Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book early! I really enjoyed it. I thought the writing was very well done, and the story kept me interested. I believe my students/patrons would also love this book and will be acquiring it for the library!

I was so lost! I couldn't keep any of the characters not named Cormac straight. And yet I kept reading, and I actually liked reading, though I really wish I knew what the heck happened. This one felt dreamy, a little scattered, and I couldn't tell if it was deliberate or my (lack of?) comprehension of the plot.

We Were Young is the story of Cormac, a thirty-something photographer who finds himself at a stage of life where most of his friends have moved on to start families and settle down. Cormac, however, is still dating younger women and lecturing n Dublin. We Were Young weaves in Cormac's past familial and relational strife with his current day-to-day, his brother, his friends, his romances.

This book has the feel of a Sally Rooney novel but this time, from the perspective of a thirty-something man instead of a twenty-something woman, which I enjoyed. The writing is beautiful and contemplative and the character exploration is intriguing.

It might've been a case of bad timing, but I just had trouble getting into this one. Maybe if I'd read it at a different time, I'd have been more in the mood for it, but it just felt too slow and meandering for me right now. I think the writing is nice, and there's promise there, it just might not be my thing.

This was a good book and it was entertaining. I liked the writing style and the storyline. It was a book that was written beautifully. I think we all know a Cormac in a round about way so we are all interested in his story.
I just reviewed We Were Young by Niamh Campbell. #WeWereYoung #NetGalley

I was unable to finish this book and thus will be posting a full review. I found the dialog to be incomprehensible. Perhaps I am a bit daft but I read over 200 books a year so it stands to reason that I have some reading comprehension. I also have a Masters in English Literature so, again, I think I am able to comprehend at least at an ordinary level. And yet I could not understand any of the action, story or dialog in this book. Thank you for your consideration and the opportunity.

This book had the potential to be on the same level as a Sally Rooney book, but unfortunately fell flat for me. The lack of quotation marks combined with very large chapters made it difficult to read. Rooney is able to get away with her lack of quotation marks due to the stellar nature of her books and this should not be done by just any author. I found the character infuriating and a bit boring. It might just be due to my age and current place in my life, but this book just wasn't for me.

This book is a lot like Cormac - sorta directionless.

While the book shares Cormac’s story, it’s hard to figure out what his end goal is and what he wants from life other than to just fuck around. There is no finding out here.

Some of the language was wonderfully written. However for a character driven story it is exceptionally hard to connect with the main character.

The lack of quotation marks and spacing also made it difficult to find the flow of the story.
