I love a good domestic suspense. This was a great page turner! It was your typical popcorn thriller but that made it so engaging.

Claire and her younger sister Holly are grieving over the death of their mother to cancer. Holly realises she needs to move on and decides to travel and secures a summer job at Martha’s Vineyard. Claire resents her leaving and starts drinking heavily, working in a bar and drifting along. She becomes alarmed when she doesn’t hear from Holly for quite a few days, especially when she receives a text supposedly from her but from the content she knows that Holly didn’t sent it. The police at Martha’s Vineyard don’t appearing to be taking her disappearance seriously so Claire decides that she must fly out and try to find Holly. Whilst trying to find clues about Holly’s disappearance she is informed that another girl, Natalie, had gone missing five years earlier. Claire meets up with her sister, Gina, hoping that they can both discover the truth. The story is told in the past and present by Claire and Holly. This was a very enjoyable read that kept me guessing until the end.

I really enjoyed this book. When I first started The Summer Girl, it read a bit like a YA novel but soon started to get a little darker. I looked forward to picking it up, and it was a mystery tha t had me changing my mind a lot as to the outcome. I really liked the setting of Martha’s Vineyard, the summer playground of the rich.

If you’re the kind of reader who binges the book in one session, look no further than “The Summer Girl.”

Jenny Blackhurst creates an enthralling story about two sisters and the choices they make after the death of their mother. When one sister disappears, the other races to Martha’s Vineyard to find her. The book is told from two POVS in two timelines and will leave the reader guessing.

Thank you NetGalley and Canelo Suspense for this gifting me this copy. I enjoyed it and will be looking forward to reading more of Jenny Blackhurst’s books soon.

Thank you Netgalley , author Jenny Blackhurst & Canelo Publications for the ARC.

This is a fast paced crime thriller / domestic thriller. A Brit woman searching for her missing sister who was at Martha’s Vineyard, trying to place her last steps and fearing the worst keeps the reader engaged to find out with her what went wrong. Alternating chapter from the missing sister Holly’s perspective adds up to give the whole story that transpired.
It’s your typical popcorn thriller , that’s good for quick read and if you read this genre often , you’ll have the whole reveal figured out half way through the book . But if you are new to thriller genre, this is will be quick & easily entertaining read.

It’s a 3.25/5 ⭐️read for me .

A great book with twists and turns that I read in one sitting. Just when you think you trust someone….wrong. Jenny Blackhurst does a great job keeping you guessing and making you doubt who you should trust. This book is relatable and sad. It shows how in life we sometimes make a wrong decision that changes the path of our lives and sometimes not for the good. I definitely recommend this book!

I've read and enjoyed a few of this author's novels before but I think this one might be my new favourite! It follows Claire who realises she hasn't heard from her sister Holly for a few days and as Holly is overseas in America she begins to worry that something might have happened. Claire goes over to Martha's Vineyard to where Holly was staying but she can't find her sister. She tries to report her missing to the police but they're not very helpful, so she starts searching for Holly herself. The community it very tight knit and whilst some people show kindness to Holly there is a real sense that secrets and being kept and not everyone is as they seem. I found this book to be such a page turner, it was genuinely hard to put down. I thought I knew what had happened to Holly but the reveal when it comes was still a shock to me. I definitely recommend this one!

This is my first book by Jenny Blackhurst and I’m a fan! The book starts with Claire traveling all the way from UK to US, into the paradise called Martha’s Vineyard since her sister, Holly, hasn’t been responding to her or her cousins call for a few days until they got a really random text from Holly that definitely couldn’t have been written by Holly. Everyone at Martha’s Vineyard seems so welcoming and helpful but no one has any idea where Holly is, other than information that Holly was working for a really creepy playboy Carl who was always hitting on Holly and had a jealous wife, she was dating one of the Slayton boys who practically had the reputation of getting away with anything. The more time Claire spent at the island the more she falls in love with the island but she cannot rest till she finds her little sister. And thus begins her search.
I finished this book in one sitting. I practically devoured it and couldn’t stop reading till the very end. The book is told in multiple POVs both past and present till the mystery is solved. There were twists and reveals till the very last page. All the loose ends were tied up very well.
Definitely going to start reading more book by Jenny Blackhurst.
Thanks to Netgalley and Canelo publishing for an arc of this book for my honest opinion!

I thoroughly enjoyed THE SUMMER GIRL. Written from the perspective of a sister desperately trying to find her lost sister, the tense emotion of desperation to find her alive carries the novel forward in a marvellously compelling way! I was gripped and the writer has such a brilliant way with words, I couldn't put the novel down.
