudio and @netgalley for allowing me to listen to the audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks NetGalley and Findaway Audio for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. First, I am going to let you know that I LOVE audio books and this one did not disappoint. The book is told from alternating voices of Sloane, the wife and ER doc, and Ethan, a Seattle homicide detective. The books starts out letting us know that Ethan cheated with his then partner and feels bad about it. Sloane doesn’t seem to be able to move on and this infidelity looms large in their marriage. Sloane is up for Doctor of the Year and Ethan can’t even be bothered to show up. Sloane runs into her old lab partner from college, Brody, a successful dating app developer. The app is called The One and promises to find you lasting love. Soon Sloane cheats on Ethan. Then, the unthinkable happens. Brody’s soon-to-be ex-wife shows up in the ER and Sloane is the attending doctor. She doesn’t live. Ethan finds out about the affair and now can’t trust Sloane. Can their marriage be saved? This would be a great beach read. I think it would also be good for book club. I can totally see this being made into a movie, its the same but different. You’ll like it.
3ish stars
For me, this one was just okay. The premise was intriguing, but I didn’t find that the story lived up to my hopes for it. The characters and writing weren’t bad, but it may just be that I wasn’t the best audience for this particular story.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for a copy for an honest review.
This is a twisted thriller. I really like domestic thrillers and this one did not disappoint.

I. Loved. This. Book.
Since lock down, I have basically earned a PhD in domestic thrillers, and I feel pretty confident in saying The One has all the requirements to make a good thriller - interesting characters, surprising plot, more surprises, are you kidding me ending, and, as an audio, a great narrator who moved the story along.
I listened to this one over 24 hours and I literally lost most of the night to Audrey J. Cole. She owes me nothing. I'm tired, and satisfied.
An ER doc wife, a police officer husband, a sleezy billionaire boyfriend.....and I never saw any of it coming.
This one releases June 27, 2023 and must be in your beach bag. Must. Go. Order it now.
Thank you NetGalley for this audio ARC. Dang, this was a wild ride and something I really enjoyed it. There were times where I knew what was coming, but it was still a great read. Definitely add this to your TBR pile.
Fast, enjoyable read
This is the story of an emergency room doctor who has an affair with an old college acquaintance to get back at her police detective spouse. Her spouse had cheated on her one time with his work partner. The guy she used is now very wealthy due to creating a dating app called The One. When things go south for the doc, they go really south.
This was a good read, A little reminded me of Gone Girl, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read without too many implausible situations.
I listened to the audio book, which was read slowly enough that I increased the speed to faster than my normal double speed.
4 1/2 stars rounded to 5.
Thank you to NetGalley, Audrey J. Cole and OrangeSky Audio for an audio arc of The One in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own (except any quotations) and may not be reproduced.
I had not heard of this book before I saw it available as an audio arc but it definitely sounded right up my alley for what I like to read.
Sloane & Ethan were very happily married until Ethan sleeps with his partner at Seattle Homicide. They attend therapy and Sloane is supposed to be working on forging Ethan, but she just can't let it go. Then she reconnects with Brody Carr, a college lab partner that she once had. He is now super hot & uber rich because he is the creator of the love matching app The One. Sloane sees this as her chance to even the score with Ethan. An eye for an eye. She thinks if she sleeps with Brody, it will make her feel better about Ethan cheating on her. Then Brody's famous model wife dies and Ethan becomes the lead investigator. Was it an accidental death? Did Brody kill his wife? Did Sloane (as the ER physician who attended to Brody's wife when she was brought in) play in part in her death?
Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me. Judging by reviews, it looks like others enjoyed it, however, it was just a bit boring and unrealistic for me. I never felt the thrill or suspense. It was pretty predictable. All of the characters were completely unlikeable. There's no one you want to root on. They all could have died and I wouldn't have cared one bit. This book is extremely forgettable. I wouldn't give it a shot unless you've run out things to read and you've gotten bored.
With that said, I've read worse books this year, so I'm giving a generous 2 Stars.
DNF 32%. I'm pretty sure this book was classified as a thriller. There was nothing thrilling about this book. The 32% I got through was so boring and Sloan and Ethan seem to have a weird passive aggressive psychological warfare approach to their marriage that I don't understand. Also, the author felt the need to mention that Brody is a billionaire app-developer a ridiculous amount of times. After the 7th time in a row of being told Brody is a billionaire, app-developer, and/or billionaire app-developer I was like okay I get it does he have any other characteristics? This book was boring and if it gets more exciting then I will never find out because by 32% if you still cannot discern what the book is about, then it's time to put down that book. The narrator seemed good enough. It's hard to comment on the narrator given how much I disliked the story.
This book was ok. I found the female narrator's voice extremely grating so had a hard time paying close attention. I skipped around a lot; it just wasn't good enough for me to want to listen to all of it.
This was such a fun thrilling ride. What a conniving bunch of characters that you love to hate. This was such a good domestic suspense. I enjoyed it and couldn't stop until I knew the outcome. This book shows you the dangers of settling the score.
I got so consumed in the story, the lies, the secrets, the murder, I honestly couldn't stop listening. It was really well done. The twist and turns make you keep reading.
The characters were so flawed and unreliable, which I love. The plot was great and chaotic. Some predictable moments, but honestly it's so suspenseful all along. The turnout I was not expecting.
If you're looking for a fast paced, easy to read thriller filled with secrets, lies add this to your summer TBR !

Cole has quickly become one of my go to authors! This is my fourth book by here.
🏝️
Sloan is an ER doctor and her husband Ethan is a homicide detective. She is devastated when she finds out he had an affair with his partner. She wants to make their marriage work, but is also contemplating sleeping with someone from her past.
🏝️
Brody is the man from her past and when he invites her on a getaway she accepts. Will she give into temptation or try to make her marriage work. There is a lot of mistrust on both their parts.
🏝️
Ethan gets a case which involves the suspicious death of Brody’s wife! He must uncover the truth and hopes his wife is not involved!

This novel had my heart pounding DO IT, DON’T DO IT, WTH?

This novel is due out June 27, 2023. Thank you Orange Sky Audio, Suzy Approved Book Tours, Netgalley and author Audrey J. Cole for these advanced copies. Cole is an auto-but for me. I highly suggest this one. I had the chance to read and listen to this fast paced thriller.

Can any marriage survive an affair? Sloane’s police detective husband, Ethan, has slept with his partner, and now Sloane has a decision to make. Forgive him and move on? Perhaps there’s a third option. Sloane’s old college friend, Brody, is now a multi-millionaire thanks to his dating app, The One. What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and when Ethan finds out he’s been cheated on he’s worried for many reasons, not the least of which is the suspicious death of Brody’s wife. This is a great premise and for the most part it works, my only gripe is with Sloan for not kicking Ethan to the curb at the get go
3 stars
This is a mostly straightforward thriller that includes one surprise but will be, for many readers, a pretty predictable journey.
Sloan and Ethan should have divorced, but instead, they have chosen to make each other and themselves miserable. Ethan has had an affair by the time readers meet him, and while I agree that this is a big deal, Sloan will never let us forget it. Readers hear this information constantly. In return, Sloan decides to have an affair of her own but for a weirdly strategic purpose that requires a lot of assumptions about how Ethan will respond. To the surprise of only some of the characters in the book and not readers, things don't go well for the couple after all of this.
There is one twist here, but that won't totally make up for what feel like fairly flat characters participating in disappointing but mostly expected behaviors. This is an audiobook I'd recommend for a day filled with chores: one that will keep readers listening but will not require perfect and consistent attention to follow.
