This book is for anyone who feels like they haven't found their purpose and who is walking in circles and always wondering will they find it. This book is also for those who feel they have found their purpose and they are pursuing it, but I encourage you to read this book especially, because after reading it you will realize your purpose, might not be what you thought it was but something much more meaningful to be taught and understood. When we feel like there are so many things and people to compare to, and how we really focus on the wrong things, how we even try to do all the things, but sometimes our purpose might be in the "not doing" or "waiting" there is still purpose in that. I loved the deep dive into some of the hard questions we ask ourselves and how they were answered in this book. It was refreshing and timely. As one that questions often am I doing what God has called me to do right now, this book gives clarity on that very thing. A great book on perspective of purpose, setting your eyes on God and not man, and answering the call of servant hood.

Some really good thoughts and practical ideas in this book. But it was overly long and a bit repetitive. I did enjoy the fictional stories mixed in with the prose. That really reinforced the point in the chapters around it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Wow! This was fantastic! So timely; so needed in discipleship. Cut me to the heart at times, and yet very encouraging and reorienting me in the way I should go. We may use this with our interns - this was really fantastic. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more stuff by Kelly Needham.

Netgalley and Nelson Books provided me with a copy of Purposefooled in exchange for my review:

As Kelly Needham points out in Purposefooled, we've been fooled into seeking meaning in all the wrong places!

Many of us are exhausted from chasing extraordinary lives, but when we embrace the everyday and find meaning in the mundane, we feel trapped. Are we missing something?

Kelly Needham has been a keynote speaker, a backstage worker, and a mom. With both extraordinary and humdrum experiences--and struggling with disappointment along the way--Needham reveals the truth that changes everything: we weren't made to perform, but to know. The One who can infuse our lives with infinite meaning and purpose. In Purposefooled she explains:

It explains why we long for more, how modern technology affects our dreams, what we can learn from Bible stories about world-changing, and why we need to reclaim our imaginations from culture! Living a deeply meaningful life today instead of chasing the next big thing.

I give Purposefooled five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

We are all searching for purpose, but many of us are looking in all the wrong places. This book is a reminder that our purpose is only found in God. The chapters felt repetitive at times, but the message is so important that it didn’t bother me too much.

Title: Purposefooled: Why Chasing Your Dreams, Finding Your Calling, and Reaching for Greatness Will Never Be Enough
Author: Kelly Needham
Rating: 5/5

Thank you @netgalley and Thomas Nelson for my #gifted eARC of Purposefooled: Why Chasing Your Dreams, Finding Your Calling, and Reaching for Greatness Will Never Be Enough.

This is easily one of my favorite books of 2023 so far. I wish college-age Emily could’ve read this one. 😅 Throughout the book, Kelly shares that our purpose is not found in verbs but in a single noun, a Person—God. Our purpose isn’t in what we are doing but in who we are with—God! If you’ve ever wondered what your purpose is or felt weary doing and chasing after achievement (even ministry!,) this is a book for you.

I really loved how Kelly shared about how she came to the truth about her purpose but initially struggled with seemingly losing more or gaining less (human) visibility in some ways. I feel like I’ve gone through similar things in the past years, and I just felt so encouraged and convicted by Kelly’s writing and sharing. God sees. Our purpose is His glory-this is great news!

This was a freeing, biblical, and wise book on such an important topic.

Highly recommend!

This is the best book I’ve read all year. It was exactly what I needed at the time and I honestly think we all need to be reminded that the things we do, the goals we achieve (or don’t), the big achievements and the mundane tasks - all will eave us unsatisfied, burnt out or overwhelmed if we’re looking for them to give us our purpose and meaning. I’ve never had someone be so clear and counterculture about the way our calling and purpose are not tasks, they aren’t the dreams we have about what we want to do. Instead, we are called to a Person and this book beautifully brings that to life.

Highlights:
⭐️ Short chapters that are so readable and relatable
⭐️ Practical advice for someone looking to know God and get out of the “rat race”
⭐️ Constant repetition and reinforcement of these valuable points that really help to cement what doesn’t come easy for a doer like me

I can’t endorse this book enough. I was highlighting entire paragraphs and telling everyone I knew to buy it from chapter 1 ❤️

I enjoy Kelly's writing and this book is no exception. I love her heart for Jesus and her heart for us to not chase after the wrong things. This would make a great book club book. Lots of opportunities to discuss!
